NFL General Discussion

Or the 49ers.

Those are the only teams I think have a chance of beating the Packers.

If the 49ers can score some TD's in the redzone or get a TD period. I'm a Niners fan but they can't always rely on David Akers. Got a good defense though.

And the winner of Falcons at Saints... in a 45-16 rope-a-dope beat down... THE SAINTS!!! Stats I've read: 309 yards for Drew Brees, 4 touchdowns, and picked off twice. Black and gold still defended home turf.

It wasn't a very Merry Christmas for the Bears, as they got spanked 35-21 at Green Bay. Who the heck is going to beat the Packers come playoff time?

I think the Steelers could if Ben is healthy and we don't turn the ball over.

And congratulations to Drew Brees on his new record.

If the Chiefs can beat the packers, anybody can. Except, you know, St. Louis, Indy, and Jacksonville.

But playoff football is totally different. I don't expect the Pack to roll on everyone like they've been doing during the regular season. Still think they'll repeat though.

Playoffs. Just like fashion, things are "in," and things are not. So who's IN the playoffs at this point? Here they are:

AFC: New England (AFC East), Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Houston (AFC South)

NFC Green Bay (NFC North, home-field advantage), Detroit, New Orleans (NFC South), Atlanta, San Francisco (NFC West)

Time to fill out the field this coming weekend. One last chance to make something happen. This is the time of year when teams you usually don't care about... are teams you care about, but only because of playoff implications. No doubt the biggest match will involve the Cowboys and Giants for the NFC East.

The NFL Pro Bowl selections are proof that voting doesn't work and democracy sucks.

Cam Newton is a first team alternate? I didn't think he was that good.

It's a travesty that JJ Watt isn't even in the conversation and yet scrub-ass Freeney on his loser team is going to Hawaii. WTF?

While I'm bummed that John Ryan didn't make the NFC's punter and Marshawn Lynch didn't get a running back spot, I am still glad Earl Thomas got the starting job at free safety. I like to call him mini-Polomalu because he has that natural sense for the ball and seems to be in, or near the conclusion of every play.

Shows you that the pro bowl is just a popularity contest. How does Adrian Wilson get the starting SS over Roman Harper?

Wilson's Stats: 62 TCKS 0 SCKS 1 INT 1 FF
Harper's Stats: 92 TCKS 7.5 SCKS 0 INT 2 FF

And whats even stranger is how Eli gets the third quarterback spot over Matt Stafford.

Eli's Stats: 26 TDS 16 INT 4587 YDS 60.3 CMP% 90.3 RTG 8-7 Record
Stafford's Stats: 36 TDS 14 INT 4518 YDS 63.7 CMP% 96.6 RTG 10-5 Record

The NFL Pro Bowl sucks.

Fixed that for you.

It's the most over-hyped sporting event of them all.

At least the NHL All-Star match features scoring and goalies doing their best to keep things interesting.

Yeah I know it sucks. But it sucks even more when people only get votes for name recognition without merit.

I suppose the point was so that small-market teams could feasibly garner support for Their Man who was statistically great, but in a bad team. The drawback is that anyone can get voted in.

They should pick by committee, player, and coach selection. Fans are dumb.

Both Eli and Philis don't deserve their spots IMO, there are better QBs in the NFL than them this year. And, for me, the Pro Bowl *really* started to go downhill when they moved it to before the SB. Now it's just a game of "the best of the rest" bowl.

So the No Fun League fined Lynch for wearing shoes with Skittles designs on them, and apparently earlier in the year he got fined for wearing green socks. This makes no sense to me because green is part of the Seahawks color pallet.

Yes the pro-bowl selections are ridiculous. London Fletcher, of the Redskins leads the league in tackles, and is the most consistent defensive player in the league, and gets snubbed out of a pro-bowl spot.

This is getting kind of ridiculous. They fine Lynch for having skittles on his cleats, fine like 5 Saints players for wearing red and green tape on Christmas weekend, and fine Wes Welker 10k "wearing an unauthorized hat in a postgame interview." So they fine someone 10k for wearing a hat but fine Trent Cole 7500 for a cheap shot on Russell Okung that ended his season.

I just don't understand. I get a line has to be drawn but my god some stuff just has to be okay. It has to be a case by case basis. I really miss the all out TD celebrations too. Who cares if T.O. wants to pull a sharpie out of the upright and sign a ball? I do think the line should be drawn at somebody impersonating Plaxico shooting himself or Randy Moss' mooning incident though.

Tomorrow is when you start caring about teams you otherwise don't care about because... playoff races depend on certain teams winning and certain teams losing, just so YOUR team (granted they are in the mix) can make the postseason. My Texans are already in as a 3rd Seed and after clinching the AFC South. Well... sink or swim- who'll fill out the playoffs? We'll find out on New Year's Day!

More than ever, best of luck to all of your teams, especially those who have playoff hopes.
