No Full HD for consoles? In 2011? Great, just great. With all its many flaws, GT5 is 1080p. Is there a rational, technical, politically correct explanation for taking us gamers a couple of years back in terms of display resolution or are we just not worth it?

PS: For the record, 1080p utilizes 2¼ more pixels than 720p.

One of GT5's biggest problems is 1080p...the PS3 just cannot cope with it causing major frame drops and the worst screen tearing I've seen in a game.

No need for 1080p this gen!

If you want to use 60fps and then even 1080p in a racing game you have to get rid of alot of things such as Motion Blur, Track details , and high resolution textures.
I rather have the full package and locked 30fps with 720p it doesn't bother me in anyway. The Veyron Video looks great. I like the Bodyroll :)
The uploader said in the comments he'll upload a full 5 Lap Race with the Z06 later the day :D

CarreraGT
Is anyone else worried about this video? This is a professional driver and he spends most of the lap off the driving line, missing apexes etc. I hope the handling model isn't that sloppy, and that he was just mucking around...

I do like the sound though, and the graphics look good

I disagree, I must be terrible too then.
Looking at that vid, he took one corner different to how I would.
Overall a pretty sound lap IMHO.

new video, tomorrow nurburing at night, damages and crashes

I look forward to that...these user videos prove more helpful than the marketing spiel EA and Slightly Mad dish out. The more I see of these unedited replays the more I feel I might just like this game.

To be totally convinced though, I'll need to hear some positive feedback about how cars handle with a wheel (driving force GT, G25) etc and FFB. Also I wonder what AI behaviour is like on the hardest difficulty setting.

If they're all confirmed as good then it’s a definite buy for me :)

So how come we get proper championship series' like GT1 and GT3 along with the proper cars and tracks in a 'racing game' but we cant get that in the so called simulator called GT5? I'll definately be buying S2U.

Because PD messed up. They should have been doing the same thing with Super GT and WRC. They had the licences, but just didn't use them for anything other than a couple of random races.

Also, watching that video I feel like I suddenly clicked with the look-to-apex cockpit cam. If you're looking through the inside front corner of your car and up the road, it gives you a perfect view. It might have just been that one time, but I'm actually interested in giving this a go now. Before I just assumed it would give me motion sickness.:sly:

Comparing these new videos i notice that the Veyron cockpit view does not shake as much, front and back head movement seems reduced and it does not look at the apex on corners as compared to the Corvette video.

I hope there is a setting in there to reduce head movement, i not a fan of the "shaking". The apex view looks promising though.

I think its just the 2 different cockpit views in action, in the Veyron it looked like the standard cockpit view whereas the Vette video was using elmet cam more.

That's because there is a static cockpit view and the helmet cam (which has the G forces modled). You can see in the Corvette video part way though it switches to the static cockpit cam.

Sounds good, It would be nice if you can enable the apex lookie thingy on the no shaky cockpit view.

Impossible, it looks to the apex only in helmet cam or shaky cockpit as you call it:) while the other one is the same of shift 1 but narrower.

you can count the amount of games that run on native Full HD with two hands, even uncharted only runs on native 720p.

Sorry if I burst your bubble with your beloved PS3.

He is way off the apex in like half of the corners, don't even count where he ran totally offline at turn 5. And look at those steering input!!!

Top Darts is one of the 1080p games

On-topic, the helmet cam on the 'vette video looks awesome. 1st thing i'll try definitely.

Also look at the oil splatter on the drivers window... For some reason I thought this kind of details would be implemented only on the front window 👍 👍

@EA - February is he shortest month and the wait would be less... painful 💡

Don't be sorry. But exactly how many fingers do you have on each hand? I wonder. Maybe your bubble's even bigger than mine. What about this (http://wikibin.org/articles/list-of-full-hd-1080p-ps3-games.html) and this (http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2007/11/05/list-for-ps3-games-with-1080i-1080p-output-hdtv-support.htm)? I never read Gray's Anatomy or won the Fields Medal but, excluding polydactyly, aren't you supposed to have no more than 10 fingers? :)

Turn 5 he went wide but he made the apex on the rest.

We will agree to disagree lol.

I just cannot wait to get my hands on !!!
In my personal opinion is this the first racinggame which comes visually close to the real thing. The advanced motion blur the sound the FOV. Just wow... And the physics seem good too. I'm excited :D

Never heard of "a figure of speech"?

and those in the list ain't all native 1080i, some are merely upscaled 1080i, just the upscaling is done within the game engine and not by the PS3, if you want a list of games that has NATIVE 1080i, you should look at this list:

http://community.us.playstation.com/thread/2247017?start=0&tstart=0

And note how little of those game are full 3D, most are casual 2D games, so bottomline is the resolution of Shift 2 is nothing to be complained about.

Just look at this list and how many AAA games are running at 720p:
http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=46241

This HD console generation it ain't.

Hyperbole aside, the point is that 1080p is by no means the standard for this generation. 720p is. That's the minimum standard that games are expected to reach, and any game not outputting in 720p should be rightly mocked. Many of the so-called 1080p capable games are upscaling to reach that 1080p, and even with those games included in the list it's by no means a majority of PS3 games.

There are good reasons why many developers either choose to reach 1080p by upscaling or simply omit the feature. The hardware isn't powerful enough to support that sort of resolution as well as many of the other features that people expect in games. GT5 is a great example, to render in 1080p they had to sacrifice frame rates, shadow and smoke quality, environmental quality, and probably a bunch of other stuff that we don't know about.

I'd love all games to be in 1080p, but I can understand why devs choose not to.

.

Exactly.

Although 1080p is the nice goal, this-gen can't really reach it without heavy compromises.

There are many ongoing debates on tech-savy sites will even next-gen give us native 1080p content under 60 fps, because in praxis it means 8X greater performance than this hardware outputs while doing native 720p/30 fps.

And above "8X greater" means strictly without any additional lighting/post-processing effects/4XAA/tessellation/etc. - but keeping only this-gen level of graphics and making it go 1080p/60 fps.

It remains to be seen what will next-gen give us, but unitl than any game that can output native 720p/60 fps and look decent should be considered as technical masterpiece.

Never heard of "a figure of speech"?

Easy way out. Bottom line is even though 1080p is not as frequent as 720p, which is true, your witty assertion that Full HD PS3 games are so rare they can be counted on your two hands was definitely wrong. I proved it to you and you've implicitly admitted it. And my initial question was: why downgrade the console version as opposed to the PC one? Oh, and this is no poetry class: I like facts better than metaphors.

^ 5 consecutive online wins is ****ing hard, this trophy needs to be boosted with a partner. All the others looks easy like shift 1.

Bottom line is that you have 22 games to play on your PS3 and Shift isnt one of them so please find another thread to post your insatisfaction (try this>https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=190971) and leave this thread alone for the people that want to find out more details about the game.

Less powerful hardware? Like, way less powerful? :dunce:

Either way, I said it before: With what's available, it's alyways a trade off with the different kinds of eye-candy. PD opted for 1080i and 60fps, SMS are opting for smooth shadows and smoke... Because you can't get everything at once.
