North Korea, Sanctions, and Kim Jong-un

This is a simple question i have been wondering for many years and i had no one to ask this about. For those who talk a lot about North Korea and such, do you/they actually care about the people over there? or only care about preventing the Government from becoming a major threat against other countries while completely ignoring the people inside North Korea?

Because i always noticed how similarly we are often compared to North Korea (i've said this before) and how plenty of people hate our countries for "enslaving women and anti-LGBT" but at the same time, they don't care at all about our women and LGBT people over here...in fact they rather watch us all die brutally. Just how i view the world really.

All US people have now been banned from North Korea. Including Dennis Rodman. There is a 30 day grace period for US nationals currently there to leave that country.

It is thought US kinetic actions against North Korea and the person of the dictator Kim will commence shortly thereafter. Regime change always begins with such lovely, pure motives. Then it turns ugly.

US detects 'highly unusual' North Korean submarine activity

Washington

The US military has detected "highly unusual and unprecedented levels" of North Korean submarine activity and evidence of an "ejection test" in the days following Pyongyang's second intercontinental ballistic missile launch this month, a defense official told CNN on Monday.

An ejection test examines a missile's "cold-launch system," which uses high pressure steam to propel a missile out of the launch canister into the air before its engines ignite. That helps prevent flames and heat from the engine from damaging either the submarine, submersible barge or any nearby equipment used to launch the missile.
Carried out on land at Sinpo Naval Shipyard, Sunday's ejection test is the third time this month -- and fourth this year -- that North Korea has conducted a trial of the missile component that is critical to developing submarine launch capabilities, according to the US defense official.

US officials also noted that a North Korean Sang-O submarine was operating in the Yellow Sea and the length of its deployment was notable. Two Romeo submarines were detected in the waters off Japan -- each one operating in the area for about a week.
Coupled with reports of increased submarine activity, news of another ejection test comes amid concerns over North Korea's launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile that appears to have the range to hit major US cities on Friday.
Experts believe if Friday's test had been fired on a flatter, standard trajectory, it could have threatened cities like Los Angeles, Denver and Chicago.
President Donald Trump told reporters at his second full Cabinet meeting that his administration will be able to take care of North Korea but offered no specifics about what he plans to do.
"We will handle North Korea. We are gonna be able to handle them. It will be handled. We handle everything," Trump said after a reporter asked him about his strategy.
Asked if the US would strike first, Trump's press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Monday that "all options are on the table," adding that Trump would not "broadcast" his decisions.
Democrat Sen. Mark Warner said on "Erin Burnett Out Front" Monday that Trump showed "enormous naiveté" by suggesting the nuclear threat from North Korea could be handled so simply.

The greatest news source the Internet has to offer.

Looks like they've got a handle on it.

Of course.

Every self respecting US President has to start at least 1 war. I just wonder if the sissies of the UN will join in, because their talks are going nowhere. The "sanctions" aren't helping either to stop Silly Kim from shooting rockets into the sea.

I think the UN is waiting for a stray rocket to accidentally hit China or Russia, or deliberately hit Japan or South Korea. And then, instead of wagging just a finger, they'll also say : tut tut tut.

China fail to use their veto in a UN vote on greater sanctions against NK. Their ambassador visits KJU to say he really really ought to stop all this nuclear nonsense now, there's a good chap. BBC.

North Korea responds to the new sanctions with some fine threats. They're threatening to use their nuclear arsenal and they will hit the USA hard.

Looks like China has lost control over their lapdog.

Anyone want to put some money on how much will be left standing if NK fires a missile that goes into Japanese or South Korean airspace?

Agreed. Is rather us use or psyops units and begin the decay the government's control over its people, allowing them to revolt, as opposed to is putting troops on the ground and starting a war.
If we flat out attack them, we will have a long, costly war, much like the first Korean war. Further, we will be fighting in their country. Terrain they have been training in for a very long time. We will win of course, buy I'm not sure to cost would really be worth it.
I'm telling ya, Gameboy airdrops FTW!

The only way US Marine or Regular Army boots would land on NK soil is if he succesfully fired and detonated a nuke on our soil.

The Navy and Airforce would dominate in a pre-emptive strike removing the need for boots.

If Trump, correction... the Pentagon decides we have exhausted sanctions and are moving forward with a strike, I highly doubt any damage to Pyongyang would occur. We're just after the development at that point, if a mission were needed in the capitol city it would most probably involve seal teams.

Kim is defiant, will not budge. I applaud his bravery, but feel sorry for his ignorance, and especially sorry for his people.

I served two tours in Iraq, I hate war. I hate everything about it.

Edit:
I don't know if a preemptive strike is viable with the uncertainty of his potential actions to SK, or Japan.

US Intelligence confirmed NK is making missile ready nuclear warheads.

I told y'all this was gonna happen. But no, the world just sits back and does nothing.
Good job cutting the head off the snake when it was asleep...

I think they(US gov) could care less if we die.

It seems there is only one path left. Depends if China is willing to take in refugees.

Thr sanctions will fall through as they have in years past.
Trump has two options.
An inside out mission removing Kim from power, or a full on preemptive strike.
When the state dept issues a no travel advisory/warning to SK and Japan we'll know he's made a decision.

So Trump said to the North Korean's that any threats against the US "will be met with the fire and fury and frankly power, the likes of which this world has never seen before".

I guess he's realised that he might as well start firing their own rhetoric back at them, seems to be the only language they understand

I assume he meant actions, not threats.

You need to take "threat" in a particular context, at least that's my opinion. By "threat" I think he means a demonstrable capability to nuke the US from a country who repeatedly claim that they will soon undertake exactly that action. Until now (presuming that NK has the capability it claims) that's been a verbal threat with no military means of support.

NK has it's sights set on Guam according to it's state media.

They must assume we are naive, when I read Guam, I believe they actually mean Hawaii.
By releasing some propaganda and naming a target like that they must assume we will scramble to get our B2 Bombers and nukes off the island, which is what they want.
Some say history repeats itself.

Your thoughts?

Have they even tested the weapon to know if it can fire accurately? While a near miss would be very bad for us, it would be near suicidal for North Korea.

They'd use their HWASONG-12 missile which has proven quite accurate at mid range targets...Guam.
It's a mid to long range ballistic, but given a nuke tip (providing they have one) it wouldn't have to be entirely accurate as nukes are designed to explode above the deck not on the ground.

Even if that happens. I can see China stepping in and defending North Korea. I know it's a horrible scenario to imagine but this is the same country that killed their own children to control it's population.

The PLA would do no such thing. They've said for years they have no interest in defending NK.

Here's an article of interest with that...
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...China-will-not-go-to-war-for-North-Korea.html

I've seen nothing that has changed their stance since that '14 article.
China needs the west more than they need NK, it's all about trade.

Edit:

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2017/0...lity-unless-us-strikes-north-korea-first.html

It appears China will defend NK if we are preemptive, but not if we're defensive.

The problem is China cares nothing if NK has nukes, they only care about the US changing the political scene on the Korean peninsula.

I say get on board Xi, you're either with us or not.

Oddly, this is XXI's quote, not mine....

I've always been curious as to how Putin views the Korean leader (given his country wraps around China and I believe, borders N. Korea at one tiny point), and the thought of a war so close to the mother land. Would he step in to aid, or would China as the buffer dictate his decisions?

...Guam? China ain't gonna let that happen - I mean, all 'em casinos there are the favourite of Chinese elites. With them all blown up, where would they go for the injection of the illicit thrills? It's not going to happen.

Well, they could all head to SK's Jeju island, but still.
