Do you see what I see? Do you hear what I hear? There are teams bouncing basketballs on the hardwood. There is the sound of sneakers squeaking on the floor and basketballs being dribbled. Ladies and gentlemen... the National Basketball Association is back in business! The Preseason is over as yet another quest to win the Larry O'Brien Trophy and the declaration of being NBA (not "World") Champions. All of the Summer basketball along with basketball in the 2016 Rio Olympic Summer Games has now led to the NBA's 30 franchises ready once again to determine who the best teams and best players are. The new NBA season is all dressed up and ready to go in full anger.

Tonight's lineup to tip off the new season features these games:
* NY Knicks at CLE Cavaliers
* Utah Jazz at POR Trail Blazers
* SA Spurs at GS Warriors

So the journey of the regular season will take control of your schedule between October 2016 through about mid-April 2017. The only game that doesn't matter in this stretch is the All-Star Game. Everything else are all part of the journey to become NBA champs.

To all of your teams... good luck to your favorite teams. Make the most of this 82-game grind. Hopefully your favorite team(s) will make the playoffs and maybe go far. Perhaps... championship far. So go have an awesome season!

Now that the season is here, Raptors have some real power forward issues after Sullinger was diagnosed with the same foot injury as Simmons and will miss a few months. They still have Patterson, but the rookies just aren't ready. Expect Toronto to play a lot of small ball with Carroll at the 4.

That young buck on the Spurs, Simmons, gonna give Curry nightmares tonight.

But, on a more serious note, this shouldn't be that surprising & not just because it's the Spurs. GSW gave up that bench for KD, and it showed tonight. Jonathan Simmons outscored the entire GSW bench tonight - 8/14 to 7/21. Led all players with +33. Kid could be something special this season.

Edit*
Oh my.

Good to see the Golden State party got spoiled, it is of course only 1 game at the very start of the season.

DeRozan with 40pts and Valanciunas with 32 was enough to win the Raptors opener.

Many other NBA teams started their season tonight. I'll highlight on a few scores for this post for games that have gone final as of the time of this post.

* The state of Florida has two NBA teams, and both of them clashed in Orlando. Gaining Sunshine State pride in this one was Omnis' Miami Heat with a 108-96 win. Hassan Whiteside got a double-dobule with 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Heat. For ORL, N. Vucevic had a double-double of his own with 17 points and 14 rebounds.

* Paulie's Toronto Raptors did real good. The Detroit Pistons blew a motor in Toronto with a 109-91 loss to the Raptors. So the Eastern Conference Finals runners-up from last season start the 2016-2017 campaign with a win. It was Jonas Valanciunas who put in 32 points and 11 rebounds for TOR. DeMar DeRozan was beast- a 40-point effort for the Raptors. For DET, it was Marcus Morris who scored 17 points for the Pistons.

* 48 minutes weren't enough in Indianapolis to settle this score. McLaren's Mavericks fell in Indiana's capital city 130-121 in Overtime. Myles Turner for IND had 30 points and 16 rebounds logging a double-double. Dirk Nowitzky put in a 22-point effort in the loss for DAL.

* Elsewhere in the Midwest, the Milwaukee Bucks are apparently afraid of insects. The Charlotte Hornets stung the Milwaukee Bucks 107-96. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist put in 23 points and 14 rebounds. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 31 points in the loss for the Bucks.

* 122-117 was the score in Boston as the Celtics took down the visiting Brooklyn Nets. Isiah Thomas scored 25 points for Boston. It was 19 points and 10 rebounds for Justin Hamilton for the BKN.

Wow... lot of triple-digit scores. Defense optional tonight! Congratulations to all other winners up to and beyond the time of this post.

We dropped this one in the usual "fail in prime time on ESPN/ABC," "always hate Houston" fashion. First season without Kobe Bryant begins with a win for the Lakers. On a lighthearted note... very nice looking graphics package ESPN/ABC rolled out for basketball. 120-114 win for the Lakers. There are still 81 games left to play, but it sucks to start a season with a loss. At least we didn't fail miserably like the start of last season. What... some two or three straight games losing by 20 or more?

Rockets are rebuilding themselves after last season's clown show of a season. Oh, well. As the saying goes, "it is what it is..."

With the first seven days of the season underway, tonight is what ESPN shows like "Around the Horn" and "Pardon the Interruption" would call, "BALL NIGHT!" We got eight games tonight, including an Eastern Conference Finals rematch between Cleveland at Toronto. We all know who advanced between CLE and TOR in last season's ECF. So I imagine some revenge is in order at Canada's only remaining NBA team.

Enjoy this first weekend of NBA hoops. Good luck to all of your teams.

JUST WRAPPED UP...

The Toronto Raptors hosted the Cleveland Cavaliers, and it was Cleveland on the winning side of the 94-91 final. So Paulie's Raptors are denied revenge against the Cavs on this night.

All congratulations to all other winners from Friday night.

[UPDATE] Of those winners are my Rockets. We won 106-98 at the Dallas Mavericks. Dirk Nowitzky of DAL didn't play due to illness. Back home this Sunday for our home opener.

Bulls scored 100 points with like 8 minutes left in the 4th. Granted it's against a Pacers team on the 2nd night of a back to back, but I haven't seen them score that much in a loooong time.

And it's great because Wade and Butler did not have to do the heavy lifting. They didn't even play more than 5 minutes in the second half I think.

Going to have to mention my men Millsy and Delly today. Mills had 18pts 5ast in 24min filling in as the starter for Parker, whil Delly had 14pts 9ast. I also thought this Star Was themed opening roll Aussie hoops style was pretty funny. Not brilliant, but funny.

The Houston Rockets played their first home game. So we welcomed one of our two rivals- the Dallas Mavericks. The last meeting ended up in a Rockets win. Tonight's meeting? It was 93-92 as we defeated Dallas again. Initially listening to the radio (I didn't follow the game), I got the impression we lost. But no... we're 2-1 now after tonight. James Harden put in the most points with 28. He also accounted for 7 assists. On Dallas' end, Wesley Matthews put accounted for a quarter (25) points for the Mavs. I didn't know Andrew Bogut is with the Mavericks now.

The 2016-2017 season is a celebration of 50 years of Rockets basketball for the Houston Rockets franchise.

To all the other winners from Sunday, congratulations on a job well done.

This might be mean, but seeing Mo Speights conjures images of Austin Powers for me. Nothing against the guy, but Austin Powers is funny, and that wart or what ever it is really stands out on a bald head.

How do you like the season so far after seven days of NBA basketball?

Tonight's Tuesday night. For us NBA fans, that usually means NBA Fan Night Game of the Week. Here's how it works. People vote on the match they want to see on NBA TV each Tuesday night. Most votes- the game gets face time. So for this Tuesday, this game was selected:

HOU Rockets at CLE Cavaliers

So NBA fans want to see my Rockets play at the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers on the same night the Cleveland Indians have a chance to clinch the 2016 World Series across the way. I'm expecting us to leave Cleveland with a loss unless the Cavs get bored and let us win. Losing by 10 points or less will satisfy me. And of course, if we win, I'll happy dance my butt off.

This game is only one of nine games to be played tonight. Enjoy some NBA hoops on this Tuesday night, folks.

[OMISSION] Ray Allen has announced his retirement recently. He's 41 and has played in 18 seasons of NBA basketball. Ray Allen is one of the best three-point shooters in NBA history. Best wishes to Ray Allen in his retirement.

I said I'd be okay if the Rockets lost by 10 or less. Well, we failed, so I got that right. I also predicted we'd lose by 10 or less points. It doesn't take a Math major to figure out our 128-120 fail at the Cavaliers is a margin of victory 10 points or less. I still think there was a whole lot for the Rockets to fail tonight that victory wasn't going to happen.

Oh, well... congratulations to all other winners from Tuesday.

At Madison Square Garden, my Rockets played their first(?) back-to-back of the 2016-2017 season. We were able to get over a loss at the Cavaliers by taking down the Knicks 118-99 in their house. I saw that James Harden cashed in 30 points and 15 assists in this one. So my Rockets are now 3-2 on the season. We ain't scared of no Knicks. We didn't even need the 1993-1994 Houston Rockets to take down the Knicks.

Congratulations to Wednesday's other winners. Hopefully your team(s) got it done tonight if they played.

Tonight begins another weekend of NBA action. There is still a lot of 'ball to be played, but these are the current winless teams so far this season. Can these teams finally win their first game of the season? Currently winless:

* Philadelphia (0-4)
* Washington (0-3)
* Dallas (0-4)
* New Orleans (0-5)

I think Washington and Dallas are most surprising to have winless records, especially Dallas. I know my Houston Rockets defeated the Mavs twice this season so far, but it's rather surprising with so many who have yet to win as of this point.

My 3-2 (2nd in Southwest Division) Houston Rockets won't play again until this Saturday at the Atlanta Hawks. That will be our first game opposing Dwight Howard after his service with the Rockets. Anyhow... enjoy this "Ball Night" and this weekend of NBA hoops.

112-97, Atlanta Hawks over my visiting Houston Rockets. The boys from H-Town didn't fare so well against another city known for brutal sports futility.

Congratulations to the other winners from Saturday. Also, congratulations to LeBron James passing Rockets great Hakeem Olajuwon for 10th on the all-time scoring list.

Want some Tuesday Night NBA action? You got it, mates! There are six games on tonight for you NBA fans. But on NBA TV, these games will be shown among tonight's six games:

* ATL Hawks at CLE Cavaliers (CLE currently undefeated at 6-0)
* NO Pelicans at SAC Kings (NO currently winless at 0-7)

Other matches tonight:
* MIN Timberwolves at BKN Nets
* DEN Nuggets at MEM Grizzlies
* PHX Suns at POR Trail Blazers
* DAL Mavericks at LAL Lakers

And there you have it. Enjoy some Tuesday night NBA hoops.

The Houston Rockets were at the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night. The end result? We came away with a 101-99 victory. I think Tony Parker was not in the game with a knee injury. Still, it always feels good as a Rockets fan to knock off either of your in-state foes from Dallas or San Antonio. So it's another win for the H-Town boys taking down the black and silver boys.

Congratulations to the other winners from Wednesday.

We got four games tonight on the first Thursday night under the Trump presidency. This is what your Thursday night of NBA basketball looks like:

* CHI Bulls at MIA Heat (NBA on TNT)
* NO Pelicans at MIL Bucks
* GS Warriors at DEN Nuggets
* LAL Lakers at SAC Kings (NBA on TNT)

If I'm not mistaken, these four games mean four games in each Time Zone. I think that's really cool. So go enjoy some NBA hoops tonight!
