kj66246 asks: What can we expect with the much talked about downloadable content? Any specific details you can divulge on cars/tracks? I know lots of us (well certainly me!) would like to see the F1 car, a Monaco track and perhaps even a night race mode/option.
Mark Cale: We've had a lot of interest from gamers about our forthcoming downloadable content for Ferrari Challenge. In fact, even we're surprised at the amount of forum threads being created across the internet to talk about Ferrari Challenge and its DLC.
We're happy to announce the first batch of downloadable content today, which will consist of one track and five cars, also with the ability to download these individually. The first track available for download will be Nurburgring's GP Strecke. As one of the classic car enthusiasts tracks, and the official circuit raced by Ferrari Challenge, we had to make this available...and the course we'll be offering is the Formula 1 layout, a fast track with quick corners, and more than enough straights for some classy overtaking manoeuvres.
And as for downloadable cars, the first pack will include: Ferrari Enzo, 599 GTB Fiorano, 612 Sessanta, 430 Scuderia and the P4.
We're sure this will be more than enough to satsify even the biggest petrolheads, and provide more options when racing online as requested by the community.

I asked what will be the price of each pack. No reply yet ...

Yeah. Oh well, the 599 is in GT5 Prologue, I'll hope that the Enzo and the P4 will be in GT5 full.

With such a price (I guess it means at least 4,99 euros), System won't count on me to buy their DLC packs. It's not that I can't afford them (because I can, as most of PS3/G25/GT5P/F1:CE/GRID/FC buyers can) but I don't like abusive prices.

I read it, Mekanaizer, but you know how business goes. If you buy them individually, they'll be even more expensive.

like: 1.49 euros for each car, 1,99 for the track?

Cheaper?

Mekanaizer, I don't to which point will Polyphony Digital follow this trend, but if a year from now GT5 gets released with a number of cars on par with GT3 (About 200+ IIRC, I'm not even asking for about 700 like in GT4) and I can buy that game for 69,99 euros, at what cost do I buy each car when I'm also buying all the tracks, the game engine itself, in a physical Blu Ray Disc, inside a plastic package, with a paper instruction manual, distributed in a retail store after being produced abroad and therefore imported?

I didn't consider Ferrari Challenge (the game) to be cheap at 69,99 euros, but even that is much, much cheaper than a download of 1 track and 5 cars for a price of about 4,99 euros.

And of course no one makes nobody buy it. It's, however, my decision. I gladly spend the same 5 euros (or more) to give ice creams to my kids, I spend 5 euros each when I take them to the cinema, I spend 140 euros to fill the tank of my car when we all travel up North for the weekend. And we do it very often.

But I won't give 5 euros for something that, in its market, is clearly overpriced when we consider the price of full games.

End of rant

I didn't consider Ferrari Challenge (the game) to be cheap at 69,99 euros...

It`s also 70 Euro in Portugal?
It`s a rip-off price in Germany where console game cost between 55-65 Euro (60 Euro seems to be standard) but 70 Euro in Portugal sounds like daylight-robbery to me.

I ordered mine in Jersey so I payed ~50 Euro including shipping and for that price the game is barely okay:

- bad framerate even in SD and when you are alone on the track
- slightly strange handling that feels a little bit disconnected (similar to Forza 2)
- steering lock way too small?
- just 22-24 cars
- bad wheel support
- bad online code
- no Restart button
- no saving in Trophy mode
- non impressing cockpits
- difficulty is either way too easy or way too hard

And just because it has the official Ferrari license and it`s advertised by a relative of Ayrton Senna doesn`t turn it from a unfinished game into a superb full-price game.
And then they want to charge for DLC?

Some of my complaints will be fixed but at the moment I would rate it just around 75%.

I can see this argument rolling on for quite a while, everytime a pack is made available for any game on the PS3 or 360 and you have to pay for it the same old arguments crop up and the same old statements. If you think it's a ripoff then great don't buy it thats fine end of story. but just quantify the cost of a patch to any other activityand compare the amount of time and enjoyment you get from it. This patch equates if you like to half a bottle of wine or half a gallon of petrol (about 10 mins blast up the motorway for the audi)............bargain! As for the patch problems, it's a rairity these days for a game NOT to need patching at least there on the case and the patch is already with sony getting final aproval. some NEVER get patched COD4 servers I'm looking at you LOL
This game was delayed over 6 months, personaly I'm loving it (apart from online) and delaying it another 6-12 months to have ALL the downloadable content included in the game just isn't on I'll have my head stuck in GT5 by then.........think on about shouting out the wrongs of payment for DLC, theres a cost involved to provide it, and software companies are not charities they need a profit to pay for future development and there staf! if you disagree with it fine you have no need to buy it, the game will still work without it.
Rant over, carry on nothing to see here LOL

While I quite agree that if we think something is too expensive, then as a consumer we should simply not buy it.

However, what with this being a discussion forum and all, I do think its fine to discuss the reasons why we feel X or Y is overpriced.

I don't think that anyone here is silly enough to believe that DLC is made by magic pixies for free. However in regard to this content and how quickly its appearing, it would seem to have been made around the same time as the game (I do recall reading before the game was released that some of the DLC was ready), which does beg the question, wht was in not on the disc?

These are all valid opinions and topics for discussion, just as valid as youre own points of view.

So to one and all, as long as you keep in polite and within the AUP, feel free to talk about DLC content as much as you like.

Regards

Scaff

Yeah I'm not saying "here we go again" well yeah I am really, what usualy happens is this conversation will go round in circles for a page or 2, it's a pet hate of mine so sorry for the rant, it's not aimed at any person just the subject, it;s been discussed so many times it soon gets stale, It's also being discused in the DLC thread, maybe it should be moved there or that one moved here?

Sorry if it has been asked before but this topic is so big!!

Can anyone confirm that ferrari challenge supports the H-clutch??

Also, i read something about a possibility to alter the seat position in the cockpit view to be closer to the windscreen and have a more usable cockpit view for racing.
Is this true??

The clutch is not supported. There are rumours about they are working on it to make the game support it, but nothing concrete. (The patch neext week, is not going to support it, at least acording to the patch notes)

You can not adjust the view, but you can chose between a standard or dynamic camera.
The dynamic camera kinda follow the cars motion so when you brake you sort of move closer the windscreen and when accelerating you go a litle backwards.
I use the in car view with out any problems. The in car view may be a litle less than other camera, but i find it to be the best / most realistic, its just a manner of getting used to it i gues. I also use the in car view in GT5 P so going back to another view would feel ankward.
Also the bumper view in this game is set really low. Its a litle hard to see ahead the track when using it.

Yeah bumper view is very low but so is a ferrari bumper, the bonet camera is a nice height but the reflections on the bonet disorentate me in the bends, not the games fault just my eyes LOL

Any DLC will be always expensive.

However, it has to do with overall policy of microtransaction in gaming-industry, and it is unfortunately a trend we'll all have to adjust to. I'll just take COD4's map-pack as an example.

However, I agree that 4GBP is way too much for this content. Don't get me wrong, I know that 4GBP is the price of 2 coffees in London, but I agree that 3GBP would be more then fine. The difference in "just" 1 GBP will certanly make some people not to buy this DLC.

With yesterday's Mark Cale's interview on Eurogamer, we can safely predict there are more than 6 tracks ready to be published. With math above, it looks like we'll have to pay at least 25GBP in order to get the overall content. And that's waaaaaaaaaaay too much.

I have to bring in memory the justified rant of Forza2 community over DLC's for FM2 which resultd in serious price-slash of FM2 DLC. However, only way we can expect that System 3 make it's decision in making this price more reasonable is not rant - since the size of communities and it's impacts just can't be compared - is to boycott the buying of the fist DLC.

With games priced at hights of 60 euro, paying almost half of that just for DLC - that should be included in release anyway - is very, very bull.

I am thinking of returning the game to the retailshop since...
- I found out it has only 25 cars in it (25x F430 does not make 25 cars!)
- Looks like they cut the content to put it up for DLC
- Which is very expensive...

Not really wanting to support this because if it works for them, others are gonna do the same way...

yes i agree that the 25x F430 is a bad sale talk thing, but the 25 other cars provide loats of differerent driving styles.

'bout DLC:
the cars wil propably be 0,99 pound and 1,99 euro that's way to much for one car. but roughly the same price as NFS

I asked Mark about that yesterday, and he said there's loads more cars we haven't found yet:

====================================
Draexin asks: The back of the box says the game has 50 cars...how did you come up with that number? The 24 F430 Challenge cars and 22 unlockable cars add up to 46. Are we missing something here? Also, about the 25 "coming soon" cars on the website, are they hidden somewhere in FC or is it downloadable content? If downloadable, why only 25? That's nowhere near "every ferrari ever made".

Mark Cale: Regarding the downloadable content, we're not restricting how many cars we're going to release, and the aim is to eventually have every Ferrari ever made. It's a bold statement, but we'll endeavour to deliver on that. Moving foward, we will deliver five cars each downloadable pack, starting with Nurburgring in August. Now, in terms of how many cars are in the game, there may be cars that haven't been found yet, as in non-downloadable content. There's definitely 50 cars on the disk, but you'll just have to keep looking!

Its really a shame the way the handle the marketing of this game. The game is really good, and with a few twist it could have been made even better.

It is almost like they dont belive they have a good game them self, and then try to lie about what it contains, and dont answer questions or ducking around.

What they need to understand is this game it is for Sim racing fans, and they should try and market it for people who like sim games.

If any reprensative From System 3 or EUTECHNYX is still reading this thread, then try and forward these suggestions.

1. The game need to be made combatibel with the Logitech G25 clutch
2. We need to have the Full Nurburgring NordSchleife track 24,4 Km.
3. You should make a forum for the game or at least some way to contact developers. There isent even and e-mail adress on the box, or website.

Your website hasent been updated since June 11. That is simply not good enough. I think it has something to do with some people in your organisation is afraid if maybe people would bash the game in such a forum, and you may think it would not sell well. Maybe those people dont realise how good the game actually is. Like i sayd with a few updates here, and there this game could reach a cult status on the PS3.

You should stop marketing the game as it have 50 cars, when i reality it only has around 25. Your website says there are 16 tracks in the game. There is only 14 tracks in the game + The Fiorano test track, wich can hardly count as a track, given that you can only drive it in the tutorial. Is mark Cale going to come and again lie to us upfront and claim there are hidden tracks on the disk wich hasent been found yet ?

When you make and online interview as was made yesterday on Eurogamer, you should have a more competent person to answer the questions. Not a guy who is just outright lying, and or ducking questions. The game does not have 50 cars. We dont care if System 3 will make a new Ninja game or whatever, and instead of telling us how many times he crashed in his Ferrari in RL, he should answer the questions wich was made buy people who actually bought the game.

The game was not finished when it was released. Online part is a mess, no way to change dificulti, no way to change forcefeedback. Those are pretty standard things in any game today, and honestly those things should be ok when the game releases. I can live with that I still like the game a lot, but not every customer will accept this.

About the downloadebel content, well I know for sure I am not going to spend more money towards this game, until something are sorted out. I think customers who bought and unfinished game, really should be treated a litle better.

Most of us people who bought the game rose it to the skyes, because when all comes to all the Game is good. But there are some people in your organisation who should sit down and take a long talk about, how they want the game to go on from here. Because if the road you are on now, is the way you are going to conteniue to treat the customer base, then I am going to say thanks but no thanks.

And it should have the original F355 camera view like on dreamcast and the arcades.
For those who don't know, this camera view is closer to the windscreen, more realistic then the current cockpit view, more immersive and usable!

Look!!

Best view ever in my opinion!

All I can say about heritage-point above is that there was some info in one point that seating position will be adjustable in the final game. However, it just didn't happen.

finally I played this game today. As a no-aids driver I find this game very successful. It's really a proper racing sim game.Of course it could have been better but I hope it will be fixed with patches. Nice job system3 👍

by the way as a graphic designer I have to tell this that booklet desing is faulty and terrible.

I fully agree about the cockpit view in F355, it was "perfect" in my opinion. However I also thought the positional indicator at the top centre of the screen was a really clever idea. I personally wish it was included in Ferrari Challenge (and most other driving games actually) as it eliminates the blind spots - which would be very helpful, particularly in online races.

I'm really enjoying F.C, despite the few niggles I haven't put another game in my PS3 since buying it :)

Now for a better comparison of the incar camera views...

Ferrari Challenge:Trofeo Pirelli

F355 Challenge

This is just a picture but it's even more noticeable when your playing.
It could be even better if it supported 16/9 widescreen.
