Motorstorm PS3 - Mega Thread

No no, not me I meant to say the one they showed on G4. My lazy azz did not pre order or wait in line. I was going to go the WestBend,Wi Wal Mart that made headlines with the idiotic "150 man race for 10 seats" but changed my mind I make 16.09 an hour and decided to work instead.

I may wait at another Wal mare tuesday night reading another shippment is coming Wednesday of Thursday see i dont have to work Thurs or friday.

But back to Motorstorm. The lighting engine they uses is amazing videos dont do it justice. On TV it looks better than many of the PS3 titles.

NBA 07, on the other hand, looks like all the players are laminated. It's kind of messed up...

I have Motorstorm running on my PS3 right now. It's going to be one hell of a PS3 game. The motion effects make it look extremely realistic. In my opinion, I wish the game was more Burnout-like. The crashes are just awesome.

Is there something I'm missing, here? Because every PS3 kiosk I've tried had the same horrible framerate (<20fps) and slowdown issues when I played the Motorstorm demo, which is odd, because the game looks no better than a 360 launch title.
Go play with your wii.

Anyway, I managed to get hold of Motorstorm myself today at Best Buy, and I don't share Wolfe's disdain.

At first the L2 and R2 buttons were slippery, alarmingly so, but I adjusted to them very quickly and they never did slip off. However I do share the call to Sony to make them concave in a future revision, like triggers.

The graphics are incredible, maybe like Gears of War on the 360, but FAR better than any 360 game from a few months ago, and this is the demo mind you, not the improved downloadable. Even with the basic older build, it was a blast to play and then some. All the views were cool, but using trailercam till you got used to the insane course is advisable. Even in the basic build, the physics are great, and you can feel the track well, no rumble required.

Speed? Dude, if you think you're going to be doing 170mph around this track, go play with your... you know, and your happy substances. This isn't the game for you, nor is any remotely realistic game. It's plenty fast enough. In fact, it's probably faster than you can expect to be doing around courses like these. Go faster? Sure, and eat a lot of boulder and cliff.

I think the survey will indicate a lot of sales for this game. Even though early on I wasn't interested in this game other than a souvenir, I was sold when I saw the new trailers, and I'm twice as sold now.

This is an off-road racing game. I think it's pretty impossible to see cars handle like F1 cars off-road with speeds of about 170 mph. I did kind of like that you could swap vehicles in the MotorStorm demo in case you weren't happy with the ones the game offers you at first. I swapped one of the trucks to race a rally car. I swapped a dirt bike with a buggy. I thought the buggies were exceptional to handle. The MotorStorm video I saw had all kinds of crazy crashes. Can you imagine getting some mad air from a motorcycle... all to crash something head on... and the bike rider flies into a sign... and breaks the sign? It's wicked stuff, man! It will strangely hook you. I actually liked the game from what I've played.

Its interesting to see the different levels of expectations that are here on GTP. I was blown away with the original motorstorm trailer back in 05 and still contiune to be amazed with what they can do with these games. This game seems to be about 50/50 with people saying its awsome or it looks like crap. I wonder what the "crap" people are compairing it to? I saw this game for the first time on an HDTV at target this weekend and holy smoke!!! The colors are brighter and crisper, the detail is unlike anything I have ever seen. It makes me wonder if the ones who think this game is not living up to their expectations are looking at it on an HD set up. I would guess maybe the fanboy syndrome might be blinding some people. I can't explain those who don't appreciate the effort in this game.

Cause it's not on 360:dopey: :sly:

Here's an interesting interview on IGN: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/748/748295p1.html

IGN UK: When I first saw the demo of MotorStorm at E3 '05 I never thought you'd manage to get close to it with the actual game, yet you have…

Martin Kenwright: I don't think anyone thought we could do it! But I've been in the industry for 20 years and nothing we included in the trailer was implausible, which is why I always knew it was possible. Besides, if there's something in the trailer that isn't in this game you can bet it will be in the next one! As for last E3, it was almost like the best and the worst for us. We were killing ourselves to create a great demo, especially after setting the benchmark so high the year before and, for technical reasons, the week before, we missed the deadline for the [Sony pre-E3] presentation. We hold our hands up for that. But we got it on the show floor and the irony was the excitement went from zero to hero - when everyone saw it they thought it was great.

We thought let's do something we enjoy, to create something memorable and make a game the likes of which people had never seen before. That was the whole ethos behind MotorStorm, to create the superlatives: the best, the biggest, the widest and the deepest. We wanted to create tracks that were on top of giant mesas two miles up, but also in the mud at the bottom of the deepest canyons.

The way the team has pulled the game together in the last six months is incredible - it's better than Liverpool's comeback in Istanbul [when the Reds came back from 3-0 down to beat AC Milan on penalties in the 2005 Champions' League Final]. But at the end of the day we've tried our best to create the best we can so now's it's up to the marketplace.

And this game is not even out yet.👍

Do you comprehend that the trailer is a MOVIE?! Its fake...not real...pretend...hollywood magic!
Yes I comprehend. However do you realize how different that looks compared to the final version of the game???

Yes I comprehend. However do you realize how different that looks compared to the final version of the game???

yeah...and I also realize that the final version of the game is running off of a computer processing millions of calculations a time. Not a rendered movie that has no life or real time movement. There is give and take here and understanding that the movie was made long before they had a PS3 to work with shows me only that the game play is remarkably well done.

Sure, it's a movie, but Sony tried to pass it off as in-game.

As for the game itself, I played it again last night at Target, and the framerate was drastically improved. It was definitely very fun. However, my only qualm with the gameplay itself is controller related. After using the uber comfy Wiimote + Nunchuk and the X360 pad, the Sixaxis is just... bleh. Plus I miss the rumble, especially in games like this. If I could use even the wired 360 controller with the PS3, assuming games like this had rumble support, Motorstorm would get an A. But right now it stands as a B-.

When it comes to controllers, it's all about personal taste, I play FIFa 2007 on 360 at Compusa yesterday, and I don't like the 360 controller at all.

Wii? meh...I personally don't like it.

Yeah, I guess it comes down to personal taste. I've seen people swear by the DualShock, and I've also seen people say that it's just crap.

Sure, it's a movie, but Sony tried to pass it off as in-game.

REALLY? Some one said that it was in game? Were dev kits out at that time? How could anyone have considered in game? I guess I understood from the beginning that it was what they were hoping the game would look like. I have not been disapointed so far. Each time I see a new clip I see a noticable improvement.

It love how people play THIS game, and it makes them want a PS3, yet 1up acts like this game is a POS and no one will ever care about it.

So many people are convinced that this game is something to be wowed by, yet so many sites (well 1up basically) are bashing the hell out of it. It amuses me...

@ CAMARO - Yet this game looks better than any 360 game as far as lighting and particle effects goes, and is a ton more fun than nearly every racing game available on the 360 (and looks better too). The only game I can think of as far as racing goes that was as fun was Burnout, but the NFS titles and PGR fail IMO.

@ DUCK - I personally like the Sixaxis, but again, you talk about the trigers, and I have no trouble, as do none of my friends. It's all in your grip I suppose, ease up a little and you won't slip, it's actually very comfy IMO. I could have done with concave triggers, but still, it's all the same and works very well. The games aren't THAT intense...just ease up.

Also, can we get the name changed, since obviously someone has jealousy issues. THe game blows so much out of the water, but someone is being a child. I'll create a new one if that's the way children are going to behave.

Hehe.. you gotta see how 1uP review Gear of War (Hey, I got nothing against this game, it's a great game, I know): This game haS this problem, that problem..ect, and BAM, 10/10

Camaro would agree because OMG CO-OP....old feature, tired gameplay, and a boring multiplayer.

Seriously how many times can these Gears chumps play the same maps with the same weapons with the same modes? There is NO variety, it's tiresome. The same thing over and over and over. Not even a lot of custom options during multiplayer, it's the weakest excuse for a multiplayer experience I've ever seen. MGO has more options for online than Gears of War...it's pathetic. Yet hte visuals (or lack there of IMO, they fake a lot of things) carry the game over and over again. And because of that we have children in this thread changing the thread title because they can't (or won't) buy a PS3. Motorstorm blows so many games out of the water graphically as far as lighting, particle effects, physics, AI...tons...but of course, this chump hasn't even played it...freaking ridiculous. Children I swear...

I like this shot:tup:
motorstorm-20061201080047778.jpg

I'll reserve my judgement to when I actually play it. Unlike my XBox 360 owning chums, none of my friends or relatives even bothered getting a PS3.

I vote for a title name change. from what I've played and seen it has surpassed what "I" expected and theres a lot more game to be revealed. And its far far beyond what EA's Next Gen madden trailer from Feb05 turned out to be. Still it sold tons and people like(for some reason)

^^^^Sreen is off the chain.

Oh 360's d-pad is ubber crap. cant be the best controller if the d-pad is garbage which it is. Wii mote: never used it but i cant imagine 4-5 hour gaming sessions using it for whats it was designed for. Wii elbow? Broken Tv's, Broken windows? Broken friends?

Sixaxis' L2 R2 feel wierd but i guess I'd have to get used to it and the d-pad is better than the DS2's.

I'm gonna have to say the 360 pad and the Dual Shock are a toss-up in egronomics. The 360 pad fits better, but the d-pad is in the wrong place and sucks. The Dual-Shock has better button placement and a few better buttons, but the controller isn't shaped as well (and I can't imagine th SA feeling radically different shape wise).

lol i came in here expecting to get flamed for loving how this game is turning out and re-kindling my want for a PS3 but obvesiouly not ... someone needs to change the title, please...

I liked how to tried to make it sound like everyone is out to get Motorstorm, yet AFAIK, only 1Down is trying to stand out and bash it all the time (and yes I saw the stuff in the parenthesis). Not everyone is evil.

Most Wanted rocks, but then again I played halfway through the PS2 version, and the whole way through in the original Xbox and X360 versions. Carbon is just bleh, though, but I'll buy it a year from now when I can get it for like $20.

PGR3 is fun and has as much potential as you want it to have. Personally, the abundance of load times, the obscene difficulty of Gold Medal challenges, and the overrated online has me keeping it on my shelf.

Burnout Revenge is really fun, but I'm not a huge fan of the series, so I traded it in at GameStop.

Test Drive Unlimited rocks and is IMO the best racer on the 360.

I guess it's just preference. And I'm not putting some Vulcan Death Grip on the Sixaxis.

I agree.

One of my problems with 1UP (or 1down), and many review sites for that matter, is that they always use solid numbers instead of, say, 9.3/10. If GoW really deserves, say, 9.6/10 (this isn't my personal opinion, I haven't played the game), they round up to 10/10, when it really doesn't deserve that.

Could someone post a link to that video?

Which reminds me... do tire tracks on the road actually affect handling?

I do agree though, it looks good.

Oh 360's d-pad is ubber crap. cant be the best controller if the d-pad is garbage which it is.
I agree that the D-Pad isn't very good... but who the hell uses the D-Pad? I mean seriously. The only time I use it is if in games like Need for Speed or TDU it lets you visit messages, map, etc. That's it.
Wii mote: never used it but i cant imagine 4-5 hour gaming sessions using it for whats it was designed for. Wii elbow? Broken Tv's, Broken windows? Broken friends?
The part I bolded invalidates your ignorant statement about the Wii. Again.

LaBounti, go to a GameStop and try out the Wii before making any more ridiculous judgments. You're just as bad as Solid Lifters saying "Resistance sucks" when he hasn't played the game.

I'm gonna have to say the 360 pad and the Dual Shock are a toss-up in egronomics. The 360 pad fits better, but the d-pad is in the wrong place and sucks. Agreed. Though IMHO the better shape trumps the better button placements. If you're going to do a 5 hour gaming session you don't want your hands to be hurtin' afterwards.

The part I bolded invalidates your ignorant statement about the Wii. Again.

What ignorant statment? If I cant see my self doing something I cant. Nuff said. I didn't say anything bad about it. You are defending nothing. Again I did not judge anything, search my post not once did I say the Wiimote sux. Waaay too defensive..... Only things thats ridiculous is how quck you are to judge me and take my words out of context.

As for 360's D-pad. XBL Arcade for one. I'd rather use a d-pad for some of the games. And not evevry game needs 2 analogue sticks.

Eidt: Madden Target renders VS real game http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=15383&type=wmv The animation looks to have come from the ps2 version seeing it on a TV the differences are greater.

Duċk;2501467
Which reminds me... do tire tracks on the road actually affect handling?

Yes, they effect the handling. i.e. you can't get grip to turn as easily, your car will bounce all over the place, and bikes, oh god to bikes have a field day....it's very very fun and during the 3rd or 4th laps it get's VERY interesting.

I tried it at Target and it looked like PS2 material AT BEST. Nothing like the pre release vids I've seen. I was very dissappointed and I still hope to go it's the game and not the system.

DWA
I tried it at Target and it looked like PS2 material AT BEST.

I wouldn't go that far, but it was certainly underwhelming. The actual release of the game must be a million times better or something, what with the way some people are ranting about it.
