Manufacturer Races ( Manufacturers Events )

In trying to complete GT Nationals using appropriate cars, Manufacturer's Events provide many appropriate and obvious entries for every race except for the third US event. The problem is, its power limit is 394 hp, which excludes the Vipers and restricts the choice of Corvettes. Perhaps I should just try with a killer custom Neon? 283hp and lighter weight versus up to 394? It might manage it reliably. I could use a Ford Focus, but it wasn't really American at that time. (Especially a "Ghia" model).

So probably a low-powered but tuneable Muscle Car should use up one of my non-manufacter garage slots. BA-RRA-CU-DA . . . ???

Thinking about it, I want 1 starter, 88 manufacturer's cars, and only 9 more cars, for a total of 98 in the "completed" garage. That allows one slot for an experiment, while still leaving another for the prizes.

Ha ha..you got the spirit of the game...jsut wait till you're going down the corkscrew in the later Nationals...half the rear-drive cars wind up sliding down the hill and the other half wind up in a demolition derby!

Eventually I used the Cuda'70 to do the last U.S. race, and also all the Muscle Car events. It ought to be able to win the Seattle 100, too, when I decide to find time to try it.

An Impreza Wagon works for the Station Wagon Cup, as well as the Impreza race. Even though, as a real-life Impreza Wagon owner, I'd say it's not really quite a real station wagon. You see STi ver.V and STi ver.VI competing in the AI field. I used a STi Ver.II, mostly so I could buy a red one. Actually one of the prizes is a Ver.V, and I do have a red one of those in my prize-car collection garage.

Now I think I'll start working through the Manufacturers' Events in order, picking off obvious races with each car as I do. I sold a bunch of easily-rewon cars last night, but it will be sad when I need to start selling off the ones which come in multiple colours. I think I can free up another save to keep them, however.

Will you change car if the car you pick win the race too easy or too hard?

Not for too easy this time through. In the case of too hard, it will depend just how too hard it it.

If you want to get some idea what AI cars compete in which races, try this link. Cross-reference them with what Manufacturer's Events exist, and you can cut down the number of cars to buy.

And another dilemma. U.S. or not? NSX? Focus? Ka?
According to my notes, the AI doesn't use the NSX for the American races, even though the disk has hard-coded duplicates of the Honda and Acura NSXs, with some exceptions. (All Honda NSXs can be race-modded, not all Acura NSXs can...the existence of a NSX '90 and NSX Type-R '92.) I wonder if there are two NSX-based Manufacturer's Events in non-NTSC versions, although I've yet to hear about it.

Yeah, i was wondering the same thing at some point.

Hi PB! Would you let it slide if it was 68 Pounds?--)

cheater!! :ill: :yuck:

...ha ha you know how to get those buttons pressed dude :)

Last Sunday my wife had a stroke, and is in the hospital, apparently and hopefully recovering, but still along way from healthy. Not much GT for the foreseeable future.

I had decided, however, that I would collect most of the cheater R-mod entrants to the Manufacturers' Events to give me some sort of selection for harder events and rallies. E.g. Opel Tigra Ice Race Car.

Yeah, i hope she gets well soon. I have a friend in the hospital for dialysis or however you spell it. Guess his drinking days are just about over which sucks cuz he often works in bars.

PMP
It's one of my favorite races too, I love that crazy finish line section.

I know. I love flying over the unofficial bump in that right area just before the finish line. In gT3 and 4 they made it too angled like this: / so when you drive over it you get too sideways. :grumpy:

I couldn't sleep last night, so I got up in the middle of the night and played "scratch GT2", i.e. using my current garage (this manufacturer's theme), but not saving the card back. (And then, without making any notes). That was my first GT in a month.

I've decided I'll collect a few of the "cheater" Manufacturer's events entrants, to help with the tougher regular events, and so, to also help remember driving again, I raced and won the [R]Silvia and [R]TT events with the Daishin Silvia and TT LM respectively. I did a Red Rock All-Stars race, to practice making money. I used the Unisia Jecs Skyline, which can enter the [R]GT-R race, but I'm not sure if it's the money-maker I'll finally keep, or not. Actually, after initially finishing the game, I'll start reducing the number of those cheaters.

To finish up, I took a Midget, with Supersoft tires as its only mod, and tried the Midget race. I kept coming second. Rome Night, Apricot II, Rome Night the other way (not sure which is I or II; I think the first one was I, actually), and then finally I won at DFRW II. It's strange that you can actually overcook it sometimes with that stock vehicle, but then it can get up to about 70mph, and doesn't have a lot to give it stability. And at times cheater tires seem to help the car get out of control, actually, because it doesn't slide or scrub speed as soon as it should, and so gets out-of-balance.

On alot of tracks all you need is a racing tranny so the Midget will top 75 mph :D But then, in most of my GT2 games i didn't want to part with 10,000 credits and just raced with a stock box instead.

I used to go with just engine balancing sometimes, for more or less the same reason; minimal HP increase but upped the redline a bit, hence, slightly higher top end.

That works, too. The most economical solution is a simple computer chip and maybe a sports suspension. Now you got a tad more power than the Ai + a bit of control for the front-end, which (in a Midget) tends to grab a bit too much.

Yeah for the manufacture races i would sometimes buy a single-plate clutch & flywheel for weak cars, just to help them shift a little faster. 👍 But i would usually try and buy the least parts i could in an attempt to save money.

I rolled my 8-sided dice and my #1 driver came up! Which means i'm starting GT4 tonite!! :) 👍

Okay, really not bringing back the dead here for an OT post, will have some things to say about Manufacturer's events as I'm about done looking at them, but this comment about rolling an 8 sided die caught my eye.

Um, 8 sided die? I know of only one reason why someone would have one of those, and it goes with pen and paper... and you might use words like Dexterity...

I was into D&D and Fantasy Trip and other games back in the '80s as a teen, and I stll have most of my dice. ;)

Still got my dice, too, great for random decision making among 4, 8, 10, 12, or 20 options!

I noticed all the links above are dead, so I'll go ahead and list the events here with my notes.

First, all non-R manufacturers events can be won fairly by tuning to the best power-to-weight ratio of legal entrants with no other mods, no tranny, no tires, no suspension, nada.

Here they are in order of lowest to highest weight to power ratios (kg/hp) so you can find some challenging events with track randomness:

2.94 - Tuscan Speed Cup - very hard but fair, may want sports tires+susp
3.31 - Viper Festival - using GSR fair but again hard
3.53 - ZZ Challenge - for ZZ-S
3.64 - Elise Trophy - using 190
4.27 - Impreza Challenge - go for 4.5 for more of a challenge
4.47 - NSX Trophy - using Type S Zero
4.62 - Corvette Meeting - may try 4.8 to 5...
4.67 - DB-7 Trophy - using Coupe
4.69 - RX-7 Meeting - fair though the RS '98 has 4.59
4.77 - Skyline R34 Challenge
4.98 - GT-R meetup
5.04 - Evolution Meeting - using Evo IV GSR fair, others are better
5.04 - Challenge S2000

5.55 - Elan Trophy
5.57 - Type R Meeting
5.67 - Almera - VZ-R N1
5.76 - Delta Cup - this is Integrale
5.90 - Civic Race - this is Type R

18.38 - Midget Contest

For the R events, there's always at least a slight boost in hp observable off the line, but most events are still fair without increasing your hp. In all cases add sports tires, in a few cases add suspension and hard slicks, still haven't found any events requiring tranny upgrades:

2.34 - Tuscan Speed Cup - hard slicks + semi-race suspension, also NA1+chip
2.75 - ZZ Challenge
2.82 - Viper Festival - hard slicks and semi-race suspension advised
3.24 - Elise Trophy
3.28 - Corvette Meeting - used sport suspension
3.99 - DB-7 Trophy - used sport suspension
