Not really. It still looks fantastic on my 720p set.

This game is insane, man.

Be a pretty big FAIL, erm... EPIC FAIL if it wasn't... lol

Are you suggesting any game that is not in 1080p is an epic fail... that would be really bad news for the vast majority of games (including GRiD), and the games on the 3600 in particular.

The reality is just like a film, just because something is native 1080p doesn't mean its guaranteed to look nice, and just because something is 480p doesn't mean it's going to look bad.

There are some reference quality DVD transfers in 480i, and terrible looking HD transfers in 1080p, like Sony's transfer of "House of Flying Daggers". :yuck:

With games, this is even more of an issue, as even the graphic intense games like Crysis, running on a top of the end +$5,000 PC with dual high performance graphic cards, rendering at 1440p @ 60fps, in no way compares to the quality and detail found on your typical 1080p transfer on Blu-ray and HD DVD at 24 fps.

So I guess, other than trying to find fault in a high profile game that's exclusive to a platform you have chosen to continually attack... what exactly was the point of your post?

Having fun!

I've played up til the "Frogs" on my way to Liquid. Took me 5 hours! I'm taking it really slow! I'm searching for everything.

Found a couple of songs, two uniforms, couple of Playboys (hold L1 and R1 down and press O to flip pages), all grenades and have already racked up around 70,000 DP. Spent some on a M14 and other items and have around 50,000 DP left.

Fantastic so far! I'm loving every second of it. I was trying to go for zero kills, but accidental stabbed and killed a guy and didn't feel like starting over. I'll go for zero kills next playthrough.

I just put several hours into the game... and I'm mightly impressed.

I don't recall ever playing a game where the story is so involved - it's better than some theatre movies that are being made nowadays. Each character has their own personality and fits into the game well, even if some are very odd, but still strangely enough fit in. I only played MGS2, but I presume MGS4 will blow the others into the wind with how much stuff is in it. I love the little touches the Metal Gear series has always given us, like the comic stuff, Snakes suit staying the same colour you last had it change to throughout a 20 minute cutscene (very odd in white  ), the safety warnings on the install screens... it all makes the game even better.

The action took a little getting used to, but stealthing around is very fun and can put you on the edge if you get it wrong. The first person view you can switch into can help pinpoint headshots, but I don't see any other use for it. Other than that the controls are pretty much the same as I remember them in MGS2, which is a good thing.

The graphics are the best I've seen on the PS3, possibly the best I've ever seen. Some of the action scenes, particularly faster scenes, flying aircraft and moving vehicles they look almost real. You could have sworn it doesn't run at the 720p it's only capable of as mentioned on the back of the box.

All this and I've only just started the 2nd Act... I can only expect it will get better. 👍

I am playing on Solid Normal, or the second hardest setting. It ain't easy. I don't know how I'm going to complete this game with ZERO kills. Seems impossible. Especially after the "Drebin Run." I hope my DP carry over to the easiest level.

I fought Laughing Octopus and... *SPOILERS*I first shot her with an automatic belt fed .30 machine gun. Once her 'headgear' came off, she was an easy non-lethal kill with Mk.22 tranq pistol.

I just started Act III. I kinda dozed off a little, and I don't completely understand... ah, don't want to spoil that, so never mind. Let's just say, I don't understand why they need to get 'you know who, before you know whom.'

I'm also on Solid Normal. Seems a tad harder than the Naked Normal my brother is playing.

SL, this ain't a criticism of you, but if you're wanting to put spoilers in, there is proper spoiler coding on the boards, it just doesn't get used much: [*spoiler] to begin and [*/spoiler] to close it off (without the asterisks, of course).

Crap me, Laughing Octopus was both brilliant and scary, at the same time!

Awesome game so far, just started Act III last night before hitting the bed at 4 in the morning!! I had a warning come up whilst I was installing the next part saying something along the lines of playing the game for this long is not good for your eyesight, maybe you should rest? Hell no!

What themes are these? PS3 themes? be good to see some preview for all :)

Hard mode is tough, I got killed many times in first few levels. But its worth it. This is my first Metal gear game on HARD difficulty's. In previous ones I play on easy or medium, and running around was fine, In here, running they hear your footsteps from far away, and you never know whos behind a corner.
I also wanted not too kill too many soildeiers, but there were some instances I just had to help out one army, it was my decision, and fighting the streets one by one.

Did anyone noticed this game is REALLY, Really! intense? Fighting now takes much longer, AI soilideirs have good AI lol, And with Surround system, crank it up, it feels like a real war zone my whole house was shacking with every explosion just wow. Fighting street by street is really well done, Unlike other FPS when you run and gun down the foes.
So far this game is one of my best MGS games. And possibly even one of the best games for me of all time.

I know I said I wouldn't buy it but what the heck. Got it this morning, I had a look around for the cheapest price but they are all the same but HMV have got a buy a game and get a selected BD title for £10 so I went with this. I must say running it at 720p the switching it 1080p makes a huge difference, the game looks stunning and the sound is awesome. Im just watching TV at the moment but iI will put a few hours in today then tomorrow afternoon.

EDIT: I'm playing on the setting second from the bottom, I guess this is the Second Hardest setting, and I'm finding it quite difficult, in fact I've killed about 10 people already.

It's rumored the game did 600K first day in Japan, which includes the Limited Edition PS3, and the Special and Regular editions. It does not, however, include the "Welcome Bundles", so it *could* be more, but who knows.

Did I say this is the best game I've ever played?

Also, I noticed the comment to solid...he's not talking about the story is he? I may have to boycott GTP until I'm done if so.

No, he was commenting on a boss fight; no spoilers story-wise. I just conjured that some people would take that as a violation of the holiest of holies and react poorly; plus, few people seem to know of the spoiler function. I don't think people should feel alienated from the thread - or the wider forums - either because they have or haven't played the game, but still want to disucss it.

Could be worse. People have been known to post major spoilers in thread titles and unrelated threads on other forums. GTP is pretty clean, but then, these other forums are places you wouldn't go without ten commandos to scout the way first. They're the filfth of the interweb.

Just bought it :D

Couldn't wait to get it. I'll be back in a week.

Yep same here:P I couldn't wait .. ended up buying it from Gamestation for 45 quid, and it was an impulse buy really! it was either buy online for 34 quid and wait a week or buy it there and then and play it tonight :sly:

Ok ... off to try and figure how to control it now! cya's in a few months

Hello GameStop, the place I should've gone to in the first place.
Kind of sad when you are willing to hear, "Would you like to preorder anything today?" because it is the easiest way to buy a new game.

I have it running now, it's just as quiet as the 60GB.
Yeah, I saw you popping on and off on the PSN last night. I figured you had gotten the bundle.

Welcome back to the PS3 fold. Now, how long before you kick my butt at Warhawk again?

Side not, yet MGS related. Staying hoem after my wife's oral surgery yesterday I had plenty of time to play games while she was in a drug induced sleep. Beat MGS1. It was awesome, but with the sappy ending I had I now wish I would have submitted to the torture. It would have been easier and I wouldn't have had to watch Snake go all lovey dovey.

Quick question regarding story continuity from MGS1 to MGS4 for those who have it and are playing:
This is regarding what appears to be Meryl in the MGS4 trailers. If you have ignored the MGS4 trailers and not run into a woman that could be Meryl in MGS4 you may want to stop now.

Does MGS4 assume that you did not submit to torture and that Meryl has always lived? It just seems that Meryl being in MGS4 is ignoring that there was a possibility of her not living for some.

Also, I haven't gotten the game yet, and probably won't. I did ask for it for my birthday, so it is plausible that I will get it when we all get together tomorrow. For now all I have received is Rock Band. If I don't get it I will probably put it on my Gamefly list and buy it used after playing through MGS2 and MGS3.

Ahhhhh, so that's how it works!

Thanks dude! 👍

Crap me, Laughing Octopus was both brilliant and scary, at the same time!

Spoiler "How To Beat Laughing Octopus"
It was more frustrating than scary, but she was pretty creepy. I first tried shooting her with a tranq pistol and wasted 10 rations doing it. I got her down to about three more shots when I died. Pissed me off. All that work for nothing. But, like I said, shoot her with a belt fed machine gun, never let up 'til she moves, and repeat until the headgear comes off. Then, you can 'tranq' kill her easily.

It was 12:24AM when I downloaded for Act III, and at the screen was Snake smoking and it first said, "It's past 0:00AM! You've been playing for hours! Don't you think you should rest for awhile!

Also, I noticed the comment to solid...he's not talking about the story is he? I may have to boycott GTP until I'm done if so.

No, I wont 'spoil' the story, it was about beating Laughing Octopus. It's on this post at the top. I just tell how to more easily beat her with a 'tranq' kill so you can 'get something neat.' It's story safe. I feel it's safe to say when beating the BnB you get something special for a 'non-lethal' kill. "Special" being very debatable. lol

Oh yeah I've beaten it, I was just saying it was a bit messed up. I'm onto Act IV now which looks strangely familiar ;)

SHADOW MOSES!!

OK, haven't gone that far, so I wont read the spoiler just yet!

Anybody else find the camera? FUN! You can create your own in-game JPEGS!

See!

Lol, just got a warning saying:
You started playing the game 7 hours ago, isn't it time you had a break?

Lol
and the game's right. Don't want to finish it to early.

It's funny that you guys are getting these warnings.
Just the other day I started play MGS: The Twin Snakes without a memory card and so just before I finished the first disc the game sent me a message "Snake, you haven't saved your game in a long time, do you wish to save?"
All I could think was "of course I do but I don't have a memory card!"

I'm glad to see the people doing MGS are just as nutty as they've always been. :D

Btw, how are the controls this time around?
I mean, is there still a first person shooting option and can you move the character while in that FPS view?
Also, does the PS3 controller work well with the controls?
Thanks!

I think the controls are superb personally. You soon forget about the lack of rumble and it kinda makes everything feel more... Stealthy. Never-the-less, blasting goons in first person whilst moving is, as always, such a nice feeling. Hope that answers your question.

MGS4 is on another level of "nuttiness".

I think the controls work pretty well. I don't remember the specifics, but I think L1 brings your gun up so you can aim. Then you can press triangle to bring the scope up and R1 is to shoot.

I know, right? :) Once I get through MGS4, GTA4, and CoD4, I'll pick up Warhawk again. I'm having serious withdrawals. Unfortunately, I believe all the ranking information is in the save file, I'll have to start over again.
