Not trying to underestimate Polyphony's efforts but time-syncing was actually used by Burnout Paradise first in that you could sync the in-game clock to your real life time. Still, time-syncing for different circuits is awesome.

Sounds great!

Just thought I'd come on after seeing the update, Just thought I'd post a review of that, http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=272156

Andy Hartup Quote " Kazunori and his team spent five years making pretty cars and tossing about on test tracks (ignoring real issues like driver AI, online creativity and damage) while other devs made racers like GRID and Burnout - living up to expectations of what a 'good racer' should be."

Really? GRID? Burnout? The damage may "look" better, but there is nothing about GRID or Burnout that even can hold the word "SIM" in their name, that guy is pretty funny. However, Alex in the review above, has his head on straight. He said " After all, when GT5 only does everything, why bother buying any other racing games at all?" I like him already.

Yeah, this is relating to weather @ the time of the day too, so you're getting both real time sync with the real time of the track location, and weather. You gotta have a stepping stone somewhere, Someone always has something from someone elses idea, they just make it better :)

Dynamic Weather/Time
Snow is similarly impressive, hitting the windscreen in thick clumps before melting into water and being wiped from view. Flakes start to clump in thick grass, tree branches and tracksides before slowly setting onto the track, one lap at a time. It's not just how stunning the weather effects look, though, but their unpredictability which most impresses. Weather even alters the temperature, air pressure and humidity on the track. Forecasts are available for each race, but in a cruelly realistic twist, aren't always accurate. During long races, clouds move across the sky, darkening the track and forcing a constant re-assessment of your race strategy. Failure to read the changing conditions could mean the difference between victory and crashing out.
Daylight alters during longer races, too. Night slowly sets in, reducing visibility and necessitating the use of hi-beam headlights over normal ones. In a 24 hour race, the sky's hue changes slowly fades to black and back without any animations. Stunning. In keeping with the hyper-realism, Polyphony have even included 'time-syncing' on real-life circuits. This allows you to match the time of day in-game to that of the real track - meaning if it's night time in Monza, you'll have to race in the dark. Yet another unnecessary detail that only GT offers...
Dynamic weather and day/night cycle still isn't confirmed for all tracks though, right?

No, it is confirmed that dynamic weather will be on selected tracks and all course maker created tracks. Don't know about day/night though, but I think that this works for all tracks.

What an idiot.

I came up with the idea years ago. :P

Technically, GT5:P already does this; you just can't race on those circuits...

Well done dessy. Now I suspect a long delay after some "softening the blow type of" news.

Thanks again. Matey.

haha I know right? GRID and Burnout, obviously he can't see past the fake blur and MASSIVE Smoke that those games aren't sims, they are arcade racers, they are games for people who either just want a quick fling at a game that's got fun effects, vs a game that's actually based with "real physics" and that has gotten the ability to call itself a "Sim" Gran Turismo can call itself a sim, the motor corporations have allowed him todo so, First time Need for speed calls itself a sim, It'll be released with 0 cars. lol That guy is obviously missing what GT is about.

Edit /sarcasm, someone better contact kaz to make it possible to drift into corners at 170 mph all while staying in the lines, otherwise the HUGE Andy fanbase won't be happy :(

Pure lies:

"Standard cars look more detailled than any car in prologue."

Fail. By that logic the standard cars would look better than premium cars because the cars in prologue are all premium.

If this information is true, especially the information on standard cars, then i am a very happy man! :D It all sounds just too good! Although i am skeptical, i will take their word for it.

All we need now is a release date. Bring on GT5! :D

The GT5 premiums cars are more detailed than the GT5P premium cars so I don't know where your getting at.

You're also forgetting that the cars in prologue have had major overhauls

Edit : As kaz said, GT Prologue and GT5 are 2 completely different games, in how it feels and looks.

Edit again : Zod posted this in the other thread " Premium cars will look A LOT better than Prologue cars, this was said almost 1 year ago. Premium cars in GT5 will have about 400.000-500.000 polygons, Prologue cars have about 100.000-250.000 if I'm not mistaken" My point exactly

Beat me to it.

That little exception aside, interesting article, and has nice bits in there. Thanks for posting 👍

(EDIT) Surely they don't mean "every" rally race will take place on randomly-generated tracks, right? Toscana needs to be used, and any returning GT4 tracks...

Yes sir! 👍 I have a feeling the standard cars are going to look similar to the GT psp intro cars.

Toscana is "randomly" generated... ;)

All I know is, I'm going to love using the private race function. I need to start a friends list, at least I wont get confused on who's who, now that I've waited 6 years for GT5, I can use my PS3 for what it was designed for, GT5.. haha, if any of you want to use the private race fuction, for drag races, for random fun etc, lemme know I'll add ya on my friends list on there.

Edit : Just PM me if your interested in that, I don't want to hijack this thread with people wanting to be my friend, not that anyone wants to do that anyways :( haha

...I was waiting for that ;).

I guess all of our rally courses technically are, huh? O/T, but I wonder if PD will ever go and model a particular rally stage, or at least a portion. They could probably give us the entire Pikes Peak run these days...

Well, all I meant is that the "Toscana course" is (more likely than not) a particular creation from the course generator, as opposed to one crafted from scratch. Although, I do imagine it was tweaked somewhat to appeal, as indeed I hope most "random" courses will be.

To me, it mostly demonstrates that PD have been spoon-feeding us little bits of what their game can do, rather than handing us the whole thing (i.e. in the demo) and letting us "get on with it." I wonder what else is actually part of a whole other sub-system.

As for Pikes Peak, I would most certainly welcome that back, especially if they incorporated more of the actual course this time. 👍

Excellent:
"NASCAR in GT only comprises a few 'official' tracks - including Daytona and Indianapolis - and roughly ten real drivers. The license will also play to the real sport's rules, such as yellow flags and pitting. The NASCARs are also the only vehicles which have bonnets break open and rear windows shatter."

I remember a while back that KY said the cars are not allowed to stall. Manufacturers made it clear that their cars were never to stop running.

I can't source it though, it was a while back, maybe TGS? or Gamescom...

Kaz never said that. Chris (the US producer) mentioned that. Back at last years TGS it was Kaz that said that there would be engine failure.

He said that they couldn't "total" the cars (i.e. wreck them to hell and back) as the manufacturers didn't want their cars destroyed utterly.

Engine stalls hasn't had much mention in my books

Also thanks for the review :3 finally some good news for us

Lets not turn this into a Standard vs. Premium debate again, but I feel as if this magazine has just taken what Kaz has said and put it into their own words. That the Standard cars would be up to GT5 quality. Weve seen maybe 2 videos. I remember seeing the older muscle cars and they didn't look anything like GT4 cars. They looked good IMO. Not so sure about the Bland poop colored Corvette, but the camaros and such looked pretty decent. If Kaz did upgrade their quality, maybe what this article says isn't so far off the mark.

I'm going to wait for GT5 to com out before I take this article seriously. Sounds like they're pulling some of the stuff from thin air. Standard cars looking better than GT5P cars? That will be the day.........
