So, to Pete Carroll, "doing everything right" meant not giving it to Lynch when he is at his best. Granted, he took the blame for calling that play, but he should know better than to do that. Also, you "didn't get beat by a better team." The game was a stalemate the whole time so in my eyes you lost to an equal rival. You lost by making a boneheaded play against that equal rival.

In my opinion Seattle won it due to the massive plays they managed to pull off in clutch situations other than the bluff at the end.

Eh, don't like either team. But I'm glad the Pats won just to see that soul crushing look on that prick Sherman's face. I don't think I've ever felt like karma was better served in a pro sports game than that. All in all it was a pretty even matchup too. Plus now I never have to see Sherman's soup ad on TV again.

EDIT,

If you're wondering why they didn't let Lynch run the ball on that play, it's because only once, out of five times, on the 1 yard line was Lynch ever able to get the touchdown, a 20% success rate. After learning that, I can see why they decided to pass the ball.

Why did the Pats win? Simple. The Seahawks just plain ran out of luck. It was a bad throw by Wilson, and a worse call by Carroll. You don't throw an inside slant with a DB flashing inside. If anything, throw it back shoulder. Also, throw it into the dirt. Oh well.

They were never going to run Lynch inside against New England's goal line package. Are you kidding me? That's a thousand pounds of man they'd have to move off the line-- and that's just the interior.

I understand the reasoning behind Pete Carroll's decision. However, they should have taken a timeout or thrown a corner fade. They played with fire and got burned.

ESPN is now reporting that Sherman will likely need Tommy john surgery. Turns out he was playing with torn ligaments, damn.

I was most upset with this game because the Seahawks ruined the perfect opportunity to be the first-ever team to win a Superbowl by the Fair Catch Kick. They erased this last hope for victory when Michael Bennett got called for Encroachment just as Brady was about to take an intentional safety. They should have done everything they could to let Brady take the safety, and then had their returner fair catch the free kick. They would have been down by two and Hauschka would have had the final opportunity to kick a 70-80 yard field goal with a running start-- just like a kickoff, sans tee. He regularly kicks touchbacks, so this would have given him a card-player's chance of making it and winning it all.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about:

I hate dumb football.

^ That would have been amazing.

I'm still shocked they threw at the goal line with the game practically in the bag. It doesn't matter what formation the defense is in, the reason you don't throw in that situation is that there is a chance you turn the ball over. Great play by Butler, the Pats rookie who had the pick. As Collins pointed out, he was either making a play on that ball or being completely embarrassed and giving up a wide open go-ahead touchdown to Seattle. He chose correctly.

Oh and Sherman's face after the pick, priceless.

They should have ran a Play Action Pass with Wilson rolling out right with a tight end and a corner fade, or some type of play action pass with Wilson rolling out right. Either way, I still think they should've ran the ball on 2nd down.

I'm also wondering why Wilson threw that. He should've been able to read the defense and audible out into a read option or a draw, or just throw it behind Lockette, or just wait a second instead of snap and throw. I think Lockette would've been open and the safety wouldn't have been able to make a play on it if Wilson waited, but a linebacker might have covered him by that time.

I hope the Legion of Boom and most of the other players stick together. I want to see the Seahawks return to the Super Bowl next year for (hopefully) another championship.

And that fair catch free kick would've been cool to see. I know some kickers can easily hit 65+ in practice when there is no snap, just a hold.

And a very early Super Bowl prediction for next year is Colts vs Seahawks, Seahawks win.

Seemed like a great thing. I didn't watch it, like I said I hate both teams but I would have preferred a Pats win, truth be told. I'm happy for Brady, his GOAT argument is real.

Also Seahawks fans now know what at least one bad play call feels like...McCarthy might have lost the game the same way for the Packers. (Or he repeats the earlier game in the regular season or Rodgers makes that pass despite the call or I dunno I'm just being salty)

I'm not going to jump on the Darrell Bevell Hate train this morning, the guy won us a Super Bowl last year. Yeah it was a bad call, one of the worst in SB history, all we can do is learn from it and move on, nothing else is constructive. Besides, to those that are calling for Bevell to be fired need to realize he's on his way out anyway, he'll be head coach somewhere else very soon (in fact we just lost Dan Quinn to the Falcons this morning). I even see the rationale behind the pass play but it was still a bad call that cost us the game and more importantly the chance to repeat, that really the rub here.

We will be back to the SB in the next 3 years with a shot to win another one, but the chance to repeat is gone and the likelihood of getting another chance at that is basically all but gone.

I only just watched the second half now... had to go to bed at halftime as I was too tired, despite the fact that the game was already a good one... the last few minutes were just incredible, though... an amazing 'fluke' catch followed by a catastrophically bad call.

I feel sorry for the Seahawks - to get so close and to lose in that manner was quite incredible and must be incredibly deflating.

Brilliant game and another superb advert for NFL

edit: I had to avoid all internet, conversations and any form of news ALL DAY in order to avoid finding out who won... :)

One thing I haven't seen mentioned on TV is the pass interference call at 5:00 left in the 4th on the Seahawks, that went uncalled, and ultimately led to the drive that Brady scored the game winning touchdown on. It was a blatant pass interference, and there were no flags thrown.

I think the refs missed a few calls on both sides.
am happy they left the flags in the pocket for most of the game and let football be football. It was a pretty clean game on both sides for the most part.

Great battle between two great teams from different playing styles.

It broke my heart on that last play, but up to that point I was at the edge of my seat all game. The Superbowl along with the NFC champ game this was probably one of the most exciting seasons I've ever had.

If it were me I would have ran with Lynch first then used the timeout and gone for those tricky short passes, but I can completely understand why Pete went that way. Russell could have thrown a better ball too, right at his chest or slightly behind to make it safe, and Lockette didn't sell the play well either he was suppose to fake a fade and cut in he just cut and starred Russell down telling the DB everything.

Awesome season can't wait for next year. GoHawks.

Dat Chris Matthews dou.

Could we see another super bowl winning coach suspended for the entire following season like Sean Payton and the Saints a few years ago?

Unless they found he was having this done for years, no way. I'm sure most would agree that bounties on players is much more serious.

Yeah I doubt they will ever trace it back to Bill, Tom maybe but even then they will play it off they cant take anything away at this point anyway so I doubt the Pats are even concerned. I personally dont care if they were messing with their balls I just dont like how sneaky they are about it.

Especially After Toms interview where he did not directly deny knowledge of what may or may not of been going on. I mean come on man if you didnt know anything about it, I would think it would be easy for you to just come out and say "I had no knowledge around any of this, and the allegations are false/made up." DONE, but nooooo he kinda ran around mixing words up, same with Bill.

It did put a strange vib on their win though.

The main difference between the bounty scandal in New Orleans and the deflated balls in New England is that the Patriots, who have been accused of several instances of cheating, we're messing with the integrity of the game. It's like the crew chiefs in NASCAR constantly trying to skirt the rules for the tiniest advantage.

There is already news of Atlanta being accused of pumping artificial crowd noise out of speakers at home games and it is rumored that they will likely at least lose draft picks. This was on the ESPN ticker before the Super Bowl.

Well, a day after that gut-wrenching lost, I have moved from denial and anger to depression, to finally acceptance.

We will come back and win the Super Bowl next year. Stronger and better.

Here's some pics/clips showing how Butler won the Super Bowl for the Patriots...

Also shows a really bad route by Lockette. On a short slant like that, you have to come toward the ball. He faded back towards the endzone and screwed up the timing of the route. If he would have kept the route straight and crisp, Butler would not have been able to make a play on the ball like that.

I'm still surprised Butler didn't get the MVP. He single-handedly saved the game.

The MVP award is usually only given to the player with the most appealing statistics. Or whoever the winning team's quarterback is.
