I actually feel bad for the Astros. There are quite a few teams I can't stand, like that other team from Texas, but the Astros just come across as a pretty good bunch of guys. I think in a few years once they get a bit more experienced and get used to the AL, they'll be competitive.

And Andy Dirks, he impressed me last year and is really impressing me this year. I was happy for him last night knocking out his first career grand slam last night. Also he almost got the cycle in too, which is pretty cool.

Patrick Corbin goes for 7-0 record tonight. Should be interesting.

Edit: Paul Goldschmidt for Gold Glove 2013. Calling it now.

Edit 2: 4-hit shutout. :)

Zito sucked today against the Blue Jays but our offense still got 6 runs across which seems to have become a nightly a thing for them now.

But my god is Scutaro on fire... 9 multi hit games in the last 10, 2 of them being 3 hit games. He is on a 15 game hit streak where he is hitting almost .500 and even his outs are line drives to the outfielders.

Sandoval has hit a HR each in his last 3 games...

Belt has 2 in his last 2... and has been tearing it up. The more this guy plays the better he keeps getting. Same can be said for Crawford who slowed down a little with the HR hitting but still has already surpassed what he did last year in over 400AB's but also doing it with a .340-.350 OBP and with that D.. My god has he been valuable.

Giants brought up Brett Pill and sent down Peg... Not really sure where he plugs in other then a RH power bat off the bench.

Bullpen has been great per usual.. If our starting pitching can get a little streak going, oh my god.

Stuck on 10 wins, and now at 10-30. We lost 6-2 at Detroit last night. Up next is a day game today to conclude this series. Thursday will be a day off for the Astros before we have an Interleague series at Pittsburgh. Or for the Astros, an NL Central family reunion.

Here's a stat I read on MLB Network- this 6-game losing streak for the Astros is the third 6-game losing streak of the season for the Astros. Futility at its most brutal, folks! I might as well follow the Dynamo and Texans at this point.

Astros lose the series but avoid getting swept. We won 7-5 in Detroit today. It is the 11th win for the Astros so far this season.

Kennedy started out great today and then forgot how to pitch for an inning. Not sure what his problem is. And the whole team only made 8 errors all season so far and have now committed 4 in this series with Atlanta alone.

Currently leading though 5-3 in the 8th. Goldschmidt has made 3 or 4 fantastic grabs at first base today. Again, if he keeps this up he's Gold Glove material for sure this year.

Edit: Win.

My Astros will be in Pittsburgh Friday for a weekend series. Figured since about 25% of the season is complete, that I take this time for an assessment.

The Houston Astros Baseball Club is currently 11-30 for the 2013 season. They won 8-2 on Opening Night against the rival Texas Rangers. Life in the AL West (let alone the AL in general) has not been kind at all to the Astros. Then too, who said the Astros could contend? Many people see the Astros as contenders again within at least two years, maybe three. Right now, they are the butt of others' jokes. Even yesterday on ESPN's "Around the Horn," Tim Cowlishaw was asked what his Face Time would be about if he won, and he noted Houston Astros. He instantly lost (expect nothing less from "Always Hate Houston" ESPN/ABC). The Astros stink and have stunk ever since their consistent downward spiral. It is as if the Astros are falling in a black hole with almost no hope of breaking their fall anytime soon- losing game after game, series after series. It basically makes it hard for such a fan to support a team going in the wrong direction. The Astros have done well scoring wins against divisional foes such as Seattle and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. And of course, wins against teams like the Rangers, the Yankees, the Indians, and a recent win at the Tigers all help the Astros sleep a little better at night.

On top of this, there is still the issue of people not being able to see their Astros on TV because of the whole CSN Houston network distribution issues. Even with a floundering team, people still love their team and want to see them on TV. I am not terribly concerned though I do miss seeing them on TV and being able to see them on TV since FOX Sports Houston was dissolved. I think the Astros will somehow avoid 100+ losses. However, if they can actually do that this season really depends on a lot of factors.

I may do another lighthearted kind of post, but I figured to use this time to assess my team at this point. Feel free to offer your assessment if you please as most teams will have completed 25% of the 2013 season.

Not much change in Reds country since I last posted. We are on a 5 game win streak, but they've played the Brew Crew and Fish. We are currently 8 games over .500, but we've had a very easy schedule so far. Usually we beat up on the bad teams and are lucky to take a game in a series against anyone decent. Pitching has been pretty strong, and the defense has been fantastic. But when it comes to hitting, it's been hide and seek. At least I can say we have the 2 leading players in the MLB when it comes to OBP, in Choo and Votto. If only the rest of the team could consistently get on base, that would be helpful. At least we've finally started to win some games on the road.

So I really don't know what to expect for the remainder of the season. If we can start beating teams with good records, I'll feel much better.

Edit: Sitting 2 1/2 games back, it also doesn't help our cause that the Cardinals won't lose a damn game.

About 25% of the 2013 season is complete. Keep pressing on in making any kind of playoff push!

Mets may have one bright spot and that's Matt Harvey. I would prefer if he just stays healthy and finishes at 16-5.

The Astros will take on the Pirates in Pittsburgh later tonight. But before then, we welcomed a new president. Reid Ryan is the new president of the Astros. And yes- Ryan as in Nolan Ryan's son.

Enjoy the weekend series and good luck to all of your teams.

DAMN IT TO M:censored:F:censored:ING HELL!!! Astros were tied 4-4 as the Pirates popped up the ball. What should have been extra innings forced ends up with one Astro trying to catch the ball, all for another one to run into the damn guy, have the ball pop out of his mitt, and the Pirates won 5-4. Bull-f:censored:ing-s:censored:!!! Astros were up 4-2 at one point. I was saying, "you bloody idiot!" Way to f:censored: up, Astros. DAMN IT!!!!!

The big thing the Astros need... $$$ I think their payroll is 21 mil this year. According to ESPN.com... They need a lot more money to be competitive...

My Braves kicked the Dodgers tail tonight! Dodgers' one of the few teams I actually despise, so I almost wish I had work tomorrow to talk trash to the Dodger fans at work! :P

The Phillies, of all people, knocked off the hottest team in baseball right now. Good effort by Cliff Lee, two runs over seven innings. He didn't get the win he deserved (again) because of a blown save by the bullpen (again).

Today it's Bronson Arroyo against the unlikely ace of the Phils staff, Kyle Kendrick.

My Houston Astros picked up a nice win in Pittsburgh, as we won 4-2 in 11 innings at the Pittsburgh Pirates. Astros had to *man up* to pull out the extra innings win. I wonder how tomorrow's Rubber Game will go. Hopefully, the Astros can go back-to-back in winning. Key word: hopefully...

Nice job by the 'Stros. 👍 The Reds are looking to get some separation from the Pirates. Now if the Astros could beat around the Cards when they get around to playing them, I'd be very happy. :dopey:

I'm in a third world country. People have pneumonia all around me.

Also, nobody here has any courtesy or etiquette. Everyone stands up and walks through the aisles while the pitcher is on the mound. Wtf.

People here tend to be the same at the NBA games. Right in middle of plays, they don't see anything wrong with making people stand up from their seats while blocking their views. :dunce: I always wait by the entrance corridor & watched the game there until free throws or time outs, but very few people do that.

Why not, I guess. People tend to drive around with the same level of courtesy.

Only one run was scored. Sadly, by the Pirates. Our latest fail was a 1-0 victory for Pittsburgh. Don't you just love (as in f:censored:ing hate) when your favorite team just seems hopeless?

Good job to everybody else who didn't fail unlike my content-with-losing Astros.

I yelled at a douche guy in Spanglish for not waiting five seconds before blocking my view of a developing play. Idiots. That's why no one wants to go to games.

Braves came back from behind to beat the Dodgers in all three games. I can not wait to see my Dodger fan friends at work tomorrow. :D

Its not because your team doesn't win at all is it?

Hope you enjoyed our loss.

It was the highlight of his season, now he's ready for 2014.

It was cool watching the Fox Sports postgame show. They do a TON of takes. Jeff Conine looked hung-over as hell and wasn't feeling it. Kept doing facepalms and rubbing his eyes.

The Clevelander is pretty cool though. The seats in there are like thrones. Good for two flaca people or one morbidly obese person. Also, this:
