Motorstorm PS3 - Mega Thread

It's called envy. Most of the people who play it and say it sucks own a 360, plain and simple, and they won't own a PS3. Since the 360's off road arcade racers areeee....no where to be found, and look extremely boring, they find the need to bash this one.

I don't own a 360 and would possibly own a PS3 if it cost less than $300, and even if I did own the system, the only way I could possibly want this game is if the final release is completely different from that godforsaken poor excuse for a demo I played.

That having been said. The game looks, runs, and plays better than most racing titles on the 360. PGR3 essentially plays like PGR2, and TDU is garbage.

If by "most" you mean "none" then I would agree with you. PGR3 does play like PGR2 (actually a bit worse), but it's loads more fun than the demo of this game. It also looks just as good and runs faster.

TDU is flawed (as all Atari games are), but it's an amazing effort for a company that's normally so lackluster, and it's really fun for a while, until it gets old...and even after it gets old, it's still better than the demo of this game. It also looks just as good, if not a bit better, and runs faster.

Import Tuner Challenger, like TDU, is flawed (as all Genki games are, like Atari), but again, it's an amazing effort for a company that's normally so lackluster. In fact, I'd say its only truly fatal flaw is its small car list and truncated highway compared to earlier Shutokou Battle games. And it's still better than the demo of this game. It also looks almost as good, and runs faster.

All the NFS title are terrible, no questions asked.

They're definitely disappointing, but not as disappointing as this demo was. (Sensing a pattern yet?)

This game, however (minus the ungodly slow motion I can't stand) is much more FUN which is what matters. Imagine playing with 15 other people online, crashing, jumping, and bumping your friends around the tracks going for the big W.

I'd rather not, considering the game chugs along like an overloaded moped with only one player and one truck/car/bike on the screen.

I hate to say it, but the games on 360 right now have poor damage, bland gameplay, and crappy physics. This game is MENT to feel arcade like, and fun, which is pulls off wonderfully. Not to mention the AI is unmatched for racing titles right now.

Huh? I can't say anything about the AI from my experience, but the physics in the Motorstorm demo are neither realistic nor fun, the gameplay attempts to be arcadey but is just slow and boring, and the graphics are still no more impressive than what the XB360 can deliver.

I've said it before, and I'll repeat -- the Motorstorm demo at PS3 kiosks in electronics stores is GARBAGE. If the real game is better, then that's great (although judging from the mixed response that the final game seems to be getting, I doubt it would impress me regardless). Just don't be surprised when people come in here telling you that they played the demo and it sucked balls.

Do you EVER read any posts in this thread dude? EVERYONE WHO OWNS A PS3 (note: NOT YOU) has stated that the downloadable UPDATED demo runs at a CONSISTENT 30fps, with motion blur that smashes what PGR3 tried to accomplish. WIth damage, with 15 cars, with the AI set, with dust and particle effects (and HDR to boot).

But of course, using your eyes and 5 minutes of your time to discover these facts would be WAY too much trouble right?

Silence from you = greatly appreciated.

And saying that horrible games are "a great effort" is awesome. Let's make excuses for them just so we can bash on another game right? SWEET DEAL! GO YOU!

You know, I'd almost be with you, if you didn't post useless crap like this.

Here's a thought: If it doesn't involve the PS3, don't comment on it. Because unless I'm getting the entire premise of the game wrong, all Motorstorm is is a pretty 1nsane (very ironic considering you felt the need to remind us how shallow the industry is becoming due to graphics and how GoW did nothing new). And your seemingly shameless bashing of GoW in the 360 forums and pretty much everything on the Wii tells me that if it isn't on the PS3, it isn't worthy of your purview. So don't include in your posts.

Right, so I say he should read more, you get your panties in a bunch.

Other people insult me, and you have nothing to say. Sweet stuff bro.

As for the Wii, I have one in my apt right now. I also own Excite Truck, Zelda, and Madden. Madden is more fun on the Wii, in comparison to the PS3. But, naturally, since I didn't *post* it, I must be crazy right? He's made references to Excite Truck before, and how motorstorm "robbed" them. So, I'm poking fun at how bad the game is.

As for PS3, I could say how bad RR7 is (IMO) or how abysmal Gundam is (so bad it's like the ring, you'll die in 7 days). Or how terribly boring Untold Legends and Genji are right? But naturally, since I don't feel the need to talk about these terrible games, since I want to discuss good games that I play with other people, you must thing I'm totally PRO everything on PS3 right?

Get your head out of the clouds man, come back to reality. I could go on and on about things I don't like about the PS3, but what good does that do me? Complaining get's you no where in life, especially for no reason.

Neat. I wouldn't expect you to scour a 13-page thread about Excite Truck to find a bit of information like that, so I don't see why it's so pertinent that I do so, especially when I'm specifically referring to the store demo -- I dare you to find one place where I made a judgment on the final product based on my demo experience.

And saying that horrible games are "a great effort" is awesome. Let's make excuses for them just so we can bash on another game right? SWEET DEAL! GO YOU!

I didn't say they were horrible. You did. I think they're fun, but flawed.

He's made references to Excite Truck before, and how motorstorm "robbed" them.

Indeed. Excite Truck's temperature gauge gameplay element appeared before Motorstorm's did, iirc, and the whole idea dates back to Excitebike anyway.

Wolfe: Final build gameplay, notice how smooth it is? Good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TN8rjevi7JA&NR

Also notice: Dirt build up, mud build up, mud slinging, rag doll physics, lots of car bits, agressive AI, varied tracks, ONLINE PLAY for FIFTEEN players.

:) hooray!

If that's what the updated demo is like, then good for you. We've come full circle back to my post at the top of this page, which is actually little more than a rephrasing of the same point that I've expressed in every single post I've made in this thread -- the in-store demo sucks, and the actual game might not. Isn't it funny how all that anger gets you nowhere?

Edit: You know what? I think I'll just finish the rest of this:

Jeremy Ricci: "Blahblahblah you're stupid go play wii fanboy blahblah."
Wolfe: "Agh! I'm choking on all of these words that were crammed down my throat!"

Anyway, have fun with your demo, and forgive me for even insinuating that Motorstorm could be anything but perfection.

See what I mean!

actually this video highlights my point......

If the PS3 is ment to be all mighty... why are renders like this still not achieveable?? I just dont get it!

http://zero_.kotaku.com/gaming/sony/motorstorm-e3-2005-vs-reality-218761.php

The bit in the original E3 2005 vid where a hummer looking vehicle is like smashing along side another car whilst cutting through tons of mud was the bit that sold it for me..... sadly thats never going to be in game :(

I'm sorry, I dare you to find any other off road title that even attempts to have deformable terrain and mud. Because MotorStorm is the only one you'll find. Even the next Colin McRae doesn't try to do it. Please PLEASE go find something better.

Again, without the "renders" you wouldn't be disappointed, you'd be amazed...it's ridiculous.

Sony's "unofficial" blog visits Evolution Studios, Motorstorm's developers. Watch here: http://threespeech.com/blog/?p=208

This game is going to be a system seller. There's nothing like watching an AI biker go flying of it's bike and right smack into a 20-foot billboard. :)

The vid i saw of a guy on a bike wiping out then getting smashed by a truck from off screen was the mosty brutal video I've seen. I could almost feel the impact.

I really wonder how many tracks are going to be included in the final release. Hopefully there'll be some tracks running through the muddy country side or something like that:sly: . Because it's kinda boring if there are only tracks around the canyon you know:dopey:

Most definitely. If I get a PS3, this game will be in my shopping cart with GT5 and Lair.

Yeah, I hope so too. If there would be a point-to-point track where it's raining, it's muddy, there's 15 other vehicles on the track, it's based on a terrain with tons of trees and a few cliffs thrown in, that would be so awesome.

Did you guys see all the parts flying around during the crashes? I hope GT5 takes advantage of the Ps3 making their car models built from actual parts like that. They can each have their own characteristics and stress levels so it could become possible to blow engines and have damage.

Regardless, Motorstorm will be in the cart with my ps3 when the time comes.

Well we know already from KY and pictures that PD is modeling all their cars with individual parts, panels, bumpers, even the fuel lid etc. So it may just turn out quite nice.

This game will fill a off-road racing need quite nicely I suspect. The demo's cool, but I can imagine that the finished complete game will be quite entertaining. ;)

DWA
Looks better but still more like Burnout.

And what's wrong with that? Burnout is amazingly fun. Basically this is a high flying, high action, over the top off road racing game. The AI has a ton of different personalities, some being aggressive, some running away from you, some doing both. It makes for a fun game experience, where as in other racers, both current and next gen, they AI simply finishes, and they *might* give you a love tap. The AI in this game is pretty impressive in comparison.

Nothing... the only problem I have with burnout is how unrealistic it is which make it get old after about 10 min. I love the concept of getting points for creating the most damage though.

edit: ignore this rant, as it's not entirely directed at you, I'm just growing tired of the general opinion in reference to racing games and how "unrealistic" they can be. Race only means you get from point a to point b first, not that it be entirely realistic the entire time. Sometimes fun is more important.

Give me a break, you probably know so little about "reality" and driving it is unfathomable how inaccurate your statement is. This whole "it's not realistic" spin that so many GT fans put on other racing games is retarded.

Burnout is an ARCADE racer. The point is to cause damage and come in first place. Not to simulate real racing. If that's boring to YOU, whatever, but the game is by no means a bad game, nor does it suck. In fact, I'd be willing to bet if it looked as good as GT4 did, it would have demolished GT4 in sales.

GT sells well because it's accessible and pretty, it's far from a "good" simulator. PC Simulators are realistic, so please, refrain from talking about "realism" in racing titles, especially when they are supposed to be arcade racers.

The only reason said unrealistic is after about 10 min of going 250-300 mph or whatever it was and then turning on the Nawz and "bumping" someone off the road or getting bumped off the road and getting "minor damage" and continuing on it gets kind of old. I realize it's Arcade, I'm just saying it gets as old as somethin like GTA fast.

Like you said... With something like the GT series the point ISN'T to crash the point is to be able to drive. That's why there isn't any damage. :dopey:

I think there's maybe 1 car in burnout that tops over 250? The rest are like 190-200.

As far as whatever it is you're talking about with game modes, there are multiple, which I'm sure you know. Playing Burnout Revenge online is extremely fun, because I can race, crash, and fight with other people, instead of just racing. I enjoy that.

But, again, if arcade racers aren't your thing, I wouldn't expect you to enjoy this...but don't say it's not impressive when it really is.

...but don't say it's not impressive when it really is.

I don't know about impressive but pretty maybe yeah. :dopey:

Same could be said about NFS:U I suppose.

Either way back to Motorstorm. It seems like the idea of it was they were trying to blend arcade fun game play with realism of how things look but it ended up being more towards just arcade.

I'd like to see an offroad racing title that looks better than MotorStorm and offers deformable terrain, real time collective mud, and damage (with 15 racers on track).

Please?

Still waiting laides and gentlemen.

Basically, people are complaining with absolutely NOTHING to show better. If the best out isn't good enough...then what are you REALLY doing playing videogames?

Personally, I think the lighting in this is unmatched on any game for any system right now.

With the flipping-the-bird thing in the game, do they actually raise that infamous finger? Or do they just wave their fist in the air?
