Mon 20:00-21:30 UK time - PC2 - Hosted by @IfAndOr - Please refer to new threadPS4

Sorry @Sick Cylinder I haven't been on PC2 since Napalm's Nordschleife night so I've not looked at the cars yet. I'll try to have a go later today and get back to you with my choice.

If you haven't got a time/weather setting you could use the options from my casual drive with increased rates to account for the racing speeds. When I test the cars later I'll check if the timings work out and adjust them if required.

Edit - Forget my settings for now. I forgot the 240Z hasn't got any lights! Probably best to have the race in the light anyway since it's a "new" track.

Oh and...

Edit 2: BMW #5 for me please.

@Sick Cylinder
After trying the cars and the track last night I came up with these settings which work equally well in both directions. Should you like to use them it's nice and light with no rain.

Track - Azure Coast (either direction)
Date - 1/8/201?
Session start time - 6.00 (am)
Time progression - 2x
Season - Summer
Weather slots - 4
Light cloud / Light cloud / Hazy / Clear
Sync to race.

Could I suggest turning the damage to visual only? The nature of the track will mean some contact, car to car or with the surroundings, is inevitable at some point I would think. It's a tricky enough track without having a wonky steering.
On quite a few occasions while racing against the AI their cars hit various bollards and trackside furniture which flew though the air and crashed into my car car wrecking the front of it. I must have a word with Sick I thought. :)

And one other tip for everyone. In the Visual FX options try switching the Interior Sun Flare on to the subtle setting. It makes the sun through the window effects less glaring and more er, subtle.

BMW #16 please

@Sick Cylinder , what date, time and whether settings will be use

The original plan for the 3 Round Series on Monday and Wednesday was simple settings based on summer sun with no rain (to help us escape from our current winter!). It was going to be current date minus 6 months to get summer and a year appropriate to the cars being raced.

I am happy to use the suggested settings from @IfAndOr, but summer presumably will give us warmer tarmac.

Could I suggest turning the damage to visual only?

I am hoping to get 3 (or more) sessions of racing into each meeting so we will have multiple chances - bearing that in mind damage should not be a problem. I will be treating it like a road rally - i.e. I don't know the track by heart so will be even slower and more careful than usual. The game will put us in random order so it makes sense for slower drivers to let fast guys through.

PS There have been a few posts recently by Ian Bell and from these it seems that we might be stuck with PC2 for another 3 or 4 years. I will start listing out ideas for 2020 - if you have any ideas for series for 2020 on, feel free to send me a message.

The default date (used for convenience) is the 27th of May but setting it to the 1st of August works just as well, if not better. I'll edit the post accordingly.

be stuck with PC2 for another 3 or 4 years.
I think it may possibly be before then (that's just their console). However since there's already been two versions on the PS4 I do think it'll be on the next generation of whatever.
Unlike most people on the that thread I quite like the idea of their souped up dedicated game machine the "Madbox". Whether it will be successful remains to be seen but a British company trying to be innovative is good to see and should be applauded. Not shot down before they've even got off the ground!

They should have teamed up with Nintendo though and created a MadNES machine. :)

You may have to venture into more modern machinery at some point.

f you have any ideas for series for 2020 on, feel free to send me a message.

I'm not sure what you guys did before I started racing with you but I guess a few suggestions could be:

Renault Alpine A442b v Porsche 936 Spyder
(Thinking of circuits like Le Mans, Spa, Fuji, Monza etc.)

Formula Fords around UK and some smaller European circuits.

I've also always liked the David v Goliath-esque battles you get with the Racing Ford Escort 1600 and Merc 300SEL 6.8. Relies on tighter circuits to stop the Merc dominating too much. Similar to the Mini v Mustang touring car battles from the 60's. Perhaps they are two cars we can hope get added to PC3.

Vintage F1 in the Lotus Type-38 or 40.

Is there any chance we could run without track limit penalties Sick? Noticing a few areas where clipping the pavement is causing my TT lap to be invalidated, even though it's because the car has run a little wide on exit due to a mid corner crest and two wheels have gone over the kerb. Not only will it be frustrating to have the penalties for such a minor infraction in the race, but on a tight blind road like this, having cars serving slow down penalties all the time will only serve to cause potential accidents.

It looks like PC3 will be on the next generation of consoles - probably sometime in 2022 - so presumably 3 to 4 years. I think PS5 is rumoured for 2022 as well.

one concern is about extra cost - we will have to splash out for a new console (and probably a new TV or monitor to get the full benefit!).

The main concern however is about fracturing the player base. If we all upgraded to PS5 and bought PC3 we would be able to continue racing each other. I am presuming that the new Mad Box is not really a console, but a PC with console convenience so players on that will compete with players on PC. Madbox users will probably not be able to compete with PS5 users or Xbox users so the player base will be fractured although we would meet up again with friends who have already made the switch to PC.

If this really is a console then this move by SMS doesn't make sense at all - players would not be able to race with PS5, Xbox or PC users and the player base would be tiny. The project would be doomed to almost instant failure - it reminds me of the Brabazon Aircraft - it was the biggest and best when it first flew, but none were ordered by airlines - eventually it was cut up and sold for scrap and forgotten by the public.

Much bigger companies than SMS have not been able to make a commercial success of consoles - my understanding is that although Sony is doing well, the Xbox is not a money maker for Microsoft. It might be good for us in the long term if Xbox failed leaving just PC or PlayStation as the gaming options as then we wouldn't have the fractured playing base that we have now.

I did a quick test last night and will use these settings which worked well:

Date 01/08/75
Time 06:00
Weather Sync to Race, 2 slots, Light Cloud, Medium Cloud

I will try to remember about reducing penalties.

Not sure what you other guys think but Sick...

Can I perhaps suggest the third (3rd) pedestrian crossing (white lines on road) would be a good place to "start" at race pace. You wouldn't want to go too much further. With perhaps no overtaking until after the first 2 tight left hand corners.

However I'm not sure how many will read this though.

Had some bad luck with the starting positions but that was challenging.
My opinion is at point-to-point races standing start proceedure where the race begins with the green light on because there will always be a next narrow corner.

Quite interesting lastnight. Considering I hadn't played PC2 for a month I was pretty happy with my placings in the first two races, even if I was quite fortunate with start positions. In the last race I damaged my car critically in the first couple of corners so had to retire.

I'd agree with this, the starts last night were a bit of a mess – I don't think any of us really knew when to set off or properly 'go'. I think we have a fairly clean bunch of racers in the room at the moment so it might be worth us trying a normal standing green-light start next week. If there are any serious first-corner collisions we could have a brief replay review the next day, with DQs given to the offenders of any serious crashes and their points donated to the affected victim(s)?

Ok it was a little chaotic at times but nevertheless I quite enjoyed last night. I'd have been up for some more races. Those who got caught up in the mayhem didn't enjoy it quite so much I expect.

Perhaps the damage off might have been a good idea. :sly:

Seems sensible to me. Although I know Sick doesn't want to spend time watching replays. We should be able to police ourselves really. Perhaps go on green but DON'T overtake until a point/corner chosen by Sick?

I'd agree we're all clean racers, we really should be able to get around the first corner without crashing. Being aware of the cars around you is very tricky, more so than in real life, but it just needs a bit of self control. If someone crashes into me I never think it's intentional, just unfortunate.

A lot of the start problems would have been eliminated if Pcars had a text window where you could type messages. At the moment we have the PSN messaging, in which information can get missed, and here on GTP - which is split into two threads - where again information can get missed. So it's never entirely sure who's seen any relevant changes to procedures.

Perhaps Sick you could start a separate group PM here on GTP when there's important information that needs to be acknowledged by each driver. It would be much tidier than on the two threads where it might get lost in amongst other posts. A new PSN message might also be a possibility.

Or perhaps we should dig the mics out! It might be easy to control things.

Oh yes, the faster rated cars, A in this case, will always be placed at the front on random grids. I'd forgotten to mention this previously.

Talking about the PSN messages. I was thinking of making two new separate threads - one for Monday and one for Wednesday - so that it keeps them separate. Not everyone races on both days. I was also thinking of a third thread for general talk and banter just to keep the racing threads cleaner. Any thoughts? I didn't want to do it if no one required it.

Quite enjoyed last night as well, though only practised on half the course:dunce: So was getting the hang of it towards the end.
Starts may be just after the sharp left hand turn, so all get away, see what anyone else thinks.:)

Unfortunate that the 240z is in a different class to the BMW.

To be honest, it might be an idea to scrap the 240. Annoying for those of us that chose it, especially as I actually got a chance to practise the car and track on Sunday for once. Would much rather that than have any success be put down to having an unfair advantage at the start though.

What was your highest starting position Andreas? I was always conscious of looking out for you coming steaming up on me in my mirror, especially in the last race when I got all crossed up over a crest and did a lovely pirouette down the road. Actually remembered to clutch in to keep the engine running for once though!

Only other way I can see of doing it is to have a qualifying run where we set off at intervals and log the time at the end (minus interval gaps). Setting up the grid at the start of the races would be a nightmare though.

Thanks for the helpful comments guys!

After reading the comments I have decided to try the following changes for next week - for this Monday Series only:

One make - BMW 2002 SW only
Start - Go on Green! But please give each other plenty of space - especially approaching corners.
Results - Your best 2 results from each round will be scored.
