lol, welcome to last page yo!
Oops..that's what you get for not reading threads properly! :dunce:

Reading through some forums quite a few people seem to dislike this older Snake...or maybe it's just the furry top-lip? Still, if those stills from the TGS vid are anything to go by it's already looking pretty amazing.

Oh and in the pic of Snake(?) looking up..is that the barrel of a gun or something he's injecting into his neck?

Perhaps...but maybe not.

Who would Raiden be holding, then? The one on the right DOES look a lot like Olga. Who was the father of her child, again?

No, Olga's baby didn't grow up in just a few years. I think Tha Con's right, Raiden is holding Olga's baby. But if thats the case, you must start MGS4 straight after MGS2 since the baby would be a child by the time Snake's aged like he has. I can't remmeber if MGS4 is 5 or 10 years after MGS2 though.

Maybe it's Olga's grandchild.

Damn Raiden, always playing with that frickin' sword of his.

I think MGS4 might take place over a few years rather than just a certain few days.

Also, on the right, it might be possible it's rose...the character sketches never look identicle to their on screen counter parts (points to snake, big boss, ocelot) we only recognize them because we are familiar etc. Who knows, but it's not olga's child. Here is a "theory" I have come up with...just off the wall crazy crack pot stuff.

Here's my thought. You play through as Raiden at first, possibly, in a different time setting. Reason I think this is because he's holding Olga's baby, who appears to still be an infant in the depicted picture. Since Otacon looks older (snake doesn't count due to acellerated aging) I would assume you play them in a different time frame.

I'm also assuming this story will have a few "chapters" in it. Myril looks the same, as well as "possibly" Naomi. So perhaps something happens along the course of time, to include Raiden and others, that ultimately leads to a chaotic state of the union/world.

My theory is, that in a last effort to "dethrone" Solid Snake and put him out of business, since Raiden more than likely defected from their associatoin, the patriots are getting the Corpse of Big Boss to "clone" him once again, to make more super soldiers. They will use these soldiers to kill off solid snake, and eventually chaos breaks out across the globe.

So, this all takes place over the course of 3-7 years, which would put Otacon at about what, 40 years old maybe? and snake at about the same age. Snake of course would look older due to accelerated aging that has finally kicked in.

Just some crack pot ideas I had...and of course...you didn't hear them from me...unless I'm right

Yeah. I like this quote, spawned from my past MGS discussions with others.

"Now, I either hit the nail on the head, or I'm a complete and total idiot."

Rossell
Now we know Snakes age, I can safely say one of those (the one on the far right) is Olga's child.
No, the person on the far right is Naomi Hunter. Top is MGS pic, and below is MGS4 poster.

Pretty much.

Though I was right about MGS3...and that means absolutely nothing LOL. But still, that must be good for something? lmao.

Sure. Thinking is fun!

Man...this is going to be some absolutely insane stuff. If we keep getting stories and insights like these, the Ps3 is going to beat the X360 for sure.

I wonder how the controls are going to be adapted with the new environment.

I was just thinking of that. You're right! Thinking is FUN!!!

I hope the CQC stays the same, or at least, something similar. I loved the whole aspect of CQC. Getting helpful hints from "holding up" badies is a lot more fun than calling any member of your support team, like in MGS, and a bit like MGS2, to get information.

I also hope we get another sniping rifle, like the M25 I mentioned earlier. I also hope the controls stay the same, too. The sniping controls were the best in any game I've played. For example, the controls for sniping in Kill Zone and those terrible Splinter Cell games are the worst I've played.

But what I hope MGS4 has this time around, is first person view movement. In MGS3 you couldn't aim a pistol or rifle in first person view, and move forward or backwards, at the same time. You couldn't eve walk forward in FPV. I hated that. It was nice how we go to move up, down, left and right, though. Tip toe was great, too.

The legal and illegal sales of Metal Gears would have caused this. Remember, Metal Gears are still the underlying theme.

I just hope the camera doesn't SUCK. How're we supposed to see facial expressions if we can't even see wtf we're doing?

I hated how the camera was in mgs3...especially when you tried to go back from where you came. If you tried to navigate backwards, it was almost impossible to see what the hell was going on.

Yeah, it was little frustrating, but I'm no one to request faster camera movements. Same thing with the aiming speed. It was a little on the slow slide, but at least it wasn't too fast to make me sick. I get motion sick if camera movements are too fast, and happen to often. So, I like how MGS3 didn't make me sick with too fast movements, but hated how slow aiming was.

I got use to using the right analog stick. When moving back to were you ran from, push the right analog stick down, and the push it in to lock the camera in that position. I loved how you could lock the camera into whatever position you needed it to be in. Left, right, forward or backwards.

EDIT: Here's the MGS4: Guns of the Patriots Trailer Link (Now Available!)

The TGS MGS4: Guns of the Patriots Trailer has been shown. Read below if you don't mind being spoiled.

media

The nine-minute long promo for the newly-christened Guns of the Patriots opens with a cunning ruse: You're immediately thrust behind a rifle amid a squad of soldiers who are carefully surveying a bombed-out urban wasteland. The sheer visual prowess of the PS3 instantly impresses: Futuristic helicopters hover overhead, realistic clouds of dust and debris sweep across your field of vision, blinding lens flares and high-dynamic range lighting paint the city with stunning shadows...it's all very, very pretty. Just as you're coming to the realization that MGS4 appears to be a full-on first-person shooter, complete with strafing, Kojima pulls one of his trademark wordplay jokes. Several zany acronyms for FPS spray across the screen, climaxing with the question: Is MGS4 an FPS? Suddenly, a silver-haired Solid Snake appears from off-screen and pulls some punishing close-quarters combat moves against the enemy solider whose view you've been sharing. "No way!" erupts across the screen. Guess that clears that up...

Snake proceeds to take cover within a crumbling edifice while large patrols of enemy soldiers, armored personnel carriers, and giant bipedal Metal Gear robots march through the windswept streets. As Snake takes a breather, you can access how he's changed. Snake now sports a silvery mullet, slightly embarrassing moustache, form-fitting new sneaking suit, and a highly futuristic "Solid Eye System" electronic eyepatch. Snake obviously looks a bit worse for the wear, and the trailer doesn't divulge exactly how much time has progressed since the events of MGS2. A mysterious "X years after the events of Big Shell" gives some hint, but the battle-scarred, world-weary Snake here seems to have taken a page from the Sam Fisher "I'm too old for this ****" for this latest adventure. Snake's health even seems to be in danger: While hiding out in this building, he's gripped by a nasty coughing fit that he quiets with a sudden ampoule to the neck. After having to hunt wildlife and mend wounds in MGS3, having to constantly give Snake his meds in MGS4 could easily win the "most depressingly realistic minigame yet" prize.

Snake's respite ends when a Metal Gear busts into his hiding place. Well, not so much bust in...this miniature Metal Gear (bearing a striking resemblance to the cute helper 'bot from Kojima's acclaimed Sega CD graphic adventure Snatcher) comically putts around, revealing a direct-feed viewscreen of Snake's nerdy pal Otacon. This remote-controlled robot allows Otacon to aid Snake's quest while keeping him out of harm's way, and he gets Snake back into the fight with a fresh machine gun clip. Otacon quips that his robot runs on the Cell processor, but Snake has no time for tech babble - a war is raging outside.

Suddenly, the trailer cuts to the viewpoint of the larger Metal Gears patrolling the street: It's spotted Snake, so he has to make a run for it. Snake's high-tech new eyepatch comes in handy, allowing him to scan the area, view a large overhead map, and get critical info on targets. Snake and his robot pal make a run for it, leaping and shooting in majestic slow-mo as the stunningly realistic cityscape shatters around him. The spindly, bidpedal Metal Gears leap across the street, causing massive, earthshaking thuds as they land. Bullets fill the air, absurd amounts of debris, smoke, and particles obscure your vision, and intense waves of heat warp your view. War on the PS3 looks like hell, and MGS4's "No place to hide" mantra seems all too true.

Sadly, the action comes to an end quickly, leaving you wanting more. Snake recalls Otacon's explanation of his little robot and asks, "Hey, what is that Cell processor, anyway?" Here, Kojima breaks the fourth wall and goes all meta on us: Otacon breaks out his laptop (complete with Zone of the Enders 2 wallpaper) and shows Snake Sony's rubber-duckies-in-a- bathtub demo, followed by the too-good-to-be-true Killzone PS3 demo from E3. Otacon continues, telling Snake that the Cell processor is "The key to winning the console war." He also promises that MGS4 will be "worth the wait." We're guessing he's right.

Viper Zero
And I am stuck on my PSP right now...

Damn.

Game Trailers has the video streaming!

Get it while it's hot!
OMFG! That was not in game! No way! We cannot be that fortunate to get such a beautiful looking game. It was so real, I felt scared! The wind howling, all those soldiers, bipedals and transporters coming made me feel uneasy!

FPS, is just a joke? I don't think so. I bet he has first person views this time around. Like I said before, that was the feature missing in MGS3. Why would Kojima make that part of the demo in FPV just for a joke? Though I think it will feature a FPS view point, I bet it's not as elaborate as traditional first person shooters out there, already.

Nice find Viper!

The joke was that it wasn't going to be an FPS game. I'm still downloading it because bittorrent is hogging my bandwidth. lol.

Yeah, I think it's just a joke. You wouldn't want to use a first person view in MGS, besides for aiming, IMO. It's just a jab at the Killzone trailer at E3.

Solid Snake seems to be sick. Maybe something is wrong with his DNA. I think Liquid Snake said something about this (I forget).

Xbox 360 seriously has nothing to compare with MGS4. Microsoft should take note.

Yeah, it was taking a jab at Killzone and demonstrating how snake owns FPS (the rifleman).

Yeah...I guess the sickness has to do with his accelerated aging. I wish I knew why, though.

edit: Damn, that stash is REALLY bothering me. Almost makes snake look like my uncle/a police man.

Ah bother...looks like there's a lot of people downloading from gametrailers at the moment. Usually 110kbps...now as low as 30 or even 10...Well, guess I have to wait or look elsewhere.... :(

That trailer.Was.Amazing. Wait till I show my friends!

Didn't the trailer say it was X(10) years after Big Shell?

I've heared it was 10 years after before, maybe you've just picked up confirmation of that in typical Hideo fashion.

*giggles*

Killzone just isn't possible.

LOL!

Or how about Formula 1 that was just TOOOO real to be true? LMAO.

I love people!

Finally seen it. Very impressed, even if not too much of actual game dynamics were shown, you know that the actual game engine was used for the trailer as they were in trailers for MGS2 and 3.
I'm thinking about when I play that on my 46" TV in 720p widescreen and 5.1 sound......    Damn I'll be a happy man..

just watched the trailer, and wow is all i can say, shame it was a cam job, but im guessing Konami will release the hi def version soon for the press. looks stunning.

I'm guessing my theory is getting closer.

Since this is "rumored" to be 10 years after MGS2...yet the art of Raiden is young w/ the infant...I'm thinking it will tkae place over a span of time, possibly longer than I thought. I don't think we'll play soley as snake in this time frame, it will jump around in story perhaps via flashback that we can controll...that would be cool! lol.
