You can't win the Playoffs or a playoff series with a Game 1 victory, but you can still certainly lose the series. Remember that it's a Best of 7, so the first to four wins the series. Teams already up 1-0 in a series can easily lose it or perhaps even possibly go for a sweep. Lose the series at this point, and your team's season will be over.

Having said all of this, the other end of playoff matches begins today. Of course, I'll follow the HOU/POR series in tonight's nightcap. Again- good luck to all playoff teams.

Since my Knickerbockers didn't make the playoffs .... go Nets:gtpflag:. But seriously I thought the officials did a poor job in GS/LAC game. It spoiled a good game.

You just gotta love Pop...... My two favorite parts were "next guy that misses free throw's gonna buy me a new car" & the "Tony Parker Show". It's too good!

Love the commemorations to Sager going on. Nice of the NBA to do so.

This Wizards team could be some real contenders depending how this Bulls series goes. Nene & Wall could have some monster games.

Bulls better come out harder on Game 2 or it's a sweep. They have to go at the Wizards and make some offense. None of this standing around crap while staring at the ball handler.

Honestly, if Bulls lose game 2, the series is over.

This was a game that was winnable. Yeah the refs gave the third quarter to the Wizards but the Bulls gift wrapped the win in the fourth.

Man, I want to say the Portland v Houston game was good, but it wasn't. The officiating was just god awful & it got worse as the refs decided to call make up fouls. Howard got away with a couple fouls, but the refs decided to make up for it by calling a loose ball foul on Howard for being hugged by Freeland. Wat? :odd:

Good game for Lillard, Lin, Dwight (clutch FTs) & Aldridge (monster game, would have been epic had he hit 50 points/20 rebounds). Don't know why he thought a screen was a necessary decision, foul or not, though.

Damn good game. Sadly, we failed. 122-120 was the victory Portland got in Overtime. So Portland's victory marks several other victories by road teams in Game 1 of this season's playoffs. A stat is that the road team that won Game 1 wins the series 56% of the time. That is not a very strong number. The Rockets just have to hope they can even up the series rather than be stuck in a 2-0 hole.

Pretty sure a6m5 is happy his boys won.

I was wondering that, too. That was a really stressful game to watch, with so many players at five fouls out at once. Still entertaining to watch though, too bad it looks like I'll miss all of the games for the rest of the week. :(

That was a great thriller in Houston. However, what was James Harden thinking with that last shot? Jeremy Lin was wide open...

McHale doesn't give Lin any respect. He sets up plays for Harden thinking they will bail them out every time, even though he missed the game winner in regulation time as well.

I think we all agree on the Portland-Houston game. Lot of Houston fans at the game seemed to have gone nuts, even over valid calls. Even Portland broadcast was protesting that lazy screen by LaMarcus getting him fouled out. They actually questioned the refs fouling out a star player on such call. It was a moving pick! How many times did Houston get burned on the same call? Much props to John for not stooping to the level of those homers(from both sides). 👍

How did you like L-Train's game tonight, Mac? :D On that Freeland/Howard foul, Blazers broadcast claimed that Howard had grabbed him, but who knows, they were full of 🤬 tonight.

I was wondering the same thing. Can he not shoot unless he can dive into somebody? :odd: I realize that Howard & Beard are better than what they showed tonight.

I thought the only way the Blazers would have won tonight would've been thru hot shooting. Go figure.

Go Blazers!

Wait, what? A Trailblazers fan who thinks Houston got burned on calls? I'm spending too much time on ISH game threads.

Sir, it was quite epic, Dirk epic. :sly: He joins some elite company with Shaq, Kobe, James, & Howard as the 5th player to grab 45+/15+ in Playoffs.

Freeland was straight up hugging Dwight. Dwight manged to have 1 arm up in the air, and actually got the rebound, but got called for the whistle on a loose ball even though Freeland had his back to the basket and hadn't moved from Dwight since the ball was shot.

Edit* I won't lie, Howard should have been called for a travel that Lopez caught a foul for, but these make up calls just make the games look rigged.

I for one thought the refs didn't affect the game that much. Sure, I swore more than once, but I thought it was pretty even. I thought I saw Asik get called for moving pick like three times. Two looked valid, one looked questionable to me.

That's what it looked like to me from the one angle I saw, but I saw only that one angle, and I also thought that Blazers got the ball in that play? I thought they were getting ready to take off on a break, but I could be wrong. Either way, he got away with a elbow in RoLo's(Lopez) gut anyway. :P

Agreed. There were couple of moments like that for me, too.

If this game proved anything, it'll be that the rest of the series is going to get really interesting, esp. when several guys racked up 5-6 fouls. Clippers/Warriors series as well.

Mike Woodson got canned as coach of the Knicks. Former Rockets coach Rick Adelman retired today. Best wishes to 67-year old Rick Adelman in his retirement after 23 seasons. I wish both coaches well moving forward.

The Rockets are in the NBA Playoffs, but our Developmental League team- the Rio Grande Valley Vipers- are done in the NBA Developmental League's Playoffs. The defending D-League champions got thrashed 147-128 at home in Hidalgo, TX (which is based in far southern Texas, about 54 miles west-northwest of Brownsville) to the Santa Cruz Warriors. If you think the Rockets jack up three-pointers habitually, you probably haven't seen RGV play. The Vipers rely on the three ball almost as much as the Rockets do. Only that RGV shoots the three quite often.

The Santa Cruz Warriors will play the Fort Wayne Mad Ants for the NBA D-League title. If you thought the old Pelican for the New Orleans Pelicans was ugly, you should see Fort Wayne's ugly ass mascot.

I wanted to give the NBA Developmental League some love even though this thread is about the NBA and not the NBA D-League. The Houston vs. Portland series continues Wednesday night. POR is ahead 1-0 in this series. Congratulations to all winners of the NBA Playoff matches tonight.

@Brett That's the video that led me to the one I posted. :D If you don't have mancrush on Pop, you are ghay.

Woodson, I don't know anything about him. Coach Adelman, I will miss that man....... unless he retire in SW Portland(still had home here couple years ago, I assume he still does), then I'll probably run into him again. :)

Kendrick Perkins did something. This game is amazing.
And now Kendrick Perkins' greatest shot of his career is worthless, as the Thunder lost in overtime. 111-105.

EDIT: The First of the 2014 Awards have been handed out, and Joakim Noah is the new Defensive Player of the Year.

That 3-and-1 shot by Durant at the end of regular time today was amazing!

I understand why they got rid of Woodson but I felt he was doomed when the season began. Dolan fired his assistants and got rid of the GM who hired and then said that he expected the Knicks to win a championship. That said he made some bone head decisions coddled JR Smith too long and for some odd reason he refused to give Hardway Jr consistent minutes. I don't feel bad for him because he still has 1 yr remaining on his contract. It looks like Steve Kerr will be the new coach but it doesn't matter who the coach is if they don't get a PG. Speaking pg I think the is the main issue with the Pacers you can't win in the playoffs w/o good pg play.

More award news! This time, it's for Coach of the Year. It's nice that the NBA provides a spreadsheet showing who voted, and who the picked. Anyways, the results.
  • 1st: Greg Popovich, Spurs, 102 total votes.
  • 2nd: Jeff Hornacek, Suns, 98 votes.
  • 3rd: Tom Thibodeau, Bulls, 67 votes.
  • The Rest:
  • Steve Clifford, Bobcats, 53 votes.
  • Dwayne Casey, Raptors, 32 votes.
  • Terry Stotts, Blazers, 11 votes.
  • Doc Rivers, Clippers, 5 votes.
  • Scott Brooks, Thunder, 1 vote.
  • Mark Jackson, Warriors, 1 vote.
  • Jason Kidd, Nets, 1 vote.

EDIT: Oops, i accidentally put up points, instead of the votes, which means I had to do math. Corrected, now.

Yeah if Chicago loses this game, and from the looks of it they probably will, I'm calling it a sweep. :grumpy:

We are the 30th ranked offense in the league for a reason.

YeeeHAAAA!!! My first viewed Raptors playoff win.:D Now let's hope they go to Brooklyn and win two.:nervous: I can see this series going to 7, but if Brooklyn win two at home, they'll be up 3-1.:scared:
