Sony needs a boost after coming in 3rd place with the PS3. I think GT6 will release on PS4 as a release date game (or even come packed in with the PS4). Here are some reasons why I think GT6 will be a PS4 release:

1. In many GT5 reveiws, people complain about the 2D backdrops in some tracks, the graphical quality of standard cars, and bad AI. Better Tech of the PS4 means GT6 will be able to have better graphics and better AI.

(If GT6 comes out on PS3, PD may not be able to improve graphics and AI by much, due to GT5 allready using most of the PS3's power.)

2. A GT6 release on PS4 will help sell PS4's. The reason that the PS3 was so expensive when it lauched was due to the gaming industrys switch to HD graphics, which was why Sony included blu-ray and cell technology (2 very but expensive techs at the time the PS3 launched.

6 years later, blu-ray tech has dropped in price and Sony is rumored to go with a more traditional dual core or quad core CPU for the PS4 (due to developers having a hard time with the cell chip). Because of this, I see the PS4 costing no more than $400 at launch.

Even though this is much cheaper than the PS3 launch price. Sony will still need a AAA game to help motivate people to migrate over to the new PS4 platform. GT6 would be the perfect game.

(if GT5 launched on PS3, this may distract people from moving over to the PS4.)

3. GT6 would be the best way to show off new tech. Racing games are one of the few genres of games that really show you what a system can do. A game like GT6 would show people the new power of the PS4.

Sony can't afford to be the last one out. It's all but confirmed that the Xbox 720 will launch in 2013. My timeline for sony is:

-Holiday 2012: The last good PS3 games start coming out. (the last of us, new god of war, ect.)

-Fed 2013: Rumors and leaks of PS4 start to spill out.

-March 2013: Sony holds offical event to announce PS4 and show tech demos and prototype hardware design

-May 2013: Developers start to show tech demos for PS4 games

-June 2013: Sony shows the PS4, in final hardware form. Shows games in development and potential lauch games.

-Sep 2013: Sony announces offical price of PS4

Dec 2013: PS4 launches worldwide for $400.

Dec 2013: Special Racing edition PS4 comes with GT6 and Fast & Furious 6 Blu Ray for $500

Solid timetable, I think it will play out like that too.

Except Nov. 2013 worldwide launch and a Gran Turismo Bundle w/o Fast and Furious.... those two just don't go hand in hand, Kaz would not be pleased.

I think if GT6 was gonna be on PS3, we would have seen it announced already. I just can't see Sony saying "Oh, by the way, Gran Turismo 6 is coming in 2013". And really, I don't see the major first-party PS3 support going past 2013. I imagine GT6 will be announced alongside the PS4 at next year's E3.

The way I see it, we don't have a PS4. That is undeniable. Now, I'm not sure if we have any official information that Sony is working on one, but I don't think so what with the PS3 Super Slim coming out. What we do know is that Polyphony Digital is working on Gran Turismo 6. So, how could PD be developing a game for a console that does not exist? Unless the entire world is one big conspiracy, and Sony has 400,000 working PS4s they gave to PD to test GT6 on...

Currently, even if they're not 100% sure if the development tools they've been supplied with (which are probably very close to final version) are the exact ones they'll be working with, they can still keep busy by modeling and roughly working on the other aspects of the game contents. There is not going to be a revolution in video game development in the year.... they know what they basically have to work with.

There are already games announced up to mid 2013, granted they don't have too long left to announce GT6 but there is still enough time at the moment for a mid 2013 release as well.

If PS4 is released holiday 2013 I reallly can't see a PS4 GT launching at the same time, it'll be another year at least.

Why launch there biggest seller on the smallest install base? Very strange tactics there.

Sony must be mad not to release a GT on PS3.

PS4 can have wonder book.

GT3 launched on a tiny PS2 install base and went on to become the highest selling in the series by a mile; in contrast, GT5 launched on an install base of around 45m and will likely remain the lowest selling main edition.

This logic that small install base = smaller sales/large install base = larger sales is not backed up at all.

In fact, with GT, it is the total opposite. Both GT2 and GT4 launched on larger install bases, yet they both failed to outsell their predecessors.

Exactly, because most of the sales don't come from die hard racing game enthusiasts, but a rather broad range of people who just want to add a racing game to their game collection. So all those millions of sales to the casual crowd won't repeat itself, cause they already have a Gran Turismo game.... that's why I don't think GT6 would sell THAT well again on the same system.

Yeah, but you said it yourself. They're already announced. Sony won't be subtle with the release of a major franchise like Gran Turismo. I imagine we would have seen it at this year's E3 if they were launching it on PS3.

Oh, and I didn't mean to imply that GT6 will be a launch PS4 title, only that it would be revealed alongside the PS4. It is, after all, Polyphony. :sly:

People are suggesting GT6 could launch either on day one of the PS4 or very close to it though. We've never seen that before so Sony would have no idea how sales would go for that, mainly because they don't know how PS4 sales themselves are going to go. That's why I think it'll either be a) a PS3 release next summer or b) a PS4 release a year or so after launch.

I think you have a point in general but remember Kaz has very recently gone on record to say he won't announce a release date too early this time. There is a good chance that has come from Sony, basically don't announce anything until you're super sure and we've seen evidence it's ready to go.

But yes I agree with you in general, if it's not announced at either Gamescom or TGS it's very unlikely to be on PS3. UNLESS PS4 isn't coming until mid to late 2014, then there is still time.

Why not both? Why not GT6P this February, GT6 this coming July, and then GT7P (or GTHD2) a couple years after PS4 launches?

Because that is a ridiculous release schedule. Why would you release a prologue only a few months before the full game? But yes I agree that if we do get a PS3 game next summer a PS4 game of some sort won't be that far away, 3 years at the most.

OK, so say if they are already working on GT6 we might end up with GT6P by November, but not earlier. Unless they are going for GTHD2 on PS3, in that case we might get that in October.

And yet no news about TT-II.

But the chance of trailers being released alongside PS4 launch are very high (much to our memory of GT5 at launch of PS3), but this time around the game CAN'T release later than half a year into the console life.... that could mean Spring/Summer 2014, if PD can't achieve that in the 2 years they've got 'til then... then I will personally go there and wave my fist in front of PD's headquarter building, I may even walk in and let the receptionist know about my utter sense of disappointment. Maybe Kaz will come down a give me a hug..... then have Translator-san give me a powerful kick out the door.

Trailers alongside release of PS4 could happen for sure.

Still makes no sense. There is no need for something like GT HD again. If there is another GT game on PS3 is has to be the full GT6 because otherwise why would anyone buy it when we already have the full GT5?

To show us what GT6 might end up looking like. If they have GTHD2 with Porsche and Gumpert it will turn a lot of heads.

If GT6 is a PS3 game, we already have a pretty good indicator of how it will look like:

Roll a lot of eyes, I think.

Stop with the glamorous trailers and smoke and mirrors.

Imagine this. In October Polyphony D comes out with GTHD2. It only has one car, which for sake of example is the Lexus LFA. Only one track. But this LFA has 650,000+ polygons whilst it is driving around the equally high-high-def Daytona Road.
That would be an ideal GTHD2.

At which point people would be annoyed that PD spent time putting together a one car/track demo from things they can already see by booting up GT5.

Why would people be interested in something that offers nothing over what they already have? You don't seem to understand what the original GT:HD originally was. It was designed to be the launching point for a game that didn't pan out. It wasn't put together purely as a technical showcase.

I think Gran Turismo 6 will release on ps3 100% they just need to take there time and complete the game. Take a look at uncharted 3 that game turned out Amazing the best graphics ever
