Most Useless Things in GT4

Well, so far "too many Japenese cars / Skyline / NSX variants" seems to be in the lead, with "car wash / oil change animations" a close second. The five second penalty isn't exactly popular either.

If I'm honest, the amount of said Skylines, Imprezas, NSXs and Evos don't bother me it's more the minimal amount of other cars that is what makes it seem a bit off. If there were more cars from other countries and manufacturers it wouldn't be so bad.

Time trial mode.
I am sure it used to give you a table of laps with splits, highlighting the best sectors.

Gear ratios in the set up screen.
In GT(one) you had a really easy to use graph to help you otu rather than the Postage stamp sized on in the set up area with rather lacking axis unit markings.

But Digital-sama really nailed it it the looking for small problems and missing the great game.

Human nature to pick on the weaker links?

I've said it once, and I'll say it again: The analog and digital speedometer.

Just remove the analog one and stop cluttering my screen.

@Bone, I have never seen a triple post before!

Ooops. I'm not used to the GT4 forum yet.

See, I like the analog gauges...they're easy to see out of the corner of your eye...very useful when braking from 150 mph into a tight corner where you'll need to be going no faster than 60. With the digital, you're forced to read your speed..but it's awkward to sit there and read a number, even just for a tenth of a second.

I don't see why they didn't just have the chase camera view HUD (with nothing more then gear, speed and an acceleration bar in the corner) for each view

At least there's an option that lets you take some info away (like the map and some numbers) while you drive.

Most useless thing in my opinion is the shift indicator; I don't need a big red blinking number telling me when to shift, I can do it on my own. ;)

Oh yeah. Like <Spike> I don't notice it anymore. Half the time it winds up telling me I should be in a totally different gear than I choose. I mean, I'm opening up to criticism here but who sits there and goes uh...the computer says I should be in 1st gear...guess I better downshift quick :dunce:

The downshift indicator doesn't tell ME when to shift, he tells me how hard the next turn is. Thats a good thing IMO, maybe PD should put a turn-off button in GT5, but I like this feature.

Instead of trashing things you dont like you should wish more choices and off/on options!

Uh, okay. Hey, I was just being sarcastic. I realize lots of people (especially newbs) probably benefit from the shift indicator, but if I said it like that..it wouldn't be sarcastic anymore.

A red blinking light makes you a worse driver? Can't say I notice it any more myself lol
yes because it makes me worry less about memorizing tracks and braking zones. It's a very difficult to ignore crutch for me.

The shift indicator is nice for your first 10-15 laps around the 'Ring, but then it's not needed for many other courses. It doesn't always tell you when you need to downshift, and erratically second-guesses other corners (4th...4th...4th...NO WAIT!...I meant 2nd!).

It does seem to adapt to your car after a few laps, sometimes it realizes that you can use 5th instead of 4th, if you hadn't needed 4th a few laps beforehand. But other times, it stubborly tells you to use a gear you don't use.

GT4 does allow for more customization than before, but there's still more that can be tailored to each player's wishes.

Post #200 here! :) Keep it up guys! :)👍

Anyway, I use the shift indicator more as a guide for severity of corners, as NISMO_SKYLINE mentioned. I like it at first when I'm getting used to a car/track combo, but then it gets useless. I don't find it annoying or distracting, but it's there to help.

I think the adapting to the car is more or less the tires warming up. As your tires warm, you get more traction, and therefore, can take each turn more quickly.

Nope, it detects the situation of the tires, warm tires = turns faster.

I don't know...the shift indicator is one of those things I've never used ever.

well i kind of like it, when it blinks to tell me to slow down, i know that i need to wait about ten seconds and then slow down....hahahahaha.

For a typical 'bronzish-silver' driver like me the indicator is very useful :)
When I know a track it becomes less important, as others have said too.

Yes I agree with Ilex. Sometimes you fail to correctly memorise a track and a blind corner sometimes proves to need that indicator. As or the erratic blinking like "4th no no I meant 3... ummm no let's make it 2" actually means to tell you to gradually downshift instead of ramming a 250 km/h car into 1st from 6th gear... Try that with your real car and see what happens... :scared:

The Daihatsu Midget '63 and the Subaru 360. Just the worst

Woah, wait a minute! Those are perfect cars! I can beat any LMP car with ease in my '63 Midget!

Well... that's not exactly true... :guilty:
