It's not actually Dirk the Mavs want with Williams. It's Howard. We need a younger, more athletic center & point guard (Beaubois still has things to learn at 24) to help lead the team besides Terry & West who normally play shooting guard. Deron & Howard would be extremely beneficial, and judging by the rumors of the Mavs possibly trading off Marion (which I hope not since Odom & Marion make around the same amount and Odom obviously being cut should leave room for Marion) & Terry considering other options, the 2 younger players will hopefully be acquirable.

If anything, it would be nice to get 1 of the 2, but the Mavs want Williams in hopes of luring Howard.

But would Dallas have enough cap space to keep all 3 of them?

Apparently a trade may happen between the Lakers and Hawks

Indiana Pacers promote Kevin Pritchard after Larry Bird decides to quit just before NBA draft

INDIANAPOLIS -- Larry Bird is calling it quits just hours before the NBA draft as the Indiana Pacers name Kevin Pritchard their new general manager in a major shake up of their front office

Pritchard replaces David Morway, who resigned Tuesday. Pritchard, the former Blazers general manager, was the team's director of player personnel.

Donnie Walsh is the Pacers' new president. Walsh said he won't travel the country to evaluate collegiate prospects, leaving that to Pritchard.

Bird, perhaps the most respected and beloved basketball figure in a state obsessed with the sport, will leave his job as the Pacers' president of basketball operations at the end of August. He spent four years building the team into an Eastern Conference contender and was this season's NBA executive of the year, but is instead moving on after saying just a month ago that he was willing to stay.

Bird said health issues were among the reasons for his departure. He said he may need shoulder surgery and cited longstanding issues with his back.

"I just think it's time," he said at a news conference Wednesday as the team announced an executive reorganization.

Kevin Pritchard is the man who rebuilt the Blazers franchise, so I am a big fan of his. As soon as he was mysteriously fired, surprise surprise, Blazers started on a downward spiral which lead to our non-playoff, lottery year.

Good luck in Indiana, and I hope you build on the current Pacers team which already is becoming a contender! Go KP!

But would Dallas have enough cap space to keep all 3 of them?
It would require offloading 3-4 players, but it's do-able.

Edit* Just read that whilst the Rockets are looking at trying to get Howard, he has no desire to actually stay with the team past 2013, so it's almost a question of what's the point?
Also reading that if Deron goes ahead & stays with Brooklyn, that Dallas should not only continue to pursue Howard, but make a run at reuniting Nash with Dirk & Marion, and putting his experience with Howard's dominance. The problem there is that Marion has been brought up numerous times as a piece needed for Orlando to accept the trade....

Personally, I'd start Kidd(and I'm a Kidd hater), but it is true that Jeremy Lin could learn a lot from that loser. Did I say loser? I actually meant to say loser. :P

  However Kidd has said himself his starting days are over and likes the idea of mentoring a younger player while playing backup.

Just while, we are on that subject. The cover for 2K13 will feature Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin. The last of which, I'm sure will make a6 and Paulie very happy.

Oh and yet another Rockets trade.

Griffin?! Seriously? BAH!

All I know for the Houston Rockets' wheeling and dealing is that we're trying to return to being relevant again after recent years of mediocrity. I don't think the Rockets are trying to be the next super team. All we're doing is trying to bring back winning basketball.

Since I've not followed the NBA closely for that long, I've not been around for a single Raptors play-off experience. Here's to hoping..... Winning basketball would be a nice change.

For me, at least, it feels like they might only sign Nash primarily as trade bait for Dwight later on. If that happens, then it's win win both ways. Dallas get Dwight Howard and then have the cap space for Williams, While Orlando would pick up a still elite point guard and a couple of usable pieces. Plus shipping off a star player to another conference isn't a bad thing either.

Well, the problem there is that Dallas is going to either get Williams July 1st or they're not ever (he'll sign 5 years with Brooklyn), so Dallas isn't going to focus on Howard til' Williams makes his decision. And if that happens, Dallas will pursue Howard first before they look for Nash.

In related news, Odom is going to the LA Clippers in exchange for sending Mo Williams to the Jazz & Dallas receiving a trade exception. Woo!

Wow, the draft is going off! I think Sacramento got a steal by getting Robinson. EDIT: Wow New Orleans selected Austin Rivers! But can he play at PG though?

Sending a headcase to LAC, choke-artist to Utah while receiving a trade exception in return.

You guys have a great GM.

I think his original position is PG.

I don't think so because of his height, he reminds me a lot like Allen Iverson.

If we resign Eric Gordon though we may have a lineup with Gordon at PG and maybe Rivers at SG.

Raptors got a backup SG who can shoot the long ball, play transition and defend well. It does fill two needs, backup SG and 3pt shooting. Time for free agency where the Raptors may or may not assemble a threatening, winning team.
We also got Quincy Acy in the 2nd round, a really short Power Forward who at 21 apparently has a kid. I don't know how he'll work out but he looks and sounds pretty tough.

Time for the stupid question of the day! What's a trade exception?

It should be an interesting season for you guys, although it's difficult to say how far forward it will project NOLA.

Then I see the Suns signed Kendall Marshall, trying to embrace for impact of the Nash loss I guess.

People on the NOLA facebook fanpage saying that it'll put us back into the Playoffs again.

That viewpoint is a bit too optimistic for my liking, sure Davis will have an impact from the get go. But Rivers is going to be the interesting case at the Hive as he is considered a 'ball hog.'

But Rivers has a sick offensive skills and he would be a ball handling freak if he practices on his left hand, he would be an absolute beast on the iso.

My overall verdict is that hopefully we should get back to winning basketball if we resign Gordon.

Time for the stupid question of the day! What's a trade exception?
According to Wiki:
Traded Player Exception: If a team trades away a player with a higher salary than the player they acquire in return (we'll call this initial deal "Trade #1"), they receive what is called a Traded Player Exception, also known colloquially as a "Trade Exception". Teams with a trade exception have up to a year in which they can acquire more salary in other trades (Trade #2, #3, etc.) than they send away, as long as the gulf in salaries for Trade #2, #3, etc. are less than or equal to the difference in salary for Trade #1. This exception is particularly useful when teams trade draft picks straight-up for a player; since draft picks have no salary value, often the only way to get salaries to match is to use a trade exception, which allows trades to be made despite unbalanced salaries. It is also useful to compensate teams for losing free agents as they can do a sign and trade of that free agent to acquire a trade exception that can be used later. Note this exception is for single player trades only, though additional cash and draft picks can be part of the trade.
What this does is for Dallas is knock $2.4 million off our books this summer.

In other news, interestingly enough, it appears Dallas & Brooklyn are both considering Nash as Plan B if Deron picks the other team.

I think Nash is mainly only considering what though, the Knicks, Raptors and some other team?

Oh, and in addition to the Wizzards, Golden State could be another team coming forward in leaps and bounds after acquiring Harrison Barnes today, although it depends hugely on the health of Curry and Bogut.

That's been the story so far, but there's plenty of other teams who will welcome him. Donnie Nelson, though, has said we would love to have him, but we have our hands tied beyond that due to the $1 million fine.

We're lucky Dirk didn't receive it for what he said on the radio.

OK, this is the funniest NBA picture I've ever seen, and I've had it posted at my work since I photo-copied the paper following the Game 7 of LAC/Memphis game from this year:

Griffin's "DUH!?" face + Marc Gasol going "waaaaa!!!" I just had to share it with you guys.

OK, might as well post this, too:

Also from work. I was bored earlier this week, and I started drawing a beard on the picture of "Uncle Ben", which became as big as James Harden's, so I decided to finish the job. I apologize in advance to all OKC fans, especially Brett. :P

Which the amount can be used to match salaries in future trades, and that of course adds flexibility when putting together a transaction.

My brother seems to think that Odom might just play well again in Clipper town because L.A. is where he's always wanted to be. Is there any merit to this thought you think?
Anyone else looking forward to the Olympics basketball? I wouldn't mind checking out some Lithuanian games to see Valanciunas play, that's if they're broadcast anywhere I can watch them.

Edit: Looks like Jameer Nelson will be a FA as well having just opted out of his contract with Orlando (not official). I don't know about you guys, but it sounds like the Magic will really suck this year.

Hmm, I'm not sure about Odom. He ain't getting any older but I still think he can be solid off the bench.

I haven't kept track of Olympics basketball but go Australia!

Orlando Magic should make a few moves in FA.

Who could they possibly attract to make them relevant though? Someone's got to lose, and I think Orlando will probably be one of them.

Well it depends if they lose Dwight Howard. But I'm going with your verdict though and I reckon they'll sign a lot of sub par players.

I didn't see that one coming.

I guess it's a why not? It's not like he's ineffective, or have injury problem.

I'm positive that he would prefer to retire with the team who gave him a championship now that he's in his twilight years (as they say).

Isn't Jared Sullinger the one with major injury concerns?

Edit: Yes he is. He has back issues that may or may not affect him but he's meant to be a pretty good player.

So, Nash's first offer has come from the Raptors at $36 million for 3 years. The Suns are fearing that alongside Toronto that Dallas, Brooklyn, & New York could heavily sway Nash.

Howard wanting a trade to Brooklyn (which is stupid), is making it appear that we may have lost Deron & now, possibly Kidd. So, I really hope Donnie Nelson goes after Nash. The arrival of Nash means Terry could be offered the money he wants & Nash with Dirk, Terry, & Matrix could really help us.

Mac: Hurry and check out the front page story at CBS Sports/NBA. "Welcome (back) to our Dwightmare"

Edit: Aww 🤬 Blazers make 4-year max offer to Pacers RFA C Roy Hibbert

I didn't see that one coming. I swear these guys are retarded. Don't get me wrong, I liked Indiana. But Indiana is overrated. They are offering a max contract to a center, granted, up & coming, averaging decent at best number for a starter? We are not talking about Hakeem Olajuwon, or even David Robinson, or not even Patrick Ewing. More like Chris Dudley with slightly less defense, and decent offense.

This reminds me of the Magic offering ungodly amount of money to Rashard Lewis few years back. Thank god the more strict salary cap is saving the Blazers ass right now. I'm sorry, but what a bunch of morons. They might be just trying to screw with Kevin Pritchard, who rebuild the Blazers, then was fired, but come on, what if they don't match!?

Yeah, I caught that. Howard is an idiot & should know that the Nets are at the bottom of the list Magic will want anything from. Even the Lakers who have reportedly begun talking to Orlando again are more likely to make a trade.
