We have Black LMP GT-1 test cars in GT4. Why not white prototypes like this R8 in GT5?

Rampant
I haven't been racing for all that long, and some of these have been mentioned before, but here is my list so far...

RACING
The AI needs to be improved and made more challenging. I am tired of getting bumped by a car trying to race its line when I am clearly there already. I am also tired of the AI braking mid-corner for no reason.

The racing needs to be more competitive. For example, with equal hp, equal weight, a "standard Z" should not be able to easily beat all the JGTC cars in the Pro race. I want difficult races. Like you have to drive at least silver-level driving to remain with the leaders, and pull off some good passes to win (though maybe I haven't gottent to the difficult races yet).

RACE SERIES
Make race series more like the "real" ones. JGTC for example, have GT300 and GT500 cars running together (6-10 of each would be great). Have some BTCC, DTM, World Challenge type racing with very tight regulations on weight and hp, etc. Use the rewards/weight type system for winning, so it is more difficult to the championship.

You could also have penalties for "aggressive driving." Bump too many cars, get a drive-through penalty. Do it more, get black flagged.

CARS
Less of them. Do we really need trucks, SUVs and mini-vans? Less cars, but better and with more options.
Different price/performance for the upgrades amung the tuners. Some may offer smaller turbos, while others may offer bigger units. Some superchargers, while others perfer the N/A route. And each should have different price/performance.
Paint them different colors (even if it is selecting for colors the car is usually available in). But, please, no vinyl. (body kits would be okay though).

TIRES
Have tire shops instead of buying tires inside the tuner. Heck, you could even have to buy new tires each race, or run on old tires. That would certainly make consecutive racing a little more interesting.

VEHICLE DYNAMICS
Better represent dyno curves. For example, a 500hp Evo should have very little torque down low. And, you should blow an engine if you rev it too hard.
Also, make boost controllers an option. Have a big turbo, but want to turn down the boost, you should be able to.

CRASHES
Even if you don't model damage, at least make the car unoperable for a large crash. Hitting a wall at 150mph should do more than shake the screen a little--you should loose the race.

SPONSORSHIPS
It would be a interesting idea to via for sponsorships. Race well, attract better sponsors. Get an HKS sponsorship for example, you get free stuff, but can't use anyone elses equipment. This would make for interesting decisions if the tuners had different equipment/performance.

MINOR NIT-PCIKS
When buying wheels, it should cost more, but you should be able to put your old wheels back on.
If you buy a used car, then sell it, you should be able to get roughly what you paid for it (dependent upon use of course).

EXACTLY... ! I think the sponsorship thing is a dynamic idea

Blitz cars vs mines cars vs hks vs greddy vs dinan vs trd vs nismo , etc... I'd love that..!

The below, my crappy taste in cars, which I felt was missed in GT4. There were three dozen Skylines, but these few were overlooked.

AMC Gremlin '76
BMW Bavaria
Chevrolet Camaro '91 RS or Z28
Honda CRX '89

Majin SSJ Eric
*Real time weather and lighting
*realistic crash physics
*interactive 1st-person-view garage to view cars
*dramatically improved AI
*Porsche and Ferrari
*online play
*d/l your own music play list
*skid marks

Too bad Porsche and Ferarri are licensed by EA Games for the Need For Speed games... :grumpy:

It was the closet thing to a F1 car in GT2 wicked ride to control but unlike any van on earth deserves a return for GT5.

renaultespacef1.jpg
This would do for a minivan in GT5

The Renault Van you've showed us pic was called "Renault Espace F1 Concept".
Renault automotive company has produced that Van called Espace with 7 seats since the late 80's and by the early 90's was supplying engines to F1 Team such as Williams and Benetton.
Renault and Williams engineer crew decided to put a F1 10 cyl 3.0L engine (yes sirs, the one which F094/H has !) into an Espace chassis aiming to make it the official FIA Pace Car based on 2 facts : 1) with a F1 engine pace car on the track it could lap at an average high speed without F1 cars suffering in terms of high temperature (for the low speed they were forced to lap behind the current pace car) 2) as a van it could have been the fastest (and safest ?) first aid car.
Result of the first tests on the track:
the same condition you've faced in GT2 (I was only able to drive it in the Test Course with tyres always smokin'). Even fully modded to host that engine and support that torque they weren't able to keep it safely on the track (can you imagine a F1 driver recovered on the track who suffers for being wounded while he's on it's way to the hospital?).
So - they took over that project - and the pace car remained BMW for a few years and then - as it is now -it was replaced by AMG Mercedes.
This is a sample of how GT has been used through years as a merchandising tool from a lot of car manufacturer !
Ciao !

I'd like to see a tad more realism and customization in tuning. Such as, you can do an NA tune stage 1, this should be for EVERY car, it doesn't just benefit the NA cars, AND add a supercharger or turbo. For NA cars I don't understand why any of them, no, for ANY car, they should be able to put in a supercharger, it doesn't make sense to me that you can't. IRL I could perform the tune up like an NA tune stage 1 or 2 on my Lancer, and then slap on a supercharger or turbo kit to it. I don't like how you can't use both tuneups and chargers on cars.

Really, I'd like to scrap the whole "NA Tune/Turbo" thing as it is in GT. It should simply be "Engine Tuning", and you could buy the cams, the gaskets, forged heads, etc as you wished, buy different size turbos, superchargers, oil pump/coolers, etc. It should all be separate components to slap on there, with maybe some 'packages' to make it easier for new players. The only restrictions should be accounting for space under the hood, I wouldn't expect to be able to put in a giant 'Stage 4" Turbo into a mini or something small, due to space in the engine compartment. But something better than it is now.

Oh, and my votes for cars to include:

[Aston-Martin]
DB5
DBR9

[Ford]
'92-96 Escort (Just one, I'm not picky on the year. These cars are actually fun to drive)
'65 Mustang
Crown Vic. Any year

[Pontiac]
'81 Trans-Am

[Dodge]
'71 Challenger

[Plymouth]
'71 Duster (my dad hot-rodded one of these back before I was born, FAST CAR)

[Chevy]
Impala
Monte Carlo

[TVR]
Sagaris
Tuscan 2

[Ferrari]
'69 365
any year Dino
Enzo
F50

[BMW]
Z8 Alpina. Period. It is a crime to not have it in here already. This car is from 2000!
Z3 M (Don't like the Z4, the M Coupe is almost makes up for it but not quite.)

I think you forgot something that is so simple:

White rear light, If there is brake lights why not the white rear ones.

I would like in night races that the lights iluminate the road.

One thing missing from all the GT releases, including GT4 is a real data analysis. I mean they tell you % done and now they give you A-Spec and B-Spec points, along with win % but this is not really analysis of how you have been doing.

They should have a criticial analysis of your driving on the summary screen

like
- number of times or % that you go off the track while racing
- number of times or % that you ram into other cars
- number of RPMs or % of redline that you maintain avg per race to see how you are pushing the cars
- horsepower or other advantages you had on average for your wins and losses
- driver rating for the time you were a B license, A license, etc... holder
-- each of these for FF, FR, 4WD etc... cars

% deviation from proper race lines/ fastest line

improvement in lap times for same car/track/ per license

statistical breakdown of wins, graphing number of wins vs.
- horsepower/weight advantage
- win time over the #2 finisher
- # of laps
- overall time

same with losses.

So you see the game could very easily store a few tidbits of information after every race and give you a great analysis of how you were doing.

This would go a long way to resolve the many complants that B-spec is cheating; that people only win with highly modified cars etc.... you would have everything broken down and hopefully a good driver rating to back you up.

Plus your DRIVER RATING should change when you get the next license, so you get time to improve as you get more licenses.

I'm really shocked to see the lack of data analysis in the game, and it really should give you a rating to compare against your friends.

Just thought of some other things I wish where in GT4:

DNF. I want to DNF, and I want to see the AI DNF as well. I want to see the comp make mistakes, and I want to see them find faster lines, but above all I want to crash and be forced to retire. No cosmetic damage, just slide into wall/car at 80 MPH, your car goes slow or even stops, and you are out. I want to be able to roll the car. I want to hit something at 50mph on the left side front fender and have the suspension be out of sorts and that tire wears quicker and......

Rally's are not true rally's if everyone finishes. Most of the rally's I've watched like half the racers crash and DNF. The comp should have this happen as well, how many races do you see where every car races a perfect line without messing up or running a turn wide or short or spinning out or riding the wall? I've seen it a lot in local amatuer and Nascar and rally's on TV. Maybe not in F1 races, I haven't watched many of those, but then many races aren't F1 class in GT4. I want to see some better and some worse driving outta the AI.

I want races with better restrictions, HP limits, weight limits, and no I don't mean just one or two races, I mean MOST races should be have a weight RANGE and an HP MAX. Like, not too light and not too powerful, just so that we can have some competitive racing out here. Limits for stock configs, to full mods, etc. There should be all kinds of requirements on races that arent' as lame as the current ones.

I should be able to see the HP and mods on all cars I'm racing against before starting a race, I should be able to back out of a race before starting and it doesn't count as a loss, I should be able to see the A-Spec points before starting.

I want to be able to make custom 'groupings' in my garage, like a Rally group, or Exotic group, or Lightweight group, and I CHOOSE which cars go in there. I hate the generic groupings, theres a lot of cars that I've won that I really don't care about and I don't want to see but I can't filter out of the listings, so its harder to find the cars I DO want to see. And I don't want these to reset to a default view next time I enter and I have to resort them again, that has been my pet peeve in GT3 and 4.

Paint shop. I want to be able to repaint my 🤬 car. That shouldn't be to much to ask.

Thats all I can think of at this moment.....

i think they should add some more tracks with more up hills and downhills like that small island place...if that place was bigger it would be a great battle stage with all the hair pins and things... they should also change some of the car sounds, the sounds seem to high pitched espically the in car view, it should be a little more bassy. i don't really see how tints, and bodykits could be a part of the racing culture more like the ricing culture...sorry if that offends anybody but really tints!?! i would also like to wish for better ai, put like a learning ai,less predictable, and more realistic thing events happening like how would an nsx beat the competition so easily?! thats pretty much it for me

flamingwonky
How's about those pesky cameramen??

Random track invasions by mad irish priests/disgruntled mercedes employees/anti capitalist protestors (delete as appropriate)

weirdkerr
Random track invasions by mad irish priests/disgruntled mercedes employees/anti capitalist protestors (delete as appropriate)

yep .........thats realism for ya

I would like to be able to buy unpurchaseable (real word?, probably not) cars to be purchaseable after I win them, i.e., not having to run the 24 hours of the 'Ring to get a new F1 car, etc.

More specific upgrade combonations.

IE. Head and carb swaps, EFI increases, selection of intake manifolds and cam shafts. Ability to select how many gears your upgraded racing tranny will have as opposed to always getting six. Ability to tune the amount of boost a turbo charger or specifically a super charger will give.

Engine power graphs with the FULL rpm scale listed underneath. No more of this
idle speed at the left and max rpm at the right. What about all the stuff inbetween? You still have to guess more or less as to what RPM the powerband actually kicks in. Also the engine graph should actually reflect the powerband changes each part upgrade produces. Going from a stage 1 tune up to a stage 3 doesn't actually change the HP or Torque curve at all, it just raises them. This is not accurate.

Ability to overhaul/rebuild the engine and drivetrain.

Ability to change the song in mid race through the pause menu or something.

And this is a biggy but I think it would be cool. How about director mode in replay? You could have some preselcted cameras already placed around the track to capture the action automatically. You could then place your own cameras
through out the track in special spots to capture the action like you'd like to see it, like say a blimp view or you could set up tracking shots kinda like it does on the main straight at the ring. You could plan the cameras path, set the speed that it travels the path, which way it faces and how far it would go before switching to the next camera ect. On board cameras and the coolest...in car camera looking at your driver wrestling with the wheel and the shifter.

Elaboarte yes, but if the Driver series can do it, PD can own it!!

I would like to have more tuner cars like :

Amuse Fairlady Z (Z33)
350zamuse_WEB.jpg

Amuse Silvia S15
silvia_aero_ff.JPG

Fujita Engineering RX-7 (Feed FD3S)
rx7_l.jpg

It needs more tuner, for more fun.

I was just about to post a new thread on this very subject. I haven't read the whole thing because it's so darn long, but just skimming, you guys have some fantastic ideas. Here's some of mine.

OPTIONS and PRESENTATION
- Kazunori-san's concept of GT opening like a museum, where you race through history, with cars from each era. But more than that, include elements of all previous versions of Gran Turismo rolled into one massive game.
- Downloadable elements such as cars, tracks, skins, upgrades, body kits, music.
- Music tracks from previous versions of GT, and more "race appropriate" tunes. Match music more to suit the race, so faster races have more upbeat tunes. Bias option so some tunes play more or less, along with editing of playlists as before.
- Allow loadable music tracks from our library, either CD/.wav or .mp3/4/ogg.
- Have a library of portrait thumbnails, portrait editor, or import a thumb of your face to put in your dossier.
- Log In, where you can have different profiles or users with their own game files.

ENVIRONMENTS and EFFECTS
- Optional weather, including fog, day and night hours.
- Endurance races include the clouds, sun, moon and stars changing position with the passage of time.
- Proper headlight effects.
- Crowds react to collisions.
- Blurring and doppler effects.

CARS
- As many as possible. Cars from the previous GTs. More cars from the recent past.
- VERY few trucks, vans, SUVs and dinkmobiles.
- More European and American cars please. Saab anyone?
- More variety in the used car lots.
- Upgrade parts modelled so there are slight differences between Spoon and HKS.
- Actual tire brands as well.
- Paint shop, with decals and other skinning elements.
- Return of racing conversion.

TRACKS
- Tracks from previous versions of GT.
- Tracks from different racing leagues around the world such as Rally, Touring Car, Formula 1, etc. Australian, South American, U.S., Isle of Man!
- NO INVISIBLE WALLS IN RALLY TRACKS! Or not very close, anyhow.
- Track editor for creating courses with basic building blocks.
- More intelligent camera placement and operation, with much less staring at walls and trees, and very few low level and long distance shots. More GT2 type. User editing and placement of replay cameras. Chopper cam.

RACES
- As many as possible.
- Car damage should be optional in the novice levels.
- Engine/oil life indicator, or note of condition after each race.
- Optional random/settable time of day/night, lighting and weather conditions, but with track defaults.
- Recommended settings option for each race: gear ratios, suspension, etc.
- Victory lap, i.e. keep driving after a race till you decide to quit out.
- Victory presentation cinemas.
- Return of car performance limit races.
- Return of race event generator from GT2.
- More than six cars per race.
- Either bigger cash awards or starting budget to handle purchases and repairs.
- Model bot AI on actual driver personalities, skill level and traits. Have a library of them. Track their performance.
- Base many pro race events on actual professional race genre, such as Euro Touring Car, Rally, CART, F1, etc.

NEW RACE MODES
- Arcade and Open Mode, the traditional GT game in which you complete objectives to open up races and tracks.

- Season Mode, in which you choose a category such as Touring Car, Rally, Formula 1, and race an entire season for the championship.

- Career Mode, in which you start out as in basic GT, but work your way up through the hobby/enthusiast leagues of something like the SCCA into the pro circuits. Start with a decent budget to buy and upgrade a few quality sports cars, and then start racing. Garner sponsorships to increase your budget along with the racing prizes. Use the License Tests here to qualify for better and different racing leagues. Perhaps a budget for hiring pro garage staff. Track the progress of competitors as the season progresses. Seasons continue over the course of years, as long as you want to continue. Have something like a Speed Channel show you can open up like Replay Theater, and race commentators show highlights and critique your performance.

*whew* Well, that's my wish list. Now back to racing.

Tracks...
Solitude-ring 1935-65
Brooklands
Hockenheimring 1994-01
Targa Florio (Little madonie)
Zandvoort
Clermont-Ferrand (Charade) 1958-88
Pescara (1923-33)
Spa-Francorchamps

Cars that should appear:

I don’t really know how that is done, but I imagine that exotic car brands as Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, etc, ask too much money to be licensed to appear in the game. So, how it is possible, that a game much less ratted such as X Box’s "Project Gotham Racing" can have Ferrari and Porsche to mention some, and Grand Turismo don’t, I just can’t see why. PD and Sony should open their pockets and roll down the money. So in my personal opinion, Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, etc should appear in the GT5 right away.

Weather
Rain, snow, sunny, windy, day, night, morning, evening, foggy.....all of this should be introduced, and have it as a option when you start a ride.

In game options
When you are driving and you pause the game, more options should be available, some like, Restart race/Retry, without having to totally quitting the race.

Crash dynamics
This should be an option, that when you crash your car, it really smashes to pieces, but...only as an option. Some times, you invite to play some rookies, and having that as a default only setting should make it too harsh to them.

Tracks
As i suggested before, F1 legality and license issues should be resolved and include all F1 tracks, past and present, new and old.
Also should include just a couple of real stages of each of the WRC events.

In Machine Test• Should have an improved “Test your machine” mode, with races and tests such as:
o Acceleration tests ( ¼ mile, 1/8 mile, zero to 100 kmh or zero to 60 mph, zero to 200, and so on depending on unit system in use),
o Braking distances and times (100 kmh to zero)
o Max G loads for go, stop and lateral
o Each gear max speed
o Weight distribution front/rear
o Longest tire skid mark

Miscellaneous

• Back up light function
• More in game camera options.
• Rear view mirrors more accurate.
• Different option arrangement of in game indicators, such ass speed and rpm
• New replay indicators such as G meter.
• In all of the game versions (PAL, NTSC, Japanese) should have the option of changing the measurements between metric (SI) and in English units. In addition, the conversion from SI to English units should be done more accurately.
• Tire puncture mode (only as an option)
• A longer Test Course track, with longer oval, longer straights, bigger radius curve. I get the feeling some cars do not have enough space to stretch their legs, as they should.
• When you make a pit stop, have the opportunity to change the car set up.
• More replay options and camera angles.

Tire failure would work in very long/endurance rally races. I don't really like it, flats would be a random *bang!* you loose thing, but if it went anywhere, it should go there. Maybe repairs could be like the button mash test in Mortal Kombat, where the faster you tapped your controller, the faster you changed your flat. :sly:

It's my understanding that Electronic Arts bought the exclusive rights to Porshe, so if you want a Porshe in your game, you have to give them a big check. But I definitely concur, GT5 should have Porshe, Ferrari and Lambourghini properly represented.

Someone needs to compile the best of these ideas and send 'em to Polyphony. This is a great thread.

don't worry guys, i believe that PD and KY will have to work thier fat asses off on GT5, because GT5 will be one of Sony biggest card in PS3 VS XBOX2 battle :dopey:

I have to agree with you there. GT5 might be the last racing game you ever need, and quiet our requests for Gran Turismo on the PC. Still, that really should be done.

I just raced my butt off trying to catch an Impreza in Umbria Rally Hard. One of my relatives said my Career Mode idea sounded like Gran Turismo the RPG. I'm still in utter awe of GT4, but just thinking of that idea gives me the willies! Imagine a cinema of the winner congradulating me on a good try, and preparing for the next race, while they show highlights of my brave attempt on the Speed Channel.

Instead of people comparing their 1/4 mile times, you'd have people telling how they charted their course the quickest into some pro league like Touring Car or World Rally. Be still my heart...

just an idea, in the dealer to save scrolling and itll look better imo, in gt4 when you select a car it goes onto a menu for colour choice. well before that have another menu where you choose the year, version etc. just to clean it up a bit
