Delphic Reason
Until someone comes out and says he did, you're the one doing the speculating.

Until someone sheds more light on it we're all speculating. Saying they probably haven't used a wheel is speculation and saying the probably have is also speculation.

Berca, care to comment?
My thoughts exactley

Skip Berca, go to the Speedhunters site and ask the man, that's JR, himself ;)

SpeedHunters.com: VIDEO ROLL>> SMASHTOWN USA AND NFS SHIFT!

"When I talk about feel and being realistic I mean that its not arcady. you don't automatically get put into drift by pushing a series of buttons. You need to toss the car or use the ebrake properly, you have to give proper amount of inputs to get the right results with regards to initiation and adjustments. I have always used wheels and in my opinion both grid and Forza 2 feel like garbage on the wheel and the controller. Shift is the most realistic game out of the box I have ever played. It is quite challenging and fun, I'm curious to hear your feedback when you get a chance to try it! "

I agree pro street was pretty garbage as far as drifting was concerned Shift is night and day in comparison as it uses a completely different physics model, yes you can modify the cars in all aspects.

I use GT3 as a bench mark for any game I play as I think its way better then any of the more recent games out when the cars are tuned properly. I havent played gt5 much so I cant answer that question sorry.

I have not been a huge fan of the past NFS games. Shift uses an extremely realistic physics model built off of real geometry from manufacturers. it is leaps and bounds from the other games and the other nfs titles everyone is used to.The racing is incredible too.

I have had some friends that LOVE Forza and GT play the most recent version of shift i have been testing. After 10-15 minutes of cussing and getting used to it they fall in love.

Wow! While I wouldn't say FM2 feel like garbage but again I've never tried drifting with any of the cars. Some of the replays I've seen do support VGJ's opinion, though. He did mention that he uses GT3 as the benchmark for any racing games he play and obviously he has vested interest in SHIFT, but it's still good to know that the game is coming along quite nicely (as if I don't know tht already).

Isn't it normal that his comments on Shift are very positive. He has been co-developing the drift physics with SMS for one year. It's obvious that he isn't going to criticise ( in a negative way) a race game that he helped developing.

Of course you should read those comments through the eyes of someone that was part of making the game. But in his comments he is not to kind about previous NFS titles and he, at least seams, excited about this one and has played racing games on consoles before, so that's a start.

I will make my own judgment when I get my hands on the demo and up until then, I will enjoy the screenshots, clips and PR comments/stories. But I will never forget what they are used for, marketing tools ;)

+1 👍

Circuit reminds me of Prostreet... which doesn't look like a "professional racetrack" should :/
Nice screens though. The lighting is one of the nicest ever seen on consoles, imo :embarrassed:

Probably one of the phantasy tracks. And that is for me not a negative far from it. race race tracks are often built for the audience and safety for the drivers rather then the drivers themselves and on a limited space so they are really inferior to the potential of phantasy tracks. When you aren´t that limited with what you can do due to safety reasons and being limited by the layout of an existing place :)

Of course it´s nice to be on a "real place" to drive too but I would hope even for the hardcore sims that more dare to include more phantasy tracks. that´s for sure.
Would love a nurburgring of the phantasy tracks that get so popular it get licensed by other games lol

Some more gameplay news coming from IGN:

Full story and a lot more info here: Need for Speed Shift Updated Impressions

"And given that this title is a little more simulation heavy than past efforts, Slightly Mad needed to do something unique to get people set up and going right off the bat at a level appropriate for them. Enter the orientation lap.

When you first start the game, you'll only have two choices: Start Career and Options. Choosing Start Career immediately puts you behind the wheel of a BMW M3 with all assists turned off for a solo lap at Brands Hatch. After you finish the lap, the game then shows you what sort of difficulty options it suggests for you."

After you complete this orientation lap, you're then put in a two lap race on the same course, and your finishing position will determine how much cash you get to start your career with, ranging from $25k to $35k. You have the option to retry the race as many times as you'd like to get an easier start to your career. After this, then everything else opens up, including the Quick Race and online options

As far as the tier-based events go, each level has a series of different event types to partake in. In the first tier, for instance, there are standard races, manufacturer races (where you're put into a car and race against the AI in the exact same model) and time trials. Each of these "sets" have star requirements that you have to earn before entering. So in the first tier, you can just jump right into the standard races, but you'll need to earn ten stars before you can compete in the manufacturer races and 20 before you can take on the time trials.

Also new car of the day posted Ford GT (high res on NFS site)

The sound in the game is just brilliant! I love the sound of the GT-R in the tunnels, & how the sound of damage just echoes through out them. :dopey:

Everything in the ign review got me excited right up until the part where it says it didn't feel as realistic as hardcore sims like gran turismo or forza. Everything else is pointing towards a really fun way to pass time until GT5 though.

Thanks for the vids and the interview!

looks good! The sounds are great!

But I don´t like that race track :S I don´t like city courses at all... in the game that looks like another classic need for speed track... I hope there are more real racing tracks...

Here's the track list, I've italicized the real tracks:

Tracks:

* Alpental
* Autopolis International Racing Course
* Ambush Canyon
* Brands Hatch
* Dakota
* Ebisu Circuit
* Glendale
* Hazyview
* Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
* London
* Miytomi
* Nordschleife
* Road America
* Rustle Creek
* Silverstone
* Circuit de Spa Francorchamps
* Tokyo
* Willow Springs

I did noticed that at the end of the IGN article, the reviewer mentioned that “The game certainly has its own unique feel, where the cars perhaps feel a little more loose and squirrely than more hardcore sim racers like Gran Turismo and Forza…”
If he's using a gamepad (where it's much harder to get the throttle right) then I would say SHIFT is more realistic than either these two games. I know that Forza 2 can sometime feels like your driving on rail (especially with a wheel).

well, Dev's have said that hardcore mode "Pro" can only be played with the wheel

Didn't they say that about Pro Street as well?

True, you could play it with a wheel but it was so unresponsive I punched myself in the face to make it more enjoyable

No the Shift dev team never said that about Pro Street, mainly because its a completely different dev team.

I'm still not convinced about the game, it doesn't seem to "flow" like a real car. I shall continue to reserve judgements and decisions until I play it.

For me the same 👍 , Although I will give the dev-team behind it a little bit more trust, due to their earlier work ;)

And some more screens from xboxfront.de

Few, rest available on site, but think I already saw most of them somewhere else.

I wish they'd post more pics of the muscle cars like the Z06, GT500 and Camaro SS.:(

Same here...

Something about the way the cars are moving, just looks off. Furthermore, I'm still a bit miffed that they appear to be working on different physics models for the different types of racing (i.e drift, circuit), which I have always detested.

I'll reserve final judgment, but up till now the only thing making me excited is the track list, livery editor, and graphics.

I enjoy the GTR series, but there are also too many issues with the GTR series for me to get too excited by their inclusion in the NFS series. If they wouldn't have recruited Ero (sp?) to work on the tire physics, I would be even more worried, as that is easily the weakest point of the GTR franchise, in my opinion of course.

;)

LoL at this thread. round and around and around we go... Demo's release date? nobody knows.
Someone asks question, question gets answered, few pages later, same question gets asked. rinse, repeat.

I hope this turns out well. I don't like having to have an affair on Gran Turismo...but maybe I'll keep it on the downlow if this game lives up to what I see.
