Ongoing PSN outages

It's an expression that pretty much says that you can cause more trouble than you intended with nothing but the best intentions. So, for example, in this case if Anonymous is attacking Sony to help the gamers, then it backfired because right now the gamers are the ones that are losing. They are hurting the exact group which they are claiming to be fighting for. Try to read between the lines a bit. I'm not bible thumping. My expression actually had nothing to do with religion, especially in this context.

I made no mention of "anon" and their antics in my post at all. I directly commented on the usefulness of being able to install full games to the HD. I then expanded on that reality by commenting "hackers," the implication here is of a technically skilled individual not employed by the manufacturer who makes changes/improvements to a device via their own means, do at times make things better. You quoted that comment with your confusing "best intentions" and "hell" garbly gook and now claim I misunderstood your critique because I failed to read between lines you never established. So yeah, fine, whatever.

You are clearly not appreciating the difference between breaking some obtuse "rule" of a contract you most likely had no idea you signed and that of "laws" based upon near universally agreed upon ethical behavior an individual living in a society. No small difference that.

Whether you know about a rule or not, it still exists and it is still enforceable. You can't go to court and plea ignorance on a traffic law (but officer, I didn't see the No Right on Red sign!) any more than you can breach a Terms of Service agreement. Whether the rules are fair or not is an entirely different debate.

I'm not taking sides with Sony or Anonymous because I think there are more important things in life than worrying about hacking a game system or suing the hacker who exposed the flaws. That is irrelevant because I haven't seen any proof that this is even what is happening. I just wanted to play PS3 for the first time this week this morning and it sucks that I can't get an Online match in.

Whatever is happening, I hope it's fixed by tomorrow afternoon because that might be my only chance to squeeze a match in for a week or longer. If this hacker business is true, then I think that's pretty sad. There are much more worthy battles to fight in today's society.

Ah, the perils of what the internet can create.

Hackers break the law, and they're punished for it. Why people seem to think this is unjust is beyond me, but then I'm not in it for the lulz like many such people are.

Ummm...... No I didn't? Read it again.

Anyone have a link for anons website? if they have a site that is.

I just tried Google and all i keep getting is the definition of the word and such.

Thanks!

But seriously, some good can come from the convo right?

Stop mixing "contractual agreements" and "rules" with "laws." Please. Not every line of every contract you sign, explicitly or implicitly, is actually enforceable according to the law just by the very fact that you "signed" it. Corporations love to through in a whole slew of limitations in their user agreements that they know full well would never be upheld if challenged in a court of law.

Take this case of Sony vs Geohot... from all we read Sony was cock sure of nailing him to the highest flag pole. And in the end of the day what did they do? They settled of of court. So for all their saber rattling about how wronged they were and how righteous their cause was, all backed by massive amounts of cash to support a prolonged law suit, in the end they didn't even have the balls to let the courts decide on the legality of the applicable contractual user agreements. Kinda strikes me as odd.

Would not want to set a bad precedent if things didn't go as planed?

@icelt - I love how you chose to respond to a different post of mine instead of admitting that you misunderstood me in the first place. Never mind, apology accepted. Honestly, I don't care about Sony vs Anonymous vs GeoHotz. (Assuming that is even what this is - which I doubt)

All I know know is that if you kick a tiger in the ass, you better as hell have a plan for the teeth. Sony is that tiger and when a 21-year-old whiz kid broke into their system, they retaliated. From what I've read (which isn't much, because as I mentioned earlier - I'm relatively indifferent to this whole thing and don't have an inkling of desire to hack any electronics I own), they got what they wanted without making too big of a legal mess.

Now I've had enough fun in this thread and I have used up my would-be PSN time on GTP so now it's time to get on with my weekend. I'll reiterate my desire to have this PSN issue resolved in the next 24 hours and hope for the best. Take it easy. :)

EDIT - From Anonymous:

Hey villain, when I tried to post that pic it wouldn't show....

I'm amazed at the sheer volume of venom being generated by this outage....imagine how many wars/revolutions it represents. Take this example (from the comments section of the anonymous website):

http://anonnews.org/?p=comments&c=press&i=848#comment-24772

It's 1 post, comprising 138 MS Word pages, 121 680 words most of which are profanities.....jesus.

Dang it, I was hoping that the network would be up when I got home from work so I could play gt5 before I left for the weekend. If the psn is still down on Sunday then @#$%^$#

If network is still down tomorrow them i'll make my own PSN, with blackjack and hookers.:)

It looks possible PSN will be back tomorrow, hopefully with new ToS where we get monitered 24/7 (Please Sony)!

Errm if you guys had a clue, you'd know that 24/7 isn't going to happen unless you plan on paying monthly subscriptions like LIVE. It's been known since PS3 release that servers would not be monitored continuosly because no money was put into it. The amount of unfounded rumours in here make me feel very smart.

lolwut?

Wonder what all that PS Plus money is doing? Hopefully this funded something better.

Hey. I can try and be optimistic.

Now in the scheme of worlds business models of today. That money prob paid for some executives bonus salaries. None of it was used to better the PSN.

I like to believe it indeed go towards betterment of the PSN. That was my reason for buying it. I just hoped if enough got on board they would indeed use that funding to better the PSN.

LOL mysterious r! you would have looked smarter if you had kept your mouth shut:lol:

Figuratively speaking of course, because i assume you didn't use your mouth to type with. i know you are smart but the last thing i want to do is confuse you since you are so smart :sly:

Off topic, but exciting, none the less, is this little scene to entertain us through our waiting time:

Very scary, I was working that corner before we dropped out. The plus side is that Mike just won his first Indy Car race last weekend at Long Beach.
