Man.. eff Holliday.. This is baseball not football.

And eff this ump... How about giving Vogie the same strike zone you gave Carp against Belt... Seriouslly ****ed up.

So I finally got a look at that slide - very dubious. I thought the rule (is it a rule or a guideline?) was that it had to be a reasonable attempt at sliding into the bag. He almost cleared the base and would have sailed into the outfield grass if not for Scutaro.
Got to love the Cards' tweet about it - "tremendous breakup slide".

Yeah. The most annoying thing is that the Cardinal loving Joe Buck didn't even mention the fact the slide started pretty much at the back and when he made contact there is no way for Holliday to reach back and grab the base. Not ONE mention... But when Blanco was tagged out at first on the what would be double play they went on and on and on about it ad nauseum.

Also would like to mention that I'm really ****ing sick of every announcer doing the national televised games that act so ****ing surprised when Sandoval gets a walk or doesn't swing at a close pitch. His career OBP is exactly 50 points higher then his average and has never even sniffed 100 K's in a season. Yes he is a free swinger but that's what makes him dangerous. He can hit just about every pitch with power. He can hit any curveball in the game for power and turn on any fastball regardless of where in the zone it is. He has tremendous power to all fields and for someone who swings as hard he does he makes insane amounts of contact. The triple off Verlander comes to mind... A non-hanger down in the zone driven down the line off one of the best pitchers in the game.

New rule says you cant go at the back portion of the bag,how they define that, i have no idea. It was a hard playoff baseball play.

So, World Series is Detroit vs. ?? (SF maybe?)

I'm hoping it's the Giants mainly because I am not a fan of the Cards at all. Plus I think the Giants are a better team. I know most people in Detroit want a rematch of the 2006 World Series though.

In other news I can't honestly watch ESPN and their Yankee love fest right now. You know the Tigers couldn't possibly be the better team, it's just the Yankee's are having an off-series. That's driving me nuts. Or the comments that Verlander or Scherzer isn't as good as Sabathia, ya because that makes sense. I agree the Yankee's are a good team but you don't go down 3-0 in a series and not have some suck-a-tude going on.

Well once your beyond the bag you aren't in the baseline anymore, as there is no base in left field. Holliday landed ON the bag to start his rollblock/slide what ever you want to call it. That is LATE and it should be CALLED by the umpires as that is the RULE. But it wasn't, so that's a big fail on blues part.

Video from JULY.

First of all, I didn't like the slide.

Was the slide legal? It was on the edge, but apparently within the rules of the game. A. The Unpires had no problem with it and did not call interference. B. Giant players said little or nothing to the umpire about it. C. And perhaps the most important - MLB offices had no problem with it.

I fully expect Holliday to get drilled - NEXT year. Unless he comes up late in a blowout. Interestingly, Cain hit a Cardinal batter with the second pitch of the game tonight. On the knee though, and it looked to be a slider. Not exactly payback material.

Game in a freaking rain delay right now. Cards up 3-1.

What are the prospects of either game getting underway anytime soon? All of the radio feeds have been dropped.

Not very likely in Detroit, its suppose to rain all night and all day tomorrow.

This rain is why I hate the MLB playoffs happening in October. Baseball is primarily a summer, sunshine, outdoor game... Why must it be played in miserable rainy October?

It's nice here. :D

Only rained once so far this month, for about 15 minutes.

Yeah, it's been in the 90s all week here too but the majority of MLB teams are not in the Southwest. The Great Lakes area, the East Coast, etc... miserable this time of year. Every year. This always happens.

The playoffs should start in September. I don't understand why a summer game has to end with a "Fall Classic."

Well the weather in most lf those places at the start of the season is a bit damp too. I guess spring training is in FL and AZ for a reason. No one here is going to advocate a shorter season are they?

A September world Series would mean starting the season with frost on the ground in some cities, which is ludicrous. Playing LESS than 162 games is also never going to happen.

Not sure "why cant the Series be in Spetember?" is even possible to fathom for longer than a moment.

I'll never understand why Detroit didn't build a covered or retractable roof stadium. I remembers few years ago I went to opening day and watched baseball while it was snowing.

Probably because of the baseball tradition in Detroit. Fans there probably prefer real grass, traditional stadium, etc.

Can you get a tofu burger at the Park? Probably not.

Pending a collapse equivalent to the Denver at San Diego Monday Night Football fail by SD, the World Series looks like DET vs. STL/SF. It's 6-0, Detroit in the Bottom of the 4th as of this post.

Tonight's pitching battle in St. Louis is Wainwright (STL) vs. Lincecum (SF).

It's pretty damn unlucky to lose your captain at this stage of the postseason but NY been completely outplayed and would have been either way. The pitching staff have been unbelievable; remember seeing the ERA stat for Detroit during the first three games and IIRC it was stupidly low.

I think they'll win it all personally.

I will. Start in April, end in August.

August is the most boring month for sports in the whole year. Spice it up with the Division races.

Same could be said for Minneapolis.

Does the Orange Juice centre in St Petersburg have real or fake grass?

Fake, and it looks ridiculous to say the least. There are these horrid dark patches all over the place.

Minneapolis are even worse for the fact that they had a covered stadium which needed replacing, and replaced it with an uncovered one.
