No one has mentioned the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit. The 1.34 update was codenamed 'Quebec' and (supposedly) had references to the track in the data. Perhaps we're getting it now?

Sophy, in some shape or form, would be nice too.

If we are to look at the quality of the assets in the game such as car and track LOD models, and resolutions of the textures it becomes evident that this game was designed on the PS4 and for the PS4 originally. The likely reason for the delay was because they decided to make the game compatible with the PS5 so that they could attempt to avoid a situation like what happened with GT6 where people were critical about the game being released on older hardware exclusively.
Thing is the early marketing for the game clearly labelled it as a PS5 exclusive.

That marketing is cited in 2021. Do any of us even know how long GT7 was in development prior to that? We could argue that it was meant to be PS5 and yada yada until the cows come home, but it's clear that unless we know for certain the start date of GT7's development that it's all smoke and mirrors.

GT7 was confirmed to have been in development in an interview in mid-2019. However, just because that's when he mentioned it doesn't mean it started then. I'd imagine development begun within a year or so after GT Sport shipped, just as they've confirmed development has begun on GT8.

My guess is that they marketed this early on as a PS5 exclusive but it was always developed with the flexibility to be a ps4 compatible game. GT7 has brought a lot of new features, but it never took the generational leap that other GT titles have on new consoles.

Let's say, hypothetically, that it did start a year after Sport. That would make the timeline in mid-late 2018. Which doesn't help disapprove my speculation that it was meant to be a PS4 title.

I'd like to add that it is very possible that it was meant to be a PS4 title, then as current-gen PS5 pushed closer to release date Sony pushed PD into attempting to make it a PS5 exclusive launch title late into development hence the promotional marketing of PS5-only. PD decided to back-pedal this Sony decision and stick to their original goal of making the title available on PS4.

Either way, what we have is a PS4 title on PS5, the quality of the game's assets proves this. And we're stuck with a cross-gen game, one which PD are locked into supporting for both platforms, lest they risk alienating the PS4 user base and causing yet more negative public relations.

Based on the reports and articles I read back in 2021 there was an admission/acknowledgement by someone at either SIE or PD that GT7 had in fact been intended to be a PS5 exclusive since it’s inception, but was later decided and changed to be cross gen with PS4 around the same time that both Sony and PD announced they were experiencing issues that caused delays to GT7 development/release and supply chain/shortages for PS5 consoles due to COVID pandemic. Not sure how much of an issue that was for PD because I’m not a developer, but I’m guessing they had extra, unplanned work to do and probably some sacrifices to make because of that.
I’m not saying for a fact, but I believe had COVID never happened and caused the issues that it did GT7 would be a PS5 exclusive as intended, and also PS5 would have been much more capable of meeting demand at launch.

It is commonly believed that because PS5 supply couldn’t meet demand they were forced to, at a late point in GT7 development, make the game for both PS4 and PS5 or suffer significant sales losses for GT7, which we be a very bad look for Sony.

If there is a big update coming, it's at least partly tied to the World Finals coming up. We've seen it before with GT Sport, tracks come out either just before or after big online esports events.

As has been commented thousands of times in update guessing threads, there is a "TBA" in the esports events list. I'm guessing that's going to be filled up by a new circuit or layout.

However, if Nenkai is suggesting there is potentially the biggest update coming in GT7, It's definitely more than just a track. It would have to be a bigger change than releasing Grand Valley, right?

I think it's too early to be full Sophy integration yet, personally, as there only been one real world test previously.

But, I mean VR support was arguably a big update for some, so what do you class as "big".

Finally, that prior update was over 3GB for a "minor bug fix". I suspect that they stealth added part of something with that update, and that the other half (or second part) will be added next time around. Unless we found another reason for that 3GB?

While having GT7 on PS5 does indeed help boost sales, it comes at the cost of supporting two generations of consoles with two different user bases.

Personally, I would've been fine with having it a PS4 exclusive title.
Except GT7 was originally publicly pitched as a PS5 exclusive, not a PS4 exclusive.

There’s absolutely, positively, NO WAY this is the case.

If this game was designed for PS4 originally then “adapted” for PS5…. then you wouldn’t be able to time GT7-PS4 loading times with a sun dial.

….but I award you a “10” for the mental gymnastics 👍🏼

Edit:

Besides, when you plug into a PSVR2, it becomes clear that this game was designed first and foremost with VR in mind. There’s no way PSVR1 or PS4 would have been able to run this game as intended

Update size is irrelevant of anything with the way their file system for the game works, at least on PS4.

"Gran Turismo is Back"

...It said in the reveal trailer.

But as there was no snow or Endurance + B-Spec (GT4 feature) it wasn't the return I expected - remembering that the trailer started inside a Ford GT, which was de cover of GT4.

Will this supposed '2.0' seal the definitive return?

Yeah I dont think PS4 is the reason of the 16 player grid, however we did got 20 player grid the first week of the game and then was removed and never came back, no idea why.
Mysterious.

An issue I had with full grids in custom race was, with enough different cars in complex liveries, you can create conditions for your console to crash.

If you tried take a race photo with too many of these cars onscreen, and select high-resolution for the output, you would get a small freeze and a nice trip back to the dashboard. (PS4) Helmet/Suit liveries are not helping here either. My console screams in agony whenever I have to edit my helmet.

I imagine the reason that we still don't have 20-30 car grids in online has to do with an edge-case/assumption of every player coming in with some sort of complex livery and needing the game to be stable for GTWS crossplay. Ironically, the unique decal limit is actually lower in GT7 for cars.

Probably a host of compromises were made that led to reverting back to 16.

Edit for precision: unique decal and not just decal

This actually make total sense, hope they can sort something out and bring it back at least 20, 24 will be perfect tho but maybe is too much to ask lol.

If anything, this should be the Gran Turismo 2 of the next chapter, in Gran Turismo. Kaz said GT Sport is the beginning of a new chapter. There’s no Pikes Peak!

Or will there beeee?…… How “big” do you want your update? Mountain high? ;):sly::lol:

A big update for me could actually be small in size.

It would include:
1-customizable hud
2-in the garage it shows us what tires are currently installed
3-ability to share tunes with each other (tire width, offset and diameter included)
4-ability to gift cars or credits
5-bigger payouts for all events not just limited to the big four
6-ability to kick or ban a player in your lobby without having to quit your race to do so
7-some vintage mags/rims for the muscle cars, slot mags at the very least

all that being said, if they dropped a bunch of tracks and cars on us so be it, not going to complain about that. But my list would fix a lot of stuff that really annoys me and others about this game.

For that race, IIRC the cars are evenly spread out so that you don't see that many cars at once for optimization reasons.
I tried backing up the field. Couldn’t hold the AI up long, no problems. I believe there’s a video with someone running 30 cars at many tracks. Even with rain.

More vintage rims would be amazing!!
