Ongoing PSN outages

I hope they can come up with a solution that won't just temporarily fix the problem ya know. I'm more concerned with them resolving the issue than just "patching" it and dealing with interrupted service in the near future. I think we can all agree on this! :).

I say minority, because there are 1,000s of members on GTP

Who said anything about the members on GTP? I am talking about consumers in general. Try Google and see how many people and coverage sites are "assuming" it is due to attacks, specifically from Anonymous.

Do you honestly think Sony would mention attacks on their blog if there wasn't already some evidence for it.

Again, common sense dictates....

So, Sony has no clue what brought down the servers, they launched an investigation to determine the cause.... and you think it is ignorant for a "minority," which is a majority at this point, to assume global service was brought down by attacks, from most likely Anonymous.

Brilliant.

Since the majority of news related companies are suspecting the work of Anonymous, and all signs do point to them, I will have to believe them over your "important maintenance" theory.

I think the point was that people are making very large assumptions based on very little information. The fact that any percieved majority is doing it doesn't make it correct. It was once believed by a vast majority of the population that the earth was flat/ orbited by the sun/ center of the universe, based on limited facts, and limited world view, and look how that turned out.
That said, I think the current hacker theory is not without merit, but still far from being fact.

No one said it was true because a majority believed it or stated it as fact.

This is a good point. This is probably another Anon attack. But it may be something as simple as a hardware failure (which would explain why no one has taken credit for it yet).

How come a minority of people here are automatically coming to the conclusion that the shock PSN downtime is due to anonymous. We do not know why or how the PSN servers were brought down. For all we know it could be important maintainance

The conversations went from the PSN being down to Sony is the evil empire to Anon-O-Dork is a BA, etc.

I simply stated that we truly don't know all the details of this and if it was caused by a third party, I think they are tools for doing so.

If Anon is behind it, then they obviously achieved their goal of waking up the Sony gaming community,

Alot of people probaly viewed it to find out what was going on with the hacking thing and are totally innocent. Sony are being a bit stupid with this whole affair.

They probably can cross reference those ips with those of known ps3s. These can then be analysed to see who updated past the update that removed other OS.
Thats just speculation, and i am not a web expert or anything, that just seems a plausible reasoning...

There is plenty of other things to do in the real world like reading a book!:)

Or go on other websites? Going on Youtube won't hurt anybody...

...to be honest now, I have no idea why the PSN is down now. I first thought maintenance, but we won't know without further information. It says maintenance, but no one knows for sure what it really is.

So stop saying it's the hackers, stop saying it is maintenance because you don't know do you? Of course some of you don't really care about what caused this, you just want your baby PSN back.

Take it like a man, just live with it, it isn't the complete embodiment of life guys.

This post isn't intended against Sony, I'm just telling you guys to live with some simple downtime (which will apparently be 2 days now) that may harm your GT5 experience (and a lot of it at that :P)

Perhaps I missinterpreted your post, but that's pretty much what it seemed you where arguing. If not, my apologies.

Sony also alsked Youtube to reveal the I.P. adresses of ALL that had viewed GEOHOT youtube posts on jailbraking the PS3.

So what they want with MY IP adress for?

Not strictly right, as the actual court order makes clear.

http://stadium.weblogsinc.com/engadget/files/Sony v Hotz - 90.pdf

First Sony never go to see a single persons IP address from any source, the information disclosed by both third parties and from Geohotz HDs were ordered to be 'attorney eyes only'. So Sony don't have you IP and never did in this regard.

What the information was for was to try and tie GH to SCEA (which he claimed he didn't know existed), that would have allowed the trial to take place in California, which would have most likely favoured Sony's case.

Read the court order which spells all this out clearly, rather than jumping to conclusions.

You don't trust Sony or Anonymous?

Look at it this way, either Anonymous attacked Sony because of said reasons...

Or Sony brought down their own servers and released information causing consumers to assume it was due to direct attacks on PSN servers, and they are simply looking for a scape goat.

I trust Sony as much as I trust Anonymous. At least I know Anon has no reason to target me, I am sure I am one of the many IP's Sony got from their subpoena.

When it comes to outages like this, I do not see why they say WHY the PSN is down. It keeps their customers happy that their fixing issues with the PSN.:)

Uggg. PSN just let me log on........Then kicked me out again before GT5 could finnish loading up.
But at least something happened I guess. Shows they're not just on a long coffee break.
I managed to get the new seasonal races last night, and made about 1.2 million before I lost my connection, but from the looks of it, I may have to try one of those book thingies instead today. Were does one get those? Is there a store or something that dispenses them?

Other than the fact that I just had to postpone my racing series for a week, kind of looking forward to a weekend off.

I read that it could be back up tonight by 8 PM E. Don't quote me on that though. Im off to read a book as well. I think you can get one from a vending machine?

Forced studying is so... Forced.

'Sony' did not get a single IP address from anything...

The Court Order
As ordered by this Court, on February 14, 2011, counsel for the parties met and conferred
to resolve their dispute as to the scope of the subpoenas to be served on the third party Internet
Service Providers (“ISPs”), including Bluehost, Twitter, Google, YouTube, Softlayer and
PayPal. As a result of this meet and confer, the parties narrowed the scope of several of the
subpoenas and agreed to provide for protection of confidential information obtained through
some of the subpoenas through an Attorneys Eyes Only designation
.

 So they're doing it to 'protect freedom' and yet they've probably ruined the evening for many innocent gamers? Seems a bit unfair really.

Oh well time to go play Xbox.

No online racing, but PSN's downtime has allowed me to take my car collection for a massive photo shoot.

Although I have absolutely nothing to do on GTA4... Oh, and its entertaining reading Twitter posts from people complaining.
