Not sure what to think of damage, it's in there and you crack somthing hard enough you'll lose your bumper, bonet, even smash your widscreen but I havn't noticed and negative reaction to the car performance wise, saying that though the penalty system takes care of 99% of idiocy and if you hit somthing your going to lose alot of time, hitting other drivers is also less reactive, if you do it pourpousfuly you'll get a penalty, if it's accidental and just a nudge or rub it really dosn't unsettle the cars a great deal if at all unless your trying to do a pit manouver. This al makes for good close racing and good clean racing. I did end up in a race with a few crazys but there ham fisted attempts at driving made little impact to the race, just lots of scrapes down the sides of there cars LOL Just be careful not to but yourself in a position of having a wheel on the grass coming upto a braking zone....it gets real sideways from that point on LOL

Ordered this on saturday and cannt wait to play it.
Like the fact of wet weather racing. Awsome tracks(SPA and Silverstone mainly).

And custom paint jobs. Just wondering if anyone knows if you can import pictures onto the car cause that would be great.

No image import available, you got to do it the hard way, and don't try Spa in the wet with the standard 355......your eyes will dry up trying to see the trak at speed and your thumps will cramp keeping that back end in check on the brakes...I wont even mention the lift of oversteer that car has LOL

I can't agree more ! this is one of my favourite aspect of the game, if you don't respect the driving line you can't expect a good time, and braking with one wheel on the grass ABS or not means offroad and spin !

Don't I know about it, F430 race in the wet at Spa, just had a back wheel on the grass at the final chicane. I then proceeded to travel the length of the start/finish straight backwards on the grass.

Entertaining but didn't do my race much good at all.

BTW - I've merged your double post.

Cheers scarf, have you noticed the AI's little trick of closing the door just enough for you to be really squeezed out onto the edge of the grass.......Evil, pure evil. I have also noticed it learns as well, I passed a number of cars on the same corner over a couple of laps by changeing my racing line.....nope 3rd lap it pourpousfully just blocked that line by adopting the line I took, not all the cars mind just the one in front of me! Also you'll see them suddenly go off line and take the inside at the expense of speed but forceing you to either stamp on the brakes or go for the outside at the last second and try and keep it all together with enough speed to get in front before the exit. fantastic to see the AI actualy learn and use some level of inteligence but it can also make "human mistakes" you can try and outbrake the AI and usualy you'll do it, but it'll sometimes try and outdo you and sometimes it'll get it wrong, yeah of they go LOL The real gem is this is not, or seems not to be a "set action" ie it feels random or rather not random but as a reaction to your actions on the track. Take overtaking for instance, take a car clean and no problems, squeze the guy or get too close and ther'll give you a friendly tap on the rear quater, nothing to unsetle your car just enough as a warning, there are times when it can seem overly agresive, cutting you up or turning in on a corner to block you but I've not been taken off as yet by these moves unlike the AI in Grid for example.
Finaly to confirm a question from earlier it dose specifiy the date of the car model in each cars specs.

Hey guys, came back form small "vacation" I see many pages have been added to this thread. So My only question(s)
Is this game a SIM? If so what game to compare it with. GTR2, GT5, etc
Is it worth buying?
If yes, Should I wait a month for US version, or Order one from Europe?
thanks

Got this yesterday had little play then again today. What stands out for me compared to prologue is emphasis on weight transfer in FC and thats what I miss in GT5P. You have to take care in entering and exiting and keep the car balanced.

Its too easy in gt5p with pro no aids to take different lines and brake at unrealistic angles with only traction, speed, with just skidding along at a certain speed and just slower times, no real tank slappers and waywardness due to weight alone. GT5p does have good visible body roll and keeping a balanced car just means more traction quicker times but it is a detailed feel, and I prefer GT5P over FC.

The rest of FC is fairly low quality in graphics like the fisheye look of other cars plus the rendering, sounds, visible movement and track feel in my view. Replays are choppy on my sony 1080p TV but in game is fine but would of preferred 720p at 60 fps as the graphics don't show any quality like in GT5P or MGS4 character models at 1280 x 1080, so it seems just like a tag.

I'm liking the game modes, tracks apart from monza, driving model of the cars. Definitely enjoyable and challenging to play and to me it's like Arcade sim like they state.
A keeper for me and the more you unlock the more you want to comeback and just play, overlooking the low quality elsewhere for a full price game. I think Bruno being part of the game has helped loads but it's let down by budget.

I would definitely rent it and stick with it for 2 days or more, but this is more a stop gap like prologue for GT5 and some bigger PC games coming soon hopefully.

My 2 cents.

edit. I'm using the G25 and the buttons mapped out but I haven't found a car in manual that has engine disengagement or Neutral yet so the clutch is pointless and you can move out forth on the shifter into neutral and the game stays in fourth and still drive. Has anyone unlocked the old cars and found a use for the clutch?

i have unlocked some old cars and the clutch doesn't work. In sequential mode the G25 shifter is reversed. With GT5p if you pull the shifter to shift up and push it to down shift, but in FC it the opposite, it's a bit disturbing...

I'm getting a little bit confused by all the reviews. At first I wasn't interested, then I got interensted and now after reading some comments I'm loosing interest again.

Due to a new law over here in Belgium it is impossible to rent the game. I even heard that this law could become "international". It is possible though, to try the game at the store for a few minutes but that is not the same.
Last saturday, it wasn't out yet, maybe today it is and I will be able to try it and see if I like it or not.

My grievance:

  • Limited use of the G25 => no clutch, FFB is too strong and can't changed, no 900° mode.
  • The last gen graphics (graphics are very important to me). It looks cartoonish and being spoiled with GT5p's graphics, I don't like cartoonish graphics anymore.
  • Not entirely sure about it being an arcade racer or a sim.
  • The way it looks. The colours and lightning seem to be very odd.
Maybe I can decide after I tried it out in the store.

Is this "no 900" a fact? I'm still wondering, since my preview-demo supported it with glance?!?

I too am very concerned with everything that I'm reading about the G25 implementation, to the extent that I´m considering not to buy the game (this game was a must have for me).
I dreamed with to can to drive the F355 or F348 with shifter and clutch, but after to read some post I see this will be still a dream.

Please, G25 owners, are you sure that?:

- Force feedback strenght can´t be regulated or reduced?.
How much force does it have, compared, for example, with GT5 Prologue?. Level 7 or 8 of the GT5 Prologue adjustable intensity?.
It is so strong that in Sega Rally Revo or Formula One Championship Edition?.

- Clutch don´t works, and can´t be switched using any button?.

And one more question:

- If the wheel do not turn 900º, how many it turns?. 180, 240, 270, 540... ?.

Thank you very much for you replies.

Best regards.

hi guys!! took me almost 3 days to get to here!! I mean I read all the pages to get an idea about what's going on! i've being discussing the game with the ps3 official forum and it's a crap! good I found this place! I've ordered the game today from you european guys and hope to be online with you guys some time soon!! cheers! :sly:

If you take a look at these screens:

Projects Ferrari

I probably going to wait for this game. It has Ferraris and knowing that the makers of this game are responsible formaking GTR, GTR2, GTL, when they were still a part of Simbin, I'm pretty sure that it is going to much better than FC. I read somewhere that the guy whom was responsible for the physics engine of RBR is now working with Blimey!games.

Let me do my best to address these (with the exception of the first one as I don't have G25).

Last gen graphics.
Nope not at all, no last gen machine could get close to this. While its not GT5:P its certainly not a bad looking game at all. The car models are very detailed, the tracks are well modelled and it certainly doesn't look cartoonish.

Arcade racer or Sim
If I had to pick one of these I would now say sim. Its not the most hard-core sim out, but its a long way from the arcade world of Ridge Racer and GRiD. Switch off or lower the driving aids and you get a very solid simulation of what is going on between the road and the tyres. Care needs to be taken with load transfer (actually far more care that you need take in GT5:P), understeer and oversteer are very well modelled. In addition great care needs to be taken when braking, get a single tyre off the track when doing so and you will be fighting to keep the car straight. The AI is also quite impressive, again its been mentioned but I have to echo, it does seem to actually react to what you are doing, rather than following pre-set routines.

Colour and lighting
I said in my original review that the colours are a bit bright and bold, but the can be adjusted and toned down. If it will be enough to suit you I can't say, but I'm certainly happy with it, particularly when you race in the rain. One thing I would say is that while the colour palette is a bit vivid, the tracks still lack the 'clinical' look that I find an issue with GT's tracks, which for me is a bonus.

Hope that helps.

Scaff

Yes it helped. Thanks.

I'm going to try it out in the store and then decide.

€64 is just too expensive to buy it without even trying it out. I could turn in my GT4 copies and replace it by FC:TP.

I'm also going to wait for amar's review about the compatibility of the G25. Because I can't test it in the store with a wheel.

@kikie

Are you sure about this being a legal issue with game hire as I've never heard of it and nor had anyone else I asked.

Not saying you're wrong, just never heard of it!

After seeing this weekends Grand Prix of Silverstone in the wet I got jolly excited on taking the Ferrari 333SP out on Silverstone in the wet. ;) It's a shame I still have to wait until the weekend until I can :(

Anybody can post a lap in the wet on silverstone on youtube ;)

Just thought i'll tell you how pissed off i am.:sly:
Ordered saturday morning. Then a friend told me it was rubbish. So i cancelled. Turned out he was joking and it's actually good. So i re-ordered with Blahdvd and today(Monday) They tell me they have cancelled my order cause they cannt confirm my address. So now i've ordered with Gameplay. Cost me £5 more but atleast now i should actually get it.

Just hope its worth the effort:nervous:

Yes, it's a legal thing. In Belgian it is not permitted, since july 1th, anymore for game stores to rent new released games unless the developer/producer give there fiat. The game store clerck wasn't sure but it could become an international law. Older games are still available for rent until the end of this year. After that, all these rental games have to be sold second hand.

That's what I have been told. I just read on another forum that this is also the case in the Netherlands. Can someone from Holland confirm this?

sorry guys but I've seen so many people talking about Project Ferrari here in this Ferrari Challenge thread! I don't you if you guys know IGN but they got Project Ferrari in their PS3 games titles! All I've to say is that IGN never get's it wrong they are pretty much insiders in every gaming aspect...but... it's not in the 360 game list! I've got a PS3 so Uhhhfff

Is it just me or don't people have a "clutch sound" issue. When changing gears it sounds like it doesn't fully engage the clutch, it just sound completely wrong.

I had very high hopes for this game, but it just don't cut it for me, AT ALL :(

The F430 Challenge cars have a sequential box and upshifts are done without a throttle lift, and both upshifts and downshift are done in milliseconds (150 to be exact), its not going to sound like a standard car.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you that they have got the sound of the car 'wrong', its not perfect, but its damn close.

Also its that all? The game doesn't cut it for you because a clutch sound you think should be present is missing?

Scaff

whitedog2: about 5:10 in the movie you can hear the gear shift, i agree it's a bit longer in the game, but pretty close I think :)

Scaff: You don't have to tell me about the technical stuff, I kinda know all that, pretty much infact.
I'll try and explain a bit more in detail.

When you shift gear in FC, the sound doesn't fall with the dropping revs of the engine. It's like the clutch is "skiddin'" or something. THAT is NOT what I would call "spot on" or "damn close" or "pretty close", it's a pain to listen too and something that needs fixing :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ngH4p9KtfQ < that video pretty much shows what I'm talking about. Just listen at every gearshift.

I've been racing since Friday now and i am very pleased with the game. I've got most of the cars (fxx,f430 gt2, 360 GT etc) not many to go now:sly. anyone want my game save?

Can I ask is this based on purely youtube video clips or the actual game itself?

The clip you posted is to be fair not exactly a good representation on the game itself, and to re-iterate, based on the cars I have driven in-game the sound is good. I would use the term damn close for the F430 Challenge, F360 and F360 GT, which are the one I have experienced in game.

I also disagree that the sound does not drop on the clip you used (however it is difficult to hear clearly due to the quality of the clip itself), they do drop, but not much, neither do the revs, which would be expected if the car is being flat-shifted.

I also notice that you have not answered the question I asked....

Also its that all? The game doesn't cut it for you because a clutch sound you think should be present is missing?

...if sound is the single most important criteria to you then I have to ask what you think of the Gran Turismo series as a whole, as the sounds have been pretty much awful for every version of the game.

@Rocket Punch - The UK got the game last Friday (the 4th), but I think its not out in some parts of Europe until this Friday (11th).

And from that same link:

NOTE: This project has been officially announced, but not confirmed for any specific console -- it may or may not be released for this platform. Please check back for official info.

It's based on video only and what friends have told me (which DO drive the game atm.), but I might be wrong, but I know what I hear and a video don't have to be in brilliant quality, to get the fact about sound.

But don't get me wrong. I really do love the engine sound, it's pretty nice and almost spot-on. It's ONLY the "skiddin'" clutch on up-gearing that bothers me.

I also notice that you have not answered the question I asked....

Also its that all? The game doesn't cut it for you because a clutch sound you think should be present is missing?

Simulation is my most important criteria followed by sound and graphics. I find GT5p pretty nice and I'm sure it will be even greater when the full game arrives. I also play GT-R from SimBin, LFS, Forza1/2. All great games and all delivering what you would expect. All have their flaws:

GT5p - tireskid sound is awefull and always have been. Engine sounds is ok, but not "spot on".
LFS - crappy graphics and somewhat crappy sound (some is ok, but generally it sux) :)
Forza 1 - Best game evah :)
Forza 2 - Second best game evah :)
GT-R series - superior sound and graphics and good simulation.

Don't get me wrong. I've been playing these driving games since Gran Turismo 1, even before that - Grand Prix Legend - Microprose Formula 1 etc etc.
I also play in a Playseat with G25 with full digital surround sound etc. So I'm not just another fool with a controller in my hand, bitching about something minor.
