The Astros led 1-0 heading into the Bottom of the 9th... only to fail 2-1. Yeah, we f:censored:ed up and ended up losing. That's baseball. Final series of the season for both the Astros and Mets will be a Rubber Game. So the Astros will either finish the 2014 season with either 71 wins or 70 wins depending on who wins tomorrow afternoon. I'm hoping for 71 to even out the win turnaround from 2013 (51 wins in 2013- a 20-win turnaround if the Astros win tomorrow).

Congrats to all who won on Saturday; better luck next time to all who failed on Saturday.

If the Mets win they will finish with 79 wins and most likely a lock on 2nd place for the division. It would be a better finish than anticipated.

The AL Central is in the Tiger's hands. If they win tonight, the Tigers will win the AL Central regardless of what the KC Royals do.

Jordan Zimmerman just gave the Washington Nationals a No-Hitter with his victory today. The Nationals' 96th win of the season came with a 1-0 victory over the Miami Marlins (along with Zimmerman's no-no). I'll edit my post in a few minutes to update the Tiger's score.

EDIT: AL Central Champs! The Tigers clinch the AL Central with a 3-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins. This is the fourth consecutive year that the Tigers are the AL Central champs.

Mets get their best record since 2010. Duda smacks his 30th HR as the Mets win the final series of the year 8-3 vs. Houston and finish 2nd place in the NL East following Washington's win over Miami.

The Tigers have clinched the AL Central for the 4th straight year. Kinsler has 2 of the 3 RBI's, with JD Martinez getting the 3rd RBI. David Price gets his 15th win of the season and Joe Nathan, despite some blown saves earlier in the season, pitched one heck of a 9th inning and gets his 35th save.

Best of luck to all teams in the Post-Season, though I'll be rooting for the Tigers all the way, be it the world series or up until they are eliminated. October Baseball, here we come!!!

Thanks for the update, Blitz24. So it looks like the Astros will finish the 2014 season 70-92 after this pimp-slapping they had to take at Citi Field today. I really hope the Astros can build upon this leaps-and-bounds improvement of a season moving forward.

Congratulations to all other winners from today and tonight.

Derek Jeter's last ever at bat was an RBI base hit. His last game ever was a Yankees win. In Chicago Paul Konerko's last game was a White Sox loss. Today, we bid farewell to two greats in the game. I wish the best of luck to both men in their future endeavors.

Season ended in spectacular fashion.....losing a one run game.

Better hopes for next season. The front office has their work cut out for them.

Rough year overall for the Redlegs. Cueto getting his 20th win (first for a Reds pitcher since 1988...I was 1 year old when that last happened ) on the final day of the season today was one of the few bright spots.

In just about any other year, Cueto would have been the favorite for the Cy Young (with Wainwright a close 2nd), but Kershaw decided to put up Megatron-like numbers this season. Reminds me of Mark Martin having what should have been a title in 1998, only to have Gordo absolutely b*tchslap the entire field that year.

Meanwhile, the only other hardware I see a Red MAYBE getting is Hamilton for NL Rookie of the Year. But Blitz's Mets' deGrom may have something to say about that. It was a pretty lackluster year for NL rookies. Hamilton's got speed and can field like nobody's business. He struggled at first, then caught fire for a bit, getting his average up to about .290, before coming back down to earth.

As for Gold Gloves, I could again maybe see Hamilton getting one, and possibly Phillips just because he's Phillips. I won't complain if neither gets one though.

Overall injuries, offensive woes, and a cruddy bullpen aside from Chapman (and Broxton for a while) did this year's team in. I don't know what Jocketty's got planned for next season, but I hope we'll be able to compete.

I can't see Hamilton getting it over deGrom. Not after the past month and certainly not after the final two weeks of the year where deGrom had 23 Ks in 2 starts.

Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros is the American League batting champion this year with a .341 batting average. As for AL ROTY candidates, I think Jose Abreu will be the AL Rookie of the Year. In regards to MVP, I think Trout will be the AL MVP and the NL might see Kershaw win both the Cy Young and MVP.

Also, I just realized that today's win was the 90th for the Tigers this year. That certainly isn't a bad way for Brad Ausmus to end his first regular season ever as a manager for a MLB team.

That's all. With no games scheduled today, you're free to assess your team after this past regular season or offer your thoughts on who'll win the World Series this season. Set me straight on anything I may have screwed up in this post.

The Wild Card games will begin. Let me share some musings before these games start.

This is a one-game, Sudden Death situation where a clunker of a game will make your season last all of... one day. If your team saves their worst performance for last, if your bullpen blows a lead, or if you just unfortunately lose in walk-off fashion to the home team... your season is over. The only chance of your postseason continuing depends on putting in your best effort all in one game. A baseball game can be so tough to predict. The stronger team may get beaten bad by a more inferior team. A weaker team can basically concede to the stronger team. Remember- ONE game. You win that single game, your postseason continues. You lose that single game, and you will be vacationing.

Having said all of this, all four teams will need to put forth their best performance in one game to continue their postseason. At least when you advance to the next round, you know you can lose a game or two and still have your season intact. Two teams will have their respective postseason runs continue; two others will be over before they even start. AL Wild Card game winner gets the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the ALDS, and the NL Wild Card game winner gets Washington in the NLDS.

Good luck to all four teams trying to extend their postseason.

Only got to watch the game from the 10th inning...

Poor third base man, he barely missed the ball

Good game it was indeed (from where I started to watch, but an 8-9 with around 15 hits each team only means that it was one great game).

OK... you guys knew it was coming.

Which was a better game? The 9/30 Royals/A's wildcard game or Game 6 of the 2011 World Series?
Salvador Perez is hereby Mr. September, by the way

It's Madison Baumgarner (SF) vs. E. Volquez (PIT) at PNC Park in the NL Wild Card Game. One team will get Washington, the other will get bounced. Whose season will continue? We'll find out tonight!

Good luck to both teams.
