I understand. Grid has one of the best damage models all around, but it wasn't perfect. There could be much better damage that could take more processing power. Honestly, think about a crash being completely realistic. All of the little movements of different parts of the car. I can only imagine how much processing power you'd need to perfectly recreate a realistic crash, but one that could happen at any time and quickly. I'm not sure that makes very much sense.
I think that would be a bit of overkill. Furthermore, as I've said before, you need to improve the car models themselves to achieve this sort of level of damage. That means remodelling every single car from scratch. Given PD's rate of work, I'd say that we'll get this sort of damage, probably after (just taking a guess) five iterations, by which time consoles theoretically will have more than enough processing power to handle this.

The PS3 is relatively old tech now and most of the tricks have been found in extracting performance, if we really want a all premium field of 16+ cars and all the extra bells and whistles as well as silky smooth 60fps gameplay with crashes and weather then I don't think the PS3 has enough grunt to consistently manage it. Maybe if sony had put in a decent quantity of RAM then sure but I think realistic for the gains the fans keep asking for then its going to be a PS4 title.

PD/Sony may also want to avoid claims of GT5.5 if it releases on the PS3 and most of its content in terms of cars and tracks were already on GT5.

I'd perhaps count with a spec III and 1 or 2 more ultimate editions (with dlcs), but not with a GT5.5, unless you mean spec III with it.

I wonder why people want gt6 on ps3?
Why not on ps4? Is it because they fear of waiting to long for a release?

Because I already own a PS3 and it's not like a PS3 game would mean no PS4 game. It will happen no matter what so why not anothe PS3 game first. So why would you NOT want a PS3 game? Don't give me all that cliché underpowered reason.

Id love a ps3 game if it would give us something totally new. To pay for a full game it needs to be alot better and not something that is doable with GT5 through a patch or add-on/dlc. Since GT5 is getting more support i think that games potential isn't finished and its still selling good.

Clichéd or not until Sony figure out a way to send an extra stick of 512mb RAM down on a internet update it will be very very difficult to find room for any more features or effects and until they can include a bigger graphics card on each disc the graphics will remain about the same.

So you will end up with GT5 plus some cars and tracks.

Or you could put in extra memory yourself. It may void the warrenty, though.

Proof?

Once again, proof?

This is being said time and time again, GT5 can just be patched but the fact of the matter is it hasn't been, not in the areas that matter. GT6 could be a great game on the PS3 without any extra horsepower.

The RAM is a large issue, I'm not going to deny that. The shadows are likely to remain a bit blocky and the cars will remain at 16/12 but to me that's fine. The biggest problems with GT5 have nothing to do with the RAM. I had more fun and there was more to do on Gran Turismo 4 and the PS2 had 32Mb of RAM.

What GT6 needs above all else is content. More things to do, more events, more special events, more use of the licenses etc etc. The stuff GT4 and previous games had. You don't need better hardware for that, you just need better planning and time management.

I'm not saying this is going to happen because it's not for obvious reasons but theoretically this is what GT6 COULD contain, hypothetically speaking in terms of PS3 technology:

-1000 Premium cars
- 30+ unique tracks, all 'premium' and all with weather/time
- 200+ A-Spec events totaling 500+ individual races
- 50 special events covering all of the licenses and vehicles in GT5
- A livery editor
- Much more in depth car customistation, all cars can be made into race
- More mechanical car damage
- A-Spec and B-Spec mode integrated together, ability to race together
- More real world racing rules, qualifying before a race, multi class racing etc
- Better car sounds
- Improved AI
-

That's just off the top of my head, there is lots more.

I'll reiterate again, I'm not suggesting GT6 is going to contain all of that, it's not. I'm just highlighting that there is so much they COULD do the with the PS3. Even everything in that last to half the scale would be great.

This is a possibly very ignorant question, so please don't laugh at me because i admit i know very little about how RAM and CPU's etc work, but i am curious to know, considering that RAM shortage seems to be commonly agreed shortcoming of PS3:

What would the possibility/limitations be of a kind of flash RAM add-on similar to the way some Saturn games had a RAM cartridge?

I imagine that USB transfer would be too slow to actually assist with on-the-fly rendering but perhaps there are less immediate things like plotting the course of off-screen cars that such an add-oncould assist with?

Also i imagine that something like could be prohibitively expensive.

Again, i'm asking out of genuine curiosity and would appreciate helpful response to what may be a risibly stupid question.

I'm also thinking about ways that Vita could possibly be used in a fashion to "lift some weight", as an optional recourse - for instance one thing i've seen suggested as a crossplay feature is using the Vita as a rearview mirror, which in theory could be rendered on the vita's own hardware. There may even be some other ways in which the Vita could add truly innovative features in terms of interfacing with photomode, tuning and a hopeful livery editior (obv. in a way that wouldnt make GT6 broken sans Vita but that could be really nice to have). I know i'm assuming a lot of things such as that GT6 will be onPS3 and that there even will be any possiblility of a Vitaversion/ crossplay support but indulgence in speculation is nocrime (is it?).

Dont think its possible. Thats why we need ps4 soon. Hopefully though PS4 will have an option to upgrade memory or CPU like todays TV's from Samsung have. Can be used for better internetusage, streaming, multimonitorsupport, higher resolutions and so on. Games can use it for better AI, more opponents and so on. It would be nice to have a standard platform that will last for a long time even if software demands more power.

Now......we know GT6 is already in development but in the past, how long has the build up been for a new console? i.e. from announcing it to being in the shops?

I'd like to bump this thread as the other general speculation thread was closed and it's just interesting to see the contrasting opinions on what people think would be best for the next Gran Turismo release.

For me, I have no problem bearing the "shortcomings of GT5", I guess I don't sit they wishing and praying what GT5 could/would be... I just wish that keep trying for online bug fixes and maybe improve the online physics.

I just don't know what could be better for Sony than releasing the best selling racing game ALONG with the launch of PS4. I know most people don't see that as a possibility whatsoever, based on PD's crappy track record in therms of being quick with their development.

Myself, I'm confident this could be accomplished, especially if some of Sony's top programmers work hard alongside PD to get the game built up quick. With all the future-proofed content PD already has, it's not out of the world to assume it could be there for PS4 on day one.

Anyway, Spring 2013 should be filled with a lot of next gen rumors and/or facts, maybe even a hint of what the future of the Gran Turismo series is up to.

I think GT6 will follow the pattern set by GT2 & GT4, let me explain.

The original game came out on PS1, GT2 soon followed with more content. GT3 came out on the PS3, & GT4 followed soon afterward, again with more content. This is because, once PD had developed the title for the new platform/console/technology, they were then free to concentrate on elaborating the game itself.

Likewise, it's only logical to pressume that GT6 will follow the same pattern. Now that PD have developed GT to run on PS3, they are free to enlarge upon it with even more content for GT6. Hopefully, they'll listen to the many complaints on this forum too, & the many issues affecting GT5 won't be carried over into GT6.

You do realise how many times that pattern has been mentioned, right?

It may be a logical pattern but you have to remember that GT1 and GT3 didn't take so long/come out so late into the console cycle. Well GT1 sort of did but that was different, it was the first game. GT5 came out nearly five years into the PS3s life.

As much as I personally want another PS3 game I'd say the likelyhood is getting very, very low, lower by the day. PD are as quiet as ever and GT6 hasn't been announced. The next major game show is E3 and everyone in the business expects the next generation consoles will be announced then. It would make no sense to reveal a new console and then announce your biggest exclusive franchise has a new game coming out on the old console.

Just noticed some news elsewhere that Nintendo/ Microsoft/ Possible Sony are dropping prices next year (nintendo done it this year already) .........Ready for next gen releases maybe in 2013????

They're going to be revealed next year, I think that's for certain. The only question mark is whether they come out in the 2013 holiday period or like the WiiU and PS3 they come out 18 months after they're announced, holiday 2014. Personally I think it'll be the latter but if anyone will get theirs out early, on previous record, it'll probably be MS.

Well personally I won't be buying any new consoles at launch, I never have done. I bought a 360 in 2007 and a PS3 in 2010.
