Speaking of including all GT Sport content, do we know the location of Special Stage Route X? Has that been deciphered from the GT7 screenshot of North America? It certainly wasn't on the European or Japanese maps. I just checked the list and apparently it's presumed to be in North America but I don't see on GT7's map where it could possible be.

I'd have to check, but I think there's six possible fictional track locations - SSRX, Northern Isle, Blue Moon Bay, Trial Mountain, Colorado Springs, and Fisherman's Ranch - and six spare dots. It's basically a matter of opinion where they go, though Colorado Springs is probably near Colorado Springs, and Blue Moon Bay is supposedly a fictional Bristol.

Are you mixing up Blue Moon Bay and Northern Isle? Northern Isle is the Bristol knockoff; Blue Moon Bay is a Pocono knockoff.

Speaking of which, it's unfortunate that they couldn't or haven't mapped the real life tracks. It's not like they're particularly complex but I suppose it would be easier to just make one up. That said, the real life tracks have quite a strong history, nearly equal to Daytona's.

I'd like to know if the online penalty system has been overhauled.

In my view, a shared penalty for contact is better than the current system's arbitrary decisions. After all, there's a reason most (all?) of the other online-focused racing games don't try to assign blame when dealing with contact penalties.

In fact, I firmly believe that doing such "Air Crash Investigation" level analyses algorithmically is nigh impossible (and if you're smart enough to devise such an algorithm, you probably wouldn't waste your incredibly valuable skills on programming video games.)

i want to know more about the sound quality differences. are we talking entirely different (worse?) engine sounds on PS4 compared to PS5? I hope it's not that extreme like it was with FH2 on Xbox 360 and the then Xbox one.

Probably. I get dizzy after so many lefts.
If you prefer turning right you can run Blue Moon Bay in the clockwise direction too.

Maybe it's cheaper than licensing the real track? Cause the GT series has also had unlicensed Monaco for a while. They've had several real oval tracks in the game already, and Daytona is coming back to GT7. I'm sure we'll also see Indianapolis return too. There was also the Motegi Super Speedway but I doubt that one's coming back anytime soon.

A really competitive AI would be a dream...
It would, but I'm still incredibly sceptical. They've made claims about improved AI many times in the past, yet here we are.

How close the AI can come to human lap times? That was the focus of development up until GT4. Now that has been successful to some degree, an attempt has been made to express more human-like behaviour in GT5.
When asked about the new built-from-the-ground-up AI code and the option for car damage, Yamauchi indicated that CPU controlled drivers are aware of the new penalties for playing "bumper cars." With up to sixteen cars on the track, they need to be aware of each and the danger of spinning out when one comes in contact with another.
With PS4 we have a lot of memory available: we’ll be able to exploit it easily, inserting elements that we had to force or withheld on PS3.

There will be better graphics, better physics engine, smarter AI and more online options.”
GTP: The artificial intelligence of the other drivers, will that see any changes or improvements in GT6?

KY: “Like the sounds, that is something that we’re rebuilding for GT6. It won’t be the same as GT5.

“In addition to the things we’ve already announced, like the new rendering engine, the new physics, suspension, and handling modeling, the AI and the sound simulation is something that we are working on.

“As with pretty much everything in the game, we are going back to the basics and rebuilding it. We don’t know when the results of all that effort will come out yet, but of course, it’s not going to be the same as GT5.
And so on. I'd actually forgotten about that first quote, what an absolutely laughable claim that was/is.

It's a definitely a case of actions speak louder than words on this matter, so let's wait and see.

The jist of what I've gathered is that GT7 on PS4 is basically a better version GT Sport, and a complete o.g GT title. If it runs 1080p 60fps... So no need to rush out and buy a PS5. You know, I'm actually happy about this, but I can see why PS5 users would be malding.

When GTS wore itself out on me after 3 years I made the switch to iRacing on PC and it immediately checked all the boxes for what I wanted from an online competitive race title. So I'd keep racing iRacing as my main and jump into GT7 for a bit of fun much in the same way I jump into GT5 and soon GT6 every so often.

Now I can just skip buying a PS5 all together, take the money I've been saving and get a DD wheel base and hold off on the PS5 for another year or 2. I'm happy.

At least they're committing to saying the AI will be improved! I already pulled the trigger on a gaming PC (and VR headset) for sim racing a couple months ago and haven't played GT Sport since. I'll buy this if the AI is actually decent, and it runs well and looks good on a PS4. I really can't tolerate competitive racing in Gran Turismo anymore, but if the single player content is good then I'll play it. It's the only type of career mode I like in racing sims.

GT7 might be the first GT (in a while) that I won't preorder. I'll need to see the real difference between the PS4 and PS5 versions before making a decision. There's no doubt that I will get the game eventually, just that I need to see how different those 2 versions are.

Also, I really hope the AI gets improved and stops running me off the track. And that they add more cars (Cadillac V-series, Alfa Romeo Giulia, KIA Stinger, etc) post launch, if not before.

Yes, I know. Let's find out if it's true soon...

Its still odd to not have rt on a next gen console...
Part of me agrees with your sentiment. But for one, I think I'll side towards Kaz's use of the technology. It's more useful in TV replays, where you it might add a touch more realism.

If you are thrashing down a track at 100MPH+ looking for breaking points to appear, the fact that a car slightly ahead to the right, has the reflection of the car slightly ahead on the left on his body panels is little use to anyone. But expensive to compute.

If the game launched with VR support, and you could turn your head to the left when overtaking a car, and see the shortest reflection of yourself in the opponent glass which shows your helmet design, it might look cool the first time you see it. But beyond that. it's far more useful in other genres. The detail at 1080P would be very meh IMHO too. At 4K it would be worth it, but the framerate of the game would tank.

So for now, I don't mind its absence, I'd rather have fluid gameplay locked to 60Hz. I'd rather see 75Hz support at 1080P than raytracing. Far better experience for gameplay.

Fun fact: The first time I met Kazunori, I asked him what - given the resources to do so - original track from GT he'd build in real life.

He said Deep Forest, after actually quite a bit of thinking, and I sort of told him that Trial Mountain was better.

Good to see he's on my wavelength now :D

It's nice we have some new, and expansion about features. I think porting all content from Gran Turismo Sport won't help long term fans rush into GT7 though.

Let's be honest a moment, GTS wasn't a huge game. Not helped/failed by the promise of much more content that did not arrive. So to basically port that stuff over to another new game, when many people have become tired of it over the years since launch is a bit crazy IMHO. An own goal.

Yes, it would be quicker to get that content into GT7 than make new content, but many may struggle to see the value in wanting to be forced to spend even more years driving the same old/tired content. I certainly fall into this category. I just hope a vast number of tracks have been updated to wet versions tbh, because if it hasn't - I'm going to be quite worried.

I also hope replays have been upgrade to 60FPS for next gen, 30fps would be a joke on next gen PS5 hardware.

All of this said, I think/hope that the best news is yet to be uncovered.

:)

This is why I haven't even been excited to get a new console and bought a gaming PC instead. Computing keeps increasing every generation, but most games take advantage of that power with higher-fidelity graphics and little else. Sure, better graphics will always be nice, but visual improvements will only plateau and become less and less impressive as they approach photorealism. So visual improvements continue to be more expensive and the returns become less noticable. I'd rather see that extra power used for actual features than visuals. I haven't really seen any next-gen game that I thought was worth buying a console for. They're all the same sort of games that look slightly better.

Deathloop looks cool! But when I see gameplay of it I don't think "Yeah, that definitely is a next-gen game that current consoles can't handle".

Maybe somebody will bring it up in the future but I'm surprised that PD seems to have forgotten about Red Rock Valley. I'm sure all of us here love that track and I have a feeling a revamp of it could be pretty interesting. The GT2 version was basically a bigger, more complicated High Speed Ring but it could be made to stand out a bit more.

Unless they really surprise us, GT4 will forever hold the crown for track selection. Some absolute masterpieces in that game, especially the city courses.

Fine, fine... I retire what I said last thread. Kaz doesn't speak out of his bum. Oh and the A.I.? Anything that'll try to avoid collision when soundly possible I can deal with.

When it comes to GT4 tracks, El Capitan is the best. It's already set in a real locale so it should fit right in. Red Rock Valley is cool too. Would be fun to do NASCAR on there. But the only fictional track I'm hoping for is Grand Valley. It's the flagship fantasy track of the series.

Cant wait for GT7 !

But looks like its more a GT Sport 2.0

And AI was super-slow in GT Sport
Not always super-slow. I mean, in some events you pass them and they suddenly get to keep up with you, for example, I had a Polyphony Digital tuner muscle cars in the Stars and Stripes single-player event (Sorry, I haven't played GTS in a while.) increased to nearly 940 HP yet the AI which pretends to go up to N600 and one of them has the same car and is super-slow until I pass them and then they stick to the road like a player could never do and they get nearly infinite speed. EDIT: And I wasn't crashing unless they'd dive-bomb me!

EDIT 2: Also on a more general note, I hope the AI won't rubberband as much if not at all but still in most cases be competitive.
