Brutal error from Thole in the 9th. God, the Jays go on a huge winning streak and then stink it up again.

I am known for typing errors, but I don't think there was baseball back in 1193. America- let alone Major League Baseball still wasn't even founded then! I know you meant 1993. :)

Good luck to all your teams with the new series. Among others, my Astros will try and entertain the Tampa Bay Rays here in Houston for a 4-Game set.

Boston should be in the WS this year. If not, I would be looking at the Cardinals. The Astros are actually doing good? :lol: I haven't heard that in a long time.

Okay so if Boston makes the World Series, St. Louis DEFINITELY will not make the World Series based upon your post. Didn't know the Cardinals were in the AL. The Astros aren't doing good, the team is terrible, just they managed to win a few games recently.

Well, unlike what a lot of people think, the Astros aren't an Expansion team, so we're not expected to lose every game. They do seem to be getting better even if nothing much is expected from us. They're still my team even if we were 0-82 on the season up to this point.

Just about every team has played half of a season so far. So how are teams doing so far heading into Monday's matches? Here is a standings update (source: Yahoo! Sports):

Set me straight (or "fix") anything that may be incorrect. Remember- I am only human, and I am not perfect.

NL WEST: Arizona (42-39), COL (41-42), SD (40-42), SF (39-42), LAD (38-43)

--- Other Observations... ---

...Longest Winning Streak: Pittsburgh (9 straight wins)
...Longest Losing Streak: New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox (5 straight losses each)

CURRENT TEN-GAME STRETCH:
...Best Record: Pittsburgh (9-1 last ten games)
...Worst Record: San Francisco (2-8 last ten games)

And there you have it.

If you want to get some discussion going, here's a question for you all to debate on. These are the current last-place teams in each division:

* Toronto (40-41)
* Chicago White Sox (32-47)
* Houston (30-52)
* Miami (29-51)
* Milwaukee (32-48)
* Los Angeles Dodgers (38-43)

Of these current last-place teams in each division, which team do you think will make the biggest turnaround? By turnaround I mean anything from winning a Wild Card spot in the playoffs to winning the World Series. So who do you think will make the biggest turnaround of these last-place teams?

Toronto and Los Angeles have the best shots to make the playoffs out of those 6. Next (if I had to choose another team) would be the White Sox. Its extremely doubtful though that any others aside from the Jays and Dodgers will even finish within 20 games of their division leaders.

Cards are known to finish the season strong. :D

They barely escaped falling apart last season, making the second wild card by only one game.

The way things are right now, if your answer is anything other than the Dodgers then :lol:

Pittsburgh will fall apart after the All-Star break. I'd say either the Braves or Washington will end up making the World Series.

I'm confused. Is there a decent baseball team in DC? :confused:

Pittsburgh did OK last year (I'd give them a B), and they are doing even better this year. Is it enough for the WS? I guess we will see.

I wouldn't give a sub .500 team a B rating. They are doing better than last year though even at this time, sitting a good 9 games up in the win column.

About as decent (if not more so) than the two in Los Angeles.

They seem pretty good to me and watch a good chunk of their games. Atlanta is just really good, which is why they are so many games ahead, but there's still half the season to play and anything can happen. Things always dramatically change after the All-Star break.

The Dodgers chances of making the playoffs > the Nationals chances of making the playoffs. The Dodgers are in last place, they are closer to winning their division than the 2nd Place Nationals are to the second wildcard.

Of course things can change and turn around, but as far as this season has gone I do not see any indication that the Nationals are the serious playoff contenders that we all thought they'd be when we looked at their roster in March.

From what I've seen they are a team that could easily be a contender, but it's still too early to tell. I'm still saying they make a run for it and I would love to see a Tigers v. Nationals World Series, although I don't think the Tigers would win.

The Nationals have a good pitcher (Steven Strasburg, right?), but that's about it.

You're leaving out Jordan Zimmermann and Gio Gonzalez for pitching and Bryce Harper, Ryan Zimmerman, and Adam LaRoche for out in the field. The team doesn't have a ton of guys who guy all out like a Miguel Cabrera, but they are still pretty good.

Let me answer my own discussion question from earlier.

You know, when I offered the discussion about what current last-place team could have the biggest turnaround, and when our Villain suggested the Dodgers, I'm actually going to agree with him. And if the Dodgers are to stand a chance at reversing their misfortunes, Puig is going to be that catalyst. How long he can sustain his form through this season will be the real factor. Between Toronto and the Chicago White Sox to make the biggest turnaround among AL teams, I'm going with Toronto. You don't just sign a bunch of talent just for the team to lay an egg and not make much noise with that talent. So you could say I also agree with Blitz24 on the notion of both Toronto and Los Angeles Dodgers making the biggest turnarounds. And as an Astros fan, I sincerely doubt we're going to make up all the games back and get an AL Wild Card berth. The Astros are basically playing against the Miami Marlins to avoid having the worst record in baseball for the third successive season. I doubt Miami and Milwaukee will make leaps-and-bounds improvements to outshine the other current last place teams.

Those are just my ideas.

Must be my Braves perspective. They almost caught us. Then beat us in the one game Wild Card game, then weren't they beaten by the eventual World Champ?

🤬 🤬 🤬

Fire all the pitchers. 🤬 16 blown saves. SIXTEEN.

Absolutely disgusting. Such a disgrace.

I can sympathize with teams that blow saves. I've had to endure Jose Valverde.

This time it wasn't Bell. Former Mets, unite and bring misfortune to your new employers! :lol:

Shush, you only like winning teams.
Touche'. While I despise fair weather fans in the NBA, when it comes to baseball, I am a casual fan with a fair weather tendency. I have liked the Cardinals since the 80's though, and Braves since very early 90's. While growing up in Japan, red STL hat was my first, and only MLB hat I ever owned over there.

Other teams:

Rangers - Yu Darvish for obvious one reason.

Red Sox - I've always liked their weird name, Babe Ruth connection, and when they got Daisuke, it was a lock. It was a rough time for Daisuke though. :lol:

Seattle - I-CHI-RO! Then I dropped them when they started sucking, although my buddy tells me that there is a new Japanese pitcher I think by the name of Iwakuni. I might like them again in the future. :dopey:

Hisashi Iwakuma. He's doing well so far.

I hope he keeps doing well. 👍 Has their front office improved though? When Ichiro was there, it was like they gave up on putting a competitive team on the field. Yeah, you could label me a fair weather fan, but they put together some really lame roster.
