Jeff should have went into turn 3 right behind him and tried to loosen him up. Afraid that was probably his last chance to keep his Chase hopes alive...

It probably was. Unless Gordon can put on a show at Richmond, Busch will get the Wild Card spot.

Also, 3 things that I have learned from this race:

1. Darian Grubb is the greatest crew chief. Ever.

2. Jeff Gordon lacks aggressiveness, which he needs in order to make The Chase.

3. Denny Hamlin has to keep doing "The Dougie".

Sucks for Truex, would have liked to see him or Jeff win. Always been a fan of Gordon, hope he can win in Richmond next week and make the chase.

I don't mind Hamlin, don't see what makes him an idiot..Kyle Busch on the other hand..

Jeff Gordon had this race. But no, he had to be "Mr. Nice Guy" once again, screwing up his chances. He best not be like that at Richmond, or in future seasons for that matter, or his chances of Cup #5 are over.

NOW I can agree with you on that. *sigh*

Nope.

Nope.

Nope.

The top 10 are locked in. Kahne can only miss the chase if everything goes wrong (ironically, everything would also have to go wrong for Stewart in order for Kahne to fall out).

No. Top 9 are locked in. Stewart is guaranteed at least a wild card spot and Kahne is as well. Neither of them can fall out.

There's one spot left for grabs and it's either going to be Kyle or Jeff getting that spot.

Kyle is just too damn good at Richmond, I just don't see it happening for Jeff now. I am sorely disappointed at Gordon.

Kahne can fall out actually.

Only one way it happens and its ridiculously unlikely.

Gordon gets max points.
Busch gets 43 points.

Distance from Busch to Stewart is 23 points, meaning that if Stewart finishes 25th and Busch 2nd, Busch overtakes him.

If Kahne then manages to finish lower than 18th and Gordon wins, Gordon overtakes Kahne.

Gordon and Stewart would be in and Kahne would fall out.

Any way that Busch could get the wild card and Jeff gets in the top 10?

It's highly unlikely to happen.

All four of them are too good at Richmond. It would take some instances of seriously bad luck for your scenario to play out.

No that's actually impossible. Since Stewart would have to fall out, Busch would be behind both Stewart and Kahne. If Gordon makes it into the top 10, Busch is eliminated.

This isn't just a question for storm, but do the young Jeff Gordon fans even realize how great of a crew chief Ray Evernham was? Or do you all remember him as that guy that ran the show for the new dodge teams?

When I started following NASCAR, I knew Evernham as the guy that ran the Dodges. In fact, the first diecast I ever got was Mayfield's '03 car, even though I was a Gordon fan.

I did know he was one hell of a crew chief as well.

Evernham was better. Also I'd say Inman was up there as well. Reiser as well.

Here is the updated situation.

Stewart (locked in)
Kahne (currently in, can be knocked out if Gordon wins, Stewart falls out of the top 10, and Busch moves into the top 10).
Busch (currently in, a win locks him in).
Gordon (a win locks him in or gaining 13 points on Busch).
Edwards (needs a win, Gordon to finish no higher than 15th and Busch to finish no higher than 27th).
Menard (must win, Gordon to finish no higher than 25th and Busch no higher than 37th).
Ambrose (win locks him in)
Newman (win locks him in)
Logano (win locks him in)

Everyone after Logano in points is officially eliminated from the chase regardless of what they do. A win by any of those drivers (or any of the chase drivers) makes it a race between Busch and Gordon. Newman, Ambrose, and Logano are eliminated without a win.

Wild Card predictions (not including Kasey Kahne):

Kyle Busch: He's in. Richmond is his best track, and the other wild card contenders aren't good enough to beat him or win at Richmond.

Jeff Gordon: Out. Isn't aggressive enough and tends to struggle at Richmond. Needs to win since Busch will likely finish in the Top 5.

Carl Edwards: Out. Needs to win at Richmond and have both Busch and Gordon struggle, which is highly unlikely.

Everyone Else: Out.

Ray Evernham isn't even the greatest crew chief ever. He's definitely in the top 5, but not the #1.

I would put Chad Knaus, Dale Inman, Kirk Shelmerdine, and Leonard Wood near the top of any list of all-time top crew chiefs, obviously joining Ray Evernham. The current announcing trio of Larry McReynolds, Jeff Hammond, and Andy Petree certainly could make a decent argument to be somewhere on that list. Buddy Parrot and his family of crew chiefs would be honorable mentions.

So another weird thing happening this weekend. Pastrana in the 60 for RFR, which seems odd on few levels. I hope he can have a good run though!

On another note from that, I've been saying it for awhile. Bayne needs to get out of RFR, he is going to be strung along if he doesn't. The only reason he has full ride next year in NNS is because Ricky moved up and it goes to show Roush doesn't really care much about Bayne. You also have to ask why they had Mark and Matt both leave when everyone expecting them to retire there! Ricky is new golden boy there.

If JGR signs Bayne, then I guarantee Trevor will win a championship before Stenhouse.

Not really sure how actuate this article is. But anyway,

Logano signs with Penske for 2013
Joey Logano has reached a deal to drive for Penske Racing in 2013, a source close to the situation confirmed to ESPN.com on Monday.

An announcement that Logano will drive the No. 22 Ford or a third car for Penske could come as early as Tuesday.

Logano is being replaced in the No. 20 Toyota by Matt Kenseth, sources have said. The 2003 Sprint Cup champion is parting ways with Roush Fenway Racing at season's end.
