This interview made me preorder this game finally. And the last lines are just too nice. No one should forget how we met the series. We need new players to understand and respect car culture not just use GT as a filling title. From my side I've always welcomed calmly everyone who is new to the game. I hope the others will do it too.

That's good! One last question regarding some of the finer details - are you going to implement VR across the board this time as opposed to the limited cases available in Gran Turismo Sport?

Kazunori Yamauchi: So regarding PSVR, we're not at a state where we cannot talk about it yet.

Also :

This is a question I've been asking you variants on since Gran Turismo 5 Prologue so apologies you've heard it so many times. I just wanted to know how the damage model has evolved for Gran Turismo 7.

Kazunori Yamauchi:
Basically it's the same as in Gran Turismo sport, except how it's expressed is a little bit more improved in comparison.

And I love how he have described GT Cafe !

Thank you GTPlanet for a great interview with our lord and saviour Mister Kaz!

Most of the information in there sounds great to my ears, but I gotta admit that the 16 car limit is rather disappointing. I wonder if the possibility of renting a dedicated server could be an option? I'm sure the chances of that are at best a small fragment of a percent, so I will not hold my breath. The hardware is definately capable, and I'm sure that the issue at hand is network related as peope have comment here. However, I would gladly pay monthly to rent a dedicated server to host league races, no doubt. If we can get more advanced lobby settings it would be at least some consolation.

Regarding the weather system, I'll hold and see what tracks will have it implemented, but the ring and Le Mans are already two big boxes checked for me in that department. Now I can run simulated 24HR races with the time acceleration and dynamic weather, and I can't wait! From the description and screens, it sounds like a very advanced weather simulation, and I'll take what tracks we get. Hopefully we get a decent number of tracks with this feature, and I hope more tracks might get added at later dates via updates.

Otherwise, I'm still on the hype train and can't wait to get my hands on GT7, March can't come soon enough!

"We found that we were able to make a PS4 version and a PS5 version without dropping any quality."
Without dropping quality...on which console?

To me it sounds like the PS5 is being heavily under-utilized, given how much more powerful it is than the PS4.

”As with Sport, Yamauchi confirmed that GT7 will continue to support a maximum of 16 cars on track at a time.”

This sounds like a horrific decision.
I'm guessing that's the result of letting the PS4 set the performance bar.

Yeah, would be disappointed if the lobby supports only 16. Still by that I'd wonder what'd happen if the game is PS5 exclusive (or the amount of tracks that can have dynamic weather & time).

I guess it's inevitable to have internet connection required in most of the game if they want to keep and manage multiplayer....

He kinda confirmed about the Wide Body being a return of Racing Modifications... (I'd hope for the fictional race cars to be turned as that as well, the reverse of RM cars from GT5 to GT6).

“Everything from the temperature, to the humidity, to the surface temperature of the track, to the cars passing over puddles to spray the water off the track. All those new things are implemented and calculated within the physics.” - that sounds awsome but dynamic weather and day only on selected tracks, ps5/ps4 crossplay with max 16 cars is big let down
“When we need or want to apply a strict BoP [balance of performance], there will be a BoP applied to that race.” - that also important and glad to hear (they could ruin multiplayer without strict bop)

I'm assuming by him saying it will not being included on all tracks, he might be referencing Willow Springs/Laguna Seca. Of course rain does occur on occasion, but I'd assume it's a fairly rare one.
It's very likely not that at all lol. It rains in both those places, but most importantly, why would you think it's referencing Laguna Seca at all, though?

I just heard GT7 won't have ray tracing during races, only in replays and in the garage....???¿¿¿ What's that all about?

Sounds to me like the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game will be exactly the same with nothing getting axed for the sake of performance.

Well at finally indirectly the PS5 version it's look limited by the PS4 version.
The PS5 version just get the advantage for maybe solid 60FPS, a little better graphic things, loading times and Dualsense, nothing more.
That much should have been expected from the moment we knew it was a cross-console game. It's the norm, right now.

Most likely RT processing was too heavy during gameplay since they're now doing dynamic time, weather, and 3d procedural cloud simulation. From the translation it sounds like they're still actively trying to get it working in gameplay but not for launch?

This reminds me of Assetto Corsa Competizione was supposed to have ray tracing but removed in the final version for some reason.

I don't think the game is available for pre-orders yet...

Is it?

Yeah, even on PC beasts Nvidia cards Kunos gave up on ray-tracing in gameplay. Maybe they'll get it working for AC2 in 2024 though.

I was thinking of more arid/dryer tracks from GTS. Those both struck me as the two least likely tracks to encounter a substantial chance of rain that are currently in the track roster. Moreso Willow Spring than Laguna Seca.

Really bummed about the 16 player count. Even if 20 or so was limited to PS5 I'd take that. Max lobby count was something I was most looking forward to improving going into GT Sport, and now that it's the same in 7, it's just disappointing. I know they're dedicated servers but seeing 20+ over in Sport mode hurts.

It sounds like a good gran turismo game without the bad "quirks" of gt5 and gt6.
The 16 car grid is totally a PS4 limitation, same goes for the weather not being in every track. It's an awkward time to release a new gt game. Can't wait for the "high quality" discussions comparing the next gen forza motorsport to cross gen gt7.
The gt café is such a gran turismo thing i,love it,it's similar to Clarkson describing the cars in Forza 4 but the whole atmosphere of a coffee/resturant is the kind of vibe only gt has 😃

For fun, I'm summing up stuff I'm eager to learn about leading up to release:
  • Contact physics. Are we still playing ping-pong? Proper contact physics is actually one of my most wanted improvement for Gran Turismo. I'm not keeping my hopes high, as the ping-ping/bumper car contact physics has been the norm for the series since '97, but for me it's a major immersion breaker. I don't need detailed cosmetic damage, but to see the cars react in a realistic manner with contact/collision would be very appreciated.
  • Will we get more advanced lobby settings? GT Sport has in my opinion, quite limited setup options for lobbies.
  • Custom races, more customization? I'd love to be able to manually set up my grid, and not restrict to classes or one-make. If I wanna race the Tomahawk against a field of Sambabusses, please let me :D
  • Is AI going to be actually competitive without boost/rubber banding?
  • VR support? We know Kaz is a firm believer in VR, so I'm fairly optimistic we'll get good VR support in GT7.
  • Will we get back to "real time" pitstops, and not the cutscene format as it is now? I would love the option of having to manually slow down before entering the pitlane.
  • Wheel/Pedal calibration. The possibility to properly calibrate, especially the pedals, is really needed. I'm not a fan of the brake/throttle curve in GT Sport as it is.
Now I know this sounds like I'm being a negative nelly here, but on the contratry, I'm very hyped and can't wait for the game! These are just some tidbits that I have on my mind and am curious to learn about.

Loving all this GT7 info, hope we get more info/footage in a regular basis now that we're not as far from release as expected!

“For the first time players of the game, I really want them to feel how the world of cars expands in front of them as they discover all these different cars. In the previous titles of Gran Turismo, you could probably purchase 10 cars and complete the game with them. But really, that leaves the 400 other cars included in the game on the sidelines and you don’t get to experience them,” Yamauchi lamented.
Only 410 cars seems a little light compared to GT Sports 338 (most were duplicates Road, GR.3 & GR.4) 72 more cars there were more unused premiums in GT6 than that!

Is there going to be missing cars again?

I'm not sure where you heard that. The gameplay we've seen clearly has ray tracing, but perhaps it's disabled on the PS4 version.

Laguna Seca is less than a couple miles from a the shores of a beach. Either way, it rains there, so I don't see that as a reason to exclude it. It's likely that it was either time constraints or resources available.

I'm fairly certain it was said to not be in gameplay. I don't recall were I've heard it, but we've also been able to tell right off some of the videos they've shown already. One was of a Miata that didn't even have it's mirrors in the reflections. If I can find the info I'll post it, but It was definitely on here.
