Graphically the finished version of the game looks great. Way better than Shift1, and he's playing the 360 version, so PC will be even better.

Surprisingly, there are no warnings for cutting chicanes (at least on the London track he cut quite a few of them and no warnings). Even shift 1 had that. I also saw this guy drive backwards during drift and it also didnt disqualify him. Wonder if he turned it off somehow or the detection logic is worse than it was in Shift 1??

Fantastic! Im at work so cant watch the stream, which races have the rolling start? It would be nice if it was an option for quick race.

Not 100% but i think it was an endurance race.

The chicane issue i think is different because it was a street circuit? How great did that London track look!!

Anyone else see the Porsche 918 in the live stream? Was this announced before or is this new info?

It's at 1:16 in part 2, for sale for 550k, mid engine V8 with 4WD.

Haha, no its alright I know you were being sarcastic :). Just thought you were having a go at those of us who are not entirely content with the whole track widening fiasco.

I'll be honest, Bathurst is the only one that really bothers me, but it's not going to stop me buying the game

Yeah, after the bore-fest that is GT5, I'm just looking for some exciting racing. The rest is just details.

lol overhaul mod...
i can't get this on my ps3 ;)
so i have to pray for good physics from the beginning..

haha so true!

imho, I'm starting to see more and more games billing themselves as 'racer simulators' as we see from the NFS2U adverts. I think this is a way around anything quanitifiable such as realworld physics. I do not expect this game to have anything in the physics engine approaching realism, but it may still be a fun game and better for racing than GT5!
:)

Each to their own, although I do agree that we need some excitement after GT5.

Personally, I'm a huge racing fan so I consider track accuracy to be pretty important. If they were modelling them from scratch, fair enough you could forgive them for being a bit out. But if they are building them from CAD data then modifying them for one reason or another, then I don't necessarily agree with that.

It's just that this is the only game that has Bathurst and I, like all Bathurst fans, want to see them do it justice! :)

Dont think he has Elite handling on as it looks identical to Shift 1 👎

Elite mode, as has been confirmed, is just a "no assists" mode. Physics should be the same between all the possible "modes". If anything assists should make it seem to have better physics, since even the weaker drivers should have more control over the car.

Anyone know why the rear view mirror is blank in the Lotus Elise and Exige in Shift 2? Is it because there is no back window? If so, why is there a rear view mirror at all in the cars? Just curious. Thanks!

Which is the only mode you can really test the handling

True, if you are actually playing the game. I'm just saying that watching someone else play in theory it should look better with assists on (assuming they are not such a great driver). Also, this guy is playing with a pad, so I'm not sure how much of an improvement in physics we can pick up. I'm just looking to get an overall feel for the game. It's not going to be a breakthrough in racing gaming, but it seems like a solid game, which has improved on most things from Shift1.

^ I agree. It's always difficult to gauge how the physics feel by watching a video of someone else racing (especially with a pad), but seeing someone cut some clean, fast laps would help.

The cars have rear view mirror. That's why its there. I really doubt you can see anything if you seat on the real car though and that's why the rear mirror shows nothing.

Even my current car has that problem. They're doing smaller and smaller rear windows...

Just notice while "browsing" the video in justintv (the one that has 2 parts) you know who is using assists by the corresponding flashing symbols. Shift 1 also has those but i've missed them in shift2 videos until now...

Elite mode still allows assists except steering and braking help, so does pro mode, so I think it might be an altered driving model for Elite mode.

It's conversation between two sim racers, one of who happens to be on the QA team for Shift 2 and is a very interesting read. It seems a lot of what we're seeing (and possibly even the version Jordan played) is an older build. The comments state that the older build didn't have the FFB sorted and it's light and day difference between the old build and the final one.

They also mention that the physics had to be 'dumbed down' slightly to allow controllable play on a gamepad, but are still pretty full on. I personally think that Shift 2's physics will be well ahead of GT5's, and I think the GT5 physics had many problems anyway (suspension modelling, tyre width/size not modelled etc), it's just a good estimation at what driving the cars shoudl 'look' like.

Thanks for sharing! Sounds awesome. Now I cant wait for Tuesday. Probably will have to dip out of work early, the UPS truck usually gets to my house @3pm, so I wanna be there the second this thing arrives.

Hopefully they were playing an old build at this community event. Did you guys read this front page article?

Sounds like "float"-yness is in, this could mean the build they had was old, if we go by what this EA tester said.

Why not have force feedback sorted out months ago?
I dunno, I just dropped my expectations a couple notches.

I gave shift1 another go tonight, and aside from the boat-racing aspect, it was okay. It's not like I was having trouble getting around the track, it just didn't feel much like I was in a car. Though it did look and sound a lot more like I was in a car than I am used to. I don't know what kind of stock mx-5 belches flames from its exhaust, but obviously the one SMS modeled for shift1 must have. :dunce:

While reading I noticed that he said even Jordan might i've played an earlier build so... who knows... lets wait for the game and also for Jordan's preview...

[edit] seem to have missed jordan's comments yesterday [/edit]

We definitely weren't playing with the final build, as our games had all the debug menus exposed (let's just say that was very interesting to see... ;)). However, this question was brought up and I didn't get the impression (from what we were told) the underlying game we were playing would differ from the final build in any way. Myself and hushypushy from RaceSimCentral gave them a lot of feedback with regards to the wheel so it would be great to see they've made some changes.
