McLaren MP/4-29 launch

According to this journalist's theory people don't want to pay as much for McLaren this year based on last year's performance.

Reading between the lines if McLaren put in a stellar performance this weekend then Ron Dennis believes a number of companies will be interested. He needs to put his McLaren where his mouth is first. My gut instinct is that it's looking good.

It seems to me that the Ronster has said to the board "Let me try something, we're already ****ed so it can't get much worse". And tried to avoid mentioning Williams.

No, that needs to be black, not blue. The blue and red makes me think if the ING Renault designs, with too many dominant colours competing for space.

Pretty sure the ING colors was purple, yellow and orange (a very bright orange and yellow at that).

And white. And they were poorly-proportioned, too.

Generally, you can have two dominant colours, and preferably one highlight, though you can get away with two depending on how you apply them (Red Bull do). You can also do what Williams have, with one dominant colour and three highlights.

In this case, silver and black are the dominant colours on the MP-4/29. Making the sidepods blue puts a third dominant colour in the mix, which does not work.

Silver is the traditional Mercedes colour since they stopped using blue, Mobil have (iirc) come out of many colours with a white (or contrasting) typeface logo.

Advertising is as much about a word nowadays, text moves faster than images. For an F1 car visibility is the key and the sponsor needs to be sure that in that glimpse you KNOW exactly who they are. They'll do all the extra marketing in the normal way. For Martini it's a little different because they can just use the stripe (neither a picture nor text, really).

That doesn't help work out who the title sponsor may be, I'm just saying that liveries aren't as limited to colour/images as much as they once were.

EDIT: They might even run a hashtag, I'd love that 'cos it would prove my point :D

I think it looks great. Simple, classy, classical. Would like more pictures of it though.

They will come once the car hits the track. The leaked photos that showed the black on the sidepods did not have sponsor decals on them. Right now, the cars are locked up in parc ferme

What do people think of this variant? I just made it, since I wanted to see a bit more colour!
