Seems like the game gets freaked out when, in it's own processor, two cars are taking up the same amount of space. The way I'm thinking about it........signal comes over the internet into the PS3, giving it info as to where each car in the race is located.....speed/acceleration/etc......in the amount of time it takes for the PS3 to process that information.....you un-knowingly drive your car into the same space that is being taken up by a competitor. When the PS3 goes to refresh in-game, it freaks out with two solid objects taking up the same space. The only thing it can figure out to do about it......consider it a crash!! Boom....we have liftoff!

Now, it's a definate possibility that I'm completely off base with this.....but it's a possible cause for these incidents. I can really see it being the case in the Brands Hatch replay from this past weekend. Watching the replay from both drivers' cameras, it looks like Lefty and Mo's cars' took up the same space for a second.......que the Shift freakout!! Let me know what you guys think about this....

It definately stinks that Shift makes it so difficult to race clean. I know what each of you are going through. Considering all our memberships in this league, I would imagine we all have a measure of competitive-ness that isn't matched too often in, say, an online game of checkers!!! Shift doesn't help our 'spirit to compete' when it turns us on each other. The way I think about it, theres always next week!!

Speaking of next week.......I still can not wait! I raced online for a bit last night in public lobbies.......let me tell ya! How does one sit there and decide that......in an 8 lap race......they'd rather drive at a pace for a few laps......only to try and screw the leader out of a win!!! That RS4 is a MONSTER!

If you're running a game, and Bruce joins from australia, Baltazar joins from poland, and Bill joins from the US, you can have a hell of a large potential round trip time. Bill will probably be close to the US matchmaking server, but he'll still be 100ms behind what's 'actually' happening there or with other people from the US. Bruce and Baltazar will see what Bill did 3-400ms after Bill does something. And Baltazar or Bruce can potentially be as much as 600-800ms behind on their reactions to each other. That's getting up to 80-90 metres reaction distance at 350kmh. This is before you get into packets simply getting lost in transmission or lag spikes, etc, which tend to get worse the longer you spend on the big international trunks.

That's good info to know.
I've been in some pretty good races, only to get asspacked by
someone who has been racing clean.

Well fellows I think we have hit a threshold in the game that totally reflects Box’s point of view. In the real world I race others close and it takes an expert to induce predictability that can be exploited by another expert. When I raced against Mo at Brands Hatch we were defiantly at that level of sparing and it was as close to stalking as one can expect to ever get in the game. That kind of give and take I think is what everyone who drives online against real people strives to get to, it’s what I call “running at speed”. I also think that Mitsu nailed it as well, we were so closely matched when we battling side by side it freaked the program out. I have to look at this 3 lap dice as the panicle of the game, yes Shark was gone but me and Mo were in the zone and we were experiencing the true threshold of the game. I am still so blown away that someone from Hungary can race real time against someone from California with such predictability that you can transition from cyber fantasy to a point of reality.

The strange thing is, if I play only with Shark (we live about 10km from each other), the problem is still up.. in gameplay there is no difference if you live in Hungary or in California.. specially I have the most lag problems when I race with Shark!
I can't tell you how many times i saw him flyin' and spinnin' above the track as a helicopter, and how many times I called him on phone to give sound to my anger when he pushed me out LOL of course he had the same problems with me..

Good point, Lefty! While I can't speak for everyone here, as you've been racing together for some time, one thing I miss is that predictability.

Racing in real life, you've probably been on that track with those particular racers for quite some time over that racing weekend. In between practices, qualifying, warm up, multiple races, we've gotten to know those drivers very well. We know that the orange car turns in early for turn 3, we know the white car brakes too late for 6 and goes wide every lap. They're predictable, we know what they're going to do before they do it. Result? We can be that much closer to the edge along-side them.

I saw that in the dice between you and Mo, that little bit of extra knowledge of each-others' driving, and it was great!! Was it ruined by a glitch/laginess? Definately! I'm going to go on a limb and assume that you both still had a great time up until that point, though. That fact there, my newly acquired friends, is why we should keep this league going strong!!

I don't have that kind of knowledge with any of you.....you guys don't know much about my style, either!! We'll learn, I'm sure, but we'll still not be able to overcome this glitch every time. All we can do is do our best to drive like gentlemen, stay patient, and have some great fun until GT5 comes out! I dunno about you guys, but my finishing position matters a whole truckload less than the amount of fun I'm having with you all!

Since I’m all about the fun aspect of racing period, racing against expert drivers is what creates the predictable nature of the experience that can never be understood unless you apply the time to hit that level. When I used to race MX some of my buddies who were experts and had not raced for a few years would sneak into an amateur race at the HANGTOWN MX classic to try to do some cherry picking, only to find themselves surrounded by unpredictable half out of control struggling endo magnets. Yes they got taken out by bad calls and they would either end up in the ambulance or have a bike that was twisted and broken, lol…

I just know it's weird. Are we doing any races again this weekend? I'm hoping so. I'd like to know what cars were using so i can map out a good tune for them instead of throwin the car together at the last second.

where do i sign-up?

I'm sure we will have some race, but please be a bit patience, I'm sure Jay will post the combos as soon as he will have a bit time!
If you want to make some work on a car, make a 911 GT2 14 rated for the Friday Endurance run until you get information for the League cars!

Mitz here Is the link to the videos I didn't post sorry. https://www.gtplanet.net:80/forum/showthread.php?t=126372#post3788961

And guys I'm sorry for the delay I'm up to my neck In work I will update the results ect as soon as I get a spare 5 minutes.

Think you'll enjoy them though.

So It's for now.

Race 1... 8 laps, Laguna DB9 coupe 12.20 points

Race 2... 2 laps, the ring Maserati GT 10.00 points

Race 3...8 laps, Mont grand Alfa RC8 13.00 points

Race 4...10 laps, Lakeside Falken tire mustang

Mitz normally I try to match a car to a circuit but this week I picked 4 cars and a friend PSN'd my 4 tracks so yes totally random.

Now go get tuning guys and have fun.

I haven't tried them, but the combos sounds great!

The only thing what will couse interesting moments for us is the Monte Grande race. As we know well, there are those funny little **** blue things in the sideways. I think this time I will drive much more carefully than ussually because I don't want to be the person who makes the race to a desruction derby with hitting them into the middle of the track...
Maybe if everyone could drive a bit slower and more carefully on the sectors where these roadbloks are maybe we can avoid this problem.
I know, the lags can couse that those blue things get into the middle of the track too, we can't do anything in this case, but if we try to drive over them a bit slower and we give a bit bigger distance between our car and the blue things there will be less chance to crash them.

Looking forward for the races so much!

If anyone has some laptime already from the combos, please share it with us!
it should help for the new members (and for me too LOL )

Mitz: here you can find all races I've recorded since I'm a member here

Thanks for the heads up on the combos, Jay. No problem with the work thing, we all know real life comes first!! Did some practices last night after buying and tuning, very fun combinations!! I have to admit too, I've never driven on Mont Grande in this game, how cool is it that we have a quasi-montecarlo in game!!

Those blue things DO seem to be a huge pain in the arse. The cars don't run into them like they're filled with hay either, more like rocks!! I'll do my best to avoid them!

As far as lap times go, I think I actually might be mildly competitive at Laguna, just because it was my favorite track in GT4!! While I kept forgetting to equip my tuned DB9 while practicing, I could dip into the 1.36s with the stock DB9. As for the 'Ring, our lap times will depend far too much on our prowess with those 70+ turns for us to compare. I'm truly looking forward to that one though, as positions seem to change quickly and are often hard fought! I grabbed a 2.05 at Monte, need a whole lotta practice there! As for Lakeside, I hit 56.9.....all while making those rear tires never want to talk to me again!

Had a great time practicing a bit with Shark and Seth last night, thanks a bunch for the invite guys!

Had a question I thought of last night too. When we race over the weekends, we do a one lap race before the full length. I can't say I know what, exactly, to do in these short runs. I'm never aggressive, but are we allowed to pass, or must we pace each-other around the track. I like the concept, as it gives us a feel for the side-by-side racing we all eventually have to engage in. Thanks in advance for the response, guys!

On a completely off note-- I'm having a dang good time getting to know you all! I'd like to get to know the community more, too. Plus, it gives us something to talk about during the weeks....besides our wait for GT5!! So.....what kinds of cars do we all drive?? Sorry if you've all talked about this before.......but I own a whooole bunch of cars.....not too many are worth much- but I love 'em!!

Currently, I'm driving my summer car....a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (woah, too long of a name!) 500 hp at the crank....400 at all four wheels.....the works. I have the 1993 Honda Civic race car, a crappy 97 Jeep Wrangler, and a couple of 1991 Suzuki Swift GTs(super fun!). So, there's where the name comes from......Mitsubishi......Suzuki.......Looking forward to hearing what you guys have to say!!!

Aah, thats a good idea Lefty!! Thats what I'll do this evening....get all my pics together....we can have show N tell!! Now remember guys, besides the Evo, none of these cars are even remotely quality.....I'm not much of a car washer.......more of a car dirty-er!!

Right now, I have the two 1991 Suzuki Swift GTs (one with Japanese spec Cultus engine....110hp wooo), a 1993 Mazda Miata(w/ about 67 hp), a 1985 BMW 535I(purple!), a 1972 Nova SS(500hp smallblock), the 1997 Jeep Wrangler(rock sweet jumps!!), the 1993 Honda Civic DX(with type-R engine!), the 2003 Evo, a 2006 Honda CBR600RR(scary!), and a 1997 Suzuki Bandit 600cc standard bike(not so scary!).

Jeez, I need to get my stuff together....I've never hit 10 before! Plus, I'm getting married this coming June.....so I need to thin out the 'herd' lol!

!

Those 1 lap races are mostly to get everyone into the lobby, choose the right track/car due to that ridiculous two minute clock countdown in the lobbies. In those "races" there are no rules people do what feel they like(park and have a smoke:dopey: ,chat, or pure Destruction Derby in the old PS1 classic style:) )

About this I will send you an invite for our social group where You can go freely off topic. It's not like a Mod wanna be thing. It's just because the thread is read by many non league members and sometimes there are some quick fingers on the Report button!
Please don't take this the wrong way it's just a piece of advice to keep You out of trouble, something I would like someone had done to me when I was a newbie in these threads, before I had to learn it the hard way:indiff:

Hey, I appreciate the heads-up Arvore! I had no idea about the off-topic thing, I'll do my best to stay on subject anymore. I'm more used to just lurking on a forum, as compared to my posting on here---I'm coming up to speed! No offense taken, either!

About the one lap races- it's kinda funny you mention it.... I did use the one practice race to run out quick for a smoke!!

So i've been practicing, did some last night with a coupe of you guys, and I think I've got some good timing done with my cars- except that mustang!

For Laguna Seca with the DB9 I'm in the 1:28's, which is pretty good, could be better since the corkscrew always messes with me.

Monte Grande (monaco) with the Alfa 8C, I ran in the 2:00flats against the computer, could go faster when i get that damn track down, it's quite different from the real monaco.

The Nurb I have a little trouble with but I'm pushing 7:40's, if i can get the car to stop spinning out when using the curbs I think I could drop to the 7:30's.

Another question, are we still using the 911GT2??

You're not alone with this:)

Sorry mate, I won't explain it any more, I'm a bit tired of this.. if you read carefully my post you'll know for what will we use the gt2 (I tell you for help: it will be not used in the league this weekend) Oh well, I'll explain you once more: it is true it was a bit off-topic but I mantioned the endurance race to you (wich is not a part of the league but some of the guys often come from here to race there too, and where we will use the GT2 because you were so excited about prepareing to the race and wanted to make some setup for a car. with that, i invited you to that race, but as I see i'm really not clear sometimes..) I hope it is clear now mate...

Yeah, that is a tough one! The only way I ever get clean laps is if I try my best to avoid the curbs completely. Easier said than done, I know, but it definately helps.

I'm not sure what everyones' plans are tonight, but wondering if anyone would like to practice at around 2130 GMT. I need to get a handle on that Monte Grand track!! Do you guys know....is there a track setup at Monaco that actually resembles the way this track runs? I can't say I miss the high speed chicane!!

Count me in mate, I'll be ready for some practice if I'll have enough energy that late LOL

I don't know about all the posts, I don't go back and read the first post of the thread if that's where you put them at. I'm sure the endurance run will be fun, I just didn't know if we were doing it at the same time or what. I'll check it again though.

Forget it mate:) just prepare for tomorrow League races

Yeah that's what I'm doing. I'm trying to fine tune the Alfa and the Maser.

The Maserati is a bit tricky, especially over the curbs. hate it!

I'm goin for a quick practice before i head to bed. I'm sure i'll be up in time (2 A.M. here) to race with you guys. I look forward to the DB9 which i have put a lot of time and effort into. The 8C as well. Not too fond of monaco, but as long as the blue movable barriers aren't scattered through out the track i should be good there as well. Nurb and the Lakeside might be a bit of a trouble spot. Hope to see you guys there!

Guys unfortunately I won't be able to race tonight:indiff:
My life has been quite short on free time last week, and the W.C. has consumed great part of it...
So I wish You all good luck and great fun and we'll be seeing next week:tup:
