Just wrapped up...

The final home game of the 2014 season for the Houston Astros Baseball Club ends up being an 8-3 victory and a series win against the Seattle Mariners Baseball Club. We collected 14 hits and made no errors. It's win No. 69 for the Astros. After I saw my Texans lose, I learned the Astros were ahead 4-3 in the Bottom of the 7th or so. Glad my boys won again.

Up next... it's one last series against the Texas Rangers this season- a three-game set at the Texas Rangers. The Astros won the Silver Boot long ago, so this is basically a battle for Texas pride.

Congratulations to all other Sunday winners up to and beyond the time of this post.

deGrom may have made his last start of the year but over his past two starts he has 23 strikeouts. Since the All-Star Break his BAA is .193. That's LOWER than Kershaw. He's going to be ROTY in the NL barring a disaster.

Lone Star State pride was on the line- no playoffs, no AL West contention, no AL Wild Card competition... just two Texas teams going to nobody's postseason. The Rangers beat my Astros 4-3 in Arlington, Texas. So we failed after back-to-back wins in the previous series. The Rangers currently hold the worst record in baseball right now, but they've been ballin' as of late. We'll do it again tomorrow- Astros at Rangers.

Congratulations to Monday's other winners, including Arizona taking down Minnesota.

Well we actually managed to win a game, which means we can lose every game from here on out and still end up with less than 100 losses. Woo.

Tigers lost to the White Sox tonight and KC won. Tigers have a game up on the Royals in the AL Central as a result of the loss and Cleveland winning the make up of a previously suspended game.

Time to update the list of teams who are in the 2014 playoffs. Here it is:

AMERICAN LEAGUE: Who's In!
* Baltimore (AL East Champions)
* Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (AL West)

NATIONAL LEAGUE: Who's In!
* Washington (NL East Champions)
* St. Louis (playoff berth)
* Los Angeles Dodgers (playoff berth)

Five are in... five more to be determined. Who'll make the playoffs this season? There's still a long way to go. Good luck to all of your teams.

I don't know who will win the AL Central because it looks like it'll go either way. I have a feeling that both AL Wild Card spots won't be shored up until the last day of the season as well.

deGrom has been shut down for the year. Hopefully his accolades will not be trumped and he will win ROTY.

Makes sense to protect him since he is a huge asset to the Mets.
Mets have quite a few precious players. Harvey, Syndergaard, deGrom, Wright. I REALLY like their staff for 2015 if Syndergaard is as good as advertised.

The Tigers beat the White Sox 4-3 today. David Price had a 3-0 lead until he gave up 3 runs in the top of the 9th. But that didn't matter because White Sox pitcher Jake Petricka put 2 on in the bottom of the 9th (Ian Kinsler got on by a base hit and Torii Hunter was walked), and Miguel Cabrera made him pay with a base hit that sent home Ian Kinsler. The KC Royals also won today so the Tigers still hold a 1 game lead in the AL Central.

Raise the Jolly Roger! The Pirates are going back to the postseason again this year.

The Astros failed again at the Rangers. This time, we fell 2-1 at the Rangers on Tuesday night. Maybe the Astros figured they want to take a few extra losses just because they've claimed the Silver Boot (the Astros-Rangers series trophy), they have nothing else to play for, and just decide to fail. Whether or not the losing streak extends to three depends on what the Astros do in the series finale later tonight (since it is now Wednesday as of this post).

Elsewhere...

I guess it's time to update the "in" list. Updated (updates in italics):

AMERICAN LEAGUE: Who's In!
* Baltimore (AL East Champions)
* Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (AL West Champions)

NATIONAL LEAGUE: Who's In!
* Washington (NL East Champions)
* St. Louis (playoff berth)
* Pittsburgh (playoff berth)
* Los Angeles Dodgers (playoff berth)

Only ten can advance. Four more slots yet to be determined. Three more Division Champions to be determined.

Congratulations to all other winners from Tuesday, and special congratulations to those who clinched playoff berths.

Today, the Tigers put a clinic on the White Sox bullpen with a 6-1 victory. 5 of the runs were scored after the Sox pulled started Chris Sale. Sale also plunked Victor Martinez and stared him down which lead to the benches being cleared. Tigers started Justin Verlander went 8 innings today and only gave up 1 run. Joakim Soria had a 1-2-3 9th inning to close the game out. If the Mariners lose tonight, the Tigers will clinch a playoff spot.

With their loss tonight, the Houston Astros now have four successive seasons with 90 or more losses. We got swept at the Texas Rangers with a 5-1 loss tonight. Their final series of the 2014 season will be at the New York Mets starting on Friday. Astros are stuck on 69 wins but now have 90 losses. So the 2014 Astros can at best finish 72-90; and at worst, 69-93.

As I mentioned, our final series of the season will be a little GTP rivalry- my Astros at Blitz24's New York Mets. Only thing I can hope for is the Astros to at least finish with 70 or more wins. I do know this much- 69 wins (so far) is better than the 51-win total we garnered last season.

Congratulations to every other winner, and special congratulations to those who got postseason berths. Better luck next time to all who failed, and even better luck next season if you're eliminated from the postseason.

The Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins with a 4-2 victory today. This puts the magic number to win the AL Central at two. If KC loses tonight, it'll cut the magic number down to one game.

Kind of fitting that Jeter, the man they called "Mr. November" for clutch World Series performances, came through in the clutch to win the game in his last game ever at Yankee Stadium.

In AL Central news, the KC Royals won today which means that the Tigers still have a 2 game lead over KC and have to win 2 games to clinch the division.

Unless your team(s) is/are playing a four-game series, this is the final weekend and the final series of regular season baseball. One last chance to make a postseason push, or just one last weekend to see or follow your team before having to try again next season. Here's the updated "Who's In!" list for all whom are postseason bound:

AMERICAN LEAGUE: Who's In!
* Baltimore (AL East Champions)
* Detroit (playoff berth)
* Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (AL West Champions)

NATIONAL LEAGUE: Who's In!
* Washington (NL East Champions)
* Pittsburgh (playoff berth)
* St. Louis (playoff berth)
* Los Angeles Dodgers (NL West Champions)
* San Francisco (playoff berth)

I want to acknowledge Derek Jeter on a job well done. I saw the back-to-back jacks that Baltimore hit in the first inning. I only learned of Jeter's walk-off hit when I saw a Breaking News tidbit on ESPN's Bottom Line. All congratulations to Jeter on a great career for one of the most storied franchises in all of Major League Baseball.

For my boys, the Astros are stuck on 69 wins. I'll be happy if they get even one win to go to 70 wins on the season. To do that, though, we're going up to Flushing, New York to battle Blitz24's New York Mets, who are also not going to anybody's postseason with their 77-82 record (tied with Atlanta). Got to love inner-forum rivalries!

Good luck to all of your team(s) in this final regular season weekend of Major League Baseball.

70 WINS! We finally broke into the 70 wins club by beating the New York Mets 3-1 in Flushing, New York at Citi Field. Our turnaround from the 2013 season just gets better. We went from 51 wins all of last season to 70 after tonight. One more win will mean a 20-win turnaround, and a series sweep would mean a 21-win turnaround. The future is bright for my Astros. That is... pending any sort of crap that screws up this team for years to come. And here in Houston, there aren't too many Houstonians that are fans of Jeff Luhnow.

* Arizona relieved Kirk Gibson of his duties and even dismissed Alan Trammell. The Diamondbacks are 63-96 heading into tonight's match vs. St. Louis- the current worst record in baseball.

* Kansas City makes the postseason for the first time since 1985 with a 3-1 win at the Chicago White Sox.

* 11-4 was the score in Detroit as the visiting Minnesota Twins smacked up the Detroit Tigers.

Boy... I know you must feel like crap tonight, AnthonyD1993, after your Tigers got spanked by Minnesota followed by the Chicago White Sox doing next to nothing to help give you a little lift. Sorry, man.

My Astros were winners today, and so... congratulations to all winners from Friday.

The Tigers are getting their backsides handed to them on a plate tonight. The Tigers got on the board first with a Castellanos solo shot, but it's been all Twins since then, though another Tiger scored. Davis getting injured in the second inning stings and will be a pretty massive blow to the Tigers in the post-season if it's a serious injury. 12-2 Twins. The AL Central race is looking to go to the final game of the regular season. KC is losing to the White Sox 4-1 as of the time of this post (22:06 EDT), so I'll be watching and rooting for the Tigers in their final game of the season.
