NFL 2014 Season

Bills have what looks to be a pretty easy season ahead of them with all garbage teams. If they could get Fred Jackson back we may actually have a shot at the playoffs.

Another week of NFL action begins on Thursday with San Diego visiting Denver this Thursday Night. While there is still a lot of time left between now and that game, here is another assessment post of mine.

I think the Houston Texans have lost their fire and are losing their way. The 2014 Texans got off to a 3-1 start was fairly impressive. They have since lost three straight, including losses at Dallas in Overtime, at home to Indianapolis on Thursday night, and at Pittsburgh last night on Monday Night Football. The new swagger Bill O'Brien offers isn't exactly translating into wins. It almost seems like the work of Arian Foster, rookie Alfred Blue, Andre Johnson, and the dynamic J.J. Watt is going for nothing. The execution is not leading to winning football for whatever reason. I even remembered during one Texans loss someone on Facebook said J.J. Watt should be on a better team. The Texans are a sinking ship, but this sinking ship has talent. It just hasn't translated to regularity in wins. That is what concerns me moving forward in this season. At best, these Texans are an AFC Wild Card team. Unless Indianapolis fades down the stretch with Tennessee and Jacksonville playing like bottom feeders, we're not winning the AFC South. There is still a lot of season left and still time to improve. Question is... have the Texans dug themselves too deep a hole to escape out of (like my 2014 Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer)? That question remains to be answered still with two more months of NFL action to go.

The Texans' next game is at Tennessee. They need to win this one because it's a division game.

There is my Texans assessment. If you want to assess your team at this point (or some other team), feel free to do so.
Houston needs a quarterback more th anything else. They're not going anywhere with Fitzpatrick.

I was about to say the same thing. Fitzy didn't exactly put up stellar numbers for the Bengals several years back when Palmer went down. I want to say they started that season off something like 0-4. I don't know for sure as I try to forget those bad memories.

As for my Bengals...Started off nicely at 3-0 with some people claiming we might have the best overall team in the league. However since the bye week, we were embarrassed on primetime TV (nothing new there) by the Pats, tied the so-so Panthers (by shanking a field goal in OT), and got beat around like rag dolls by the Colts in a shutout. Yeah. And we get to face the now AFC North division leading Ravens. We may have beat them to start the season, but it may be a different story this week.

The Bills need a better offensive coordinator. In my opinion, Hackett has to go. Some of the playcalling is, really bad at times. But, at least we have a winning record so far. I hope to see a 5-3 record at the bye. (But what Bills fan doesn't).

The only thing I don't like about that schedule is the 4 game stretch that includes the Packers, Broncos, and Patriots.

Brett Favre thinks that Austin Davis (Rams current QB) could be someone big in the future as he gets more experience. By somebody, he referred to two players- Kurt Warner and Tom Brady. How's that for some high praise? Of course, that could be subject to change if his play falters, but for now, he seems to be the answer to QB that the Rams desperately needed. I hope that he works out too since St. Louis has had several issues with that position in the past few years.

No other assessments or thoughts on your teams? Okay, we'll move on...

If "you are what your record is," then two impressive teams will be ready to clash in Denver tonight. The 5-1 San Diego Chargers will meet the 5-2 Denver Broncos in an AFC West showdown. DEN is favored on the line by 8.5 with an over/under of 51.5 tonight.

Enjoy some Thursday Night Football if you will be following this game.

Apparently Favre is coming back to play for the Packers again. Him and Manning going at it for the TD record should be interesting.

My assessment of the Jets is in three words- they are terrible. I wasn't expecting them to go 12-4 more like between 7-9 wins and they may still get there but so far they have looked bad. Let me take that back they have some talent and they should have won a couple more games (ie GB, NE maybe Det & Chi). They make too many mental mistakes and they just seem like they are not prepared. I place a lot of blame of the GM for not trying to field a competitive offense.

Slash, noooo!

Favre will never throw another TD pass for the Packers unless Rodgers break his legs.

In fact, Favre will never throw another pass in the NFL. The guy is done.

Well, their hard part of the schedule is over now. Granted they played pathetically vs Green Bay (after the first half), Chicago, Detroit and San Diego. Their remaining opponents aren't as difficult (but if the team isn't that good that's a terrible way to describe the remaining schedule). They will be up against Buffalo twice, Miami twice (both teams are probably not playoff bound so it/they is/are a/- winnable game(s). Also against Minnesota, Kansas City, Steelers and Titans. I could see them finish 7-9 idealistically.

How about we kick off a jolly old Sunday of football? Yes? I say "jolly old" since we got ourselves some action in London at Wembley Stadium. It's AnthonyD1993's Detroit Lions vs. the Atlanta Falcons coming up at 9:30 AM EDT. Lots of other matches to come including the Green Bay Packers at the New Orleans Saints in the Sunday Night Football match.

It's Sunday here in Houston, so good luck to all of your team(s) if they are playing today or tonight.

Holy Comeback! Down to the Atlanta Falcons 21-0 in the first half, the Detroit Lions mounted a comeback to win 22-21. The winner was Matt Prater with a 48 yard field goal. It would have been a 21-19 loss initially since a botched snap costed the Lions when Prater just barely pushed it right, but a delay of game penalty gave Detroit the second chance. Prater certainly made the most of it to put the lions with a 6-2 record at this point in the season.

2 straight comebacks for Detroit. Atlanta is now 6-18 since the beginning of 2013.

Geno Smith has forgotten what team he is on.

Geno Smith never knew what team he is on.

FTFY :P

EDIT: Well, I failed with editing that quote. Great job me.
Smith is doing a better job playing QB than you are quoting me. Yeah, we need to bench you and get in the back up .

Maybe I should just walk away from my computer since I'm still in shock at the Lions comeback and can't think properly as a result.

Of course, on second thought, at least I didn't add a piece of my tax class homework on accident. That would have been utterly humiliating. And back to football- Geno Smith just got benched.

Jets have decided to expand their reach, have infected the Bears who are getting demolished by the Patriots. 38-7 at halftime.

I was talking to a friend who is a Bears fan and we both brought up a point that we agreed on. The Bears have a terrible defense, and most of the big draft picks recently went to the offensive side of the ball. The Lions did that for years, and look how that wound up for the team. Thankfully, the Lions stopped doing that, and the team is finally showing progress. When you have a defense that is basically swiss cheese, you won't be winning in the NFL. The same thing goes when the bad Jay Cutler decides to show up in the game against the Patriots.

What a disappointment the Bills are. No, what a disappointment the playcalling is. Who calls a run play on 2nd and 16 in your own territory? The Bills get the lead by passing, but Nate Hackett can't learn that. 24-7 because of the QB, so lets just run the ball(and then blow the lead because of the over-running)...like come on. 🤬:grumpy::banghead: The defense is playing a great game, but the offense can barely manage first downs.

The game should be like 52-17. Jets have no business playing anyone. At this point they have no QB and no secondary. Harvin does nothing if there's no QB. Sad thing is that the HC will get axed and it's not entirely his fault.
