Ongoing PSN outages

They really could have used a less annoying voice encoder.:yuck:

 I swear I had that voice thingy on my Commodore Amiga workbench program.

I think Sony should let people use the PS3 to do whatever they want. This is how we learn new things about technology and it could lead to amazing things.

These hackers though, its like they're trying to be in the movies. Its probably a matter of time until we see "Hotz Vs Sony - The Movie" go straight to DVD.

Heyyyy, I started this thread. The mods have fiddled with it. 👎

Hahaha, anon.

These are people who have no understanding on how the world rolls, not to mention our legal systems.
Anon :"Sony must not pursue legal action against the collected IP adresses"

Sony should agree to that because that is already the state of it since the beginning. Sony clearly stated that. (and Scaff stated it twice too, that should be proof enough ;))

And calling Sony, the evil **** company is just more hillarious.
Did Sony pursue any of the PSP hackers??

Just don't try to gain internet geek fame and don't dizz Sony in a rap. They absolutly hate that.

Now Anon backed off attacking PSN because they realized that it was harming their cause because they were pissing off people (many of their followers even)

They maybe smart in hacking (and DDOS is nothing of beeing smart, sry) but lack ground understanding of social behavior, norms, and systems

You started one of the several threads on this topic in this forum and the GT forums, that I have then merged. If you're no longer the first poster then you were not the first person to make a thread on this topic - thanks for searching before posting 👎

Hostile

Correct. By simply checking the dates of posts you'd have already realised what went on, don't let a little sarcasm get you down, but it should have been very obvious they weren't trying to 'mess with your thread'.

I wouldn't really call DDOSing hacking. Besides they always launch these attacks on websites. This isn't anything new lol. But don't worry since this isn't ruining anyone's life directly they should get bored soon and stop.

^ Lol

Thank god for Xbox live. You get what you pay for, that's for sure. "Due to an error you've been signed out of the playstation network" ^&*^* you sony, fix your %^&!

To easy to pick apart. Don't forget that M$ had what 2 weeks of outages a few years ago and only gave people a 3$ game in return. PSN has its flaws and so does Xboxlive.

Sony probably has measures in place to prevent against lesser attacks. In this much larger scale case, it would seem Sony has contracted the protection to a specialist that is much better equipped to handle more serious attacks. I would guess that maintaining greater protection provided by in house employees all the time is something that Sony has determined to be cost prohibitive; thus, hiring a specialist when needed is seen as a better investment of money.

Well if actually takes additional hardware and/or software resources to protect against a "large scale" coordinated DDoS attack then that makes sense.

I'm reasonably sure that if there was a targeted attack on XBox Live like there has been for PSN, the ultimate outcome would be no different.

Yes, you were - you accused us of doing something worthy of a 👎 from you, while you actually did something worthy of a 👎 from us. The staff tidied up your 👎 without making a fuss, but you decided to make one anyway.

In other news, I'm getting similarly patchy connectivity today. Hopefully it's unconnected (lulz), but two of my accounts don't want to play ball at all - same error code.

^ It's working fine for me.

Whether Anon had any impact or not, the timing of this settlement is at least possibly curious. Most interesting to me, given all of Sony's rancor on the topic, they then come up with this doozy; "We appreciate Mr. Hotz's willingness to address the legal issues involved in this case and work with us to quickly bring this matter to an early resolution." Initially we thought that this Hotz guy was a right 🤬 for what he did and should be strung from the nearest elevated area. But after "talking" with the fellow for a few weeks we now realize he's not so bad after all... maybe just a little misguided.

GeoHotz settles with Sony
Bad news, soap opera fans - the GeoHotz versus Sony legal confrontation has come to a close, with the alleged hacker consenting to a "permanent injunction".

According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, a settlement between the two factions was reached on 31st March in a San Francisco federal court.

"Sony is glad to put this litigation behind us," commented Sony counsel Riley Russell.

"Our motivation for bringing this litigation was to protect our intellectual property and our consumers. We believe this settlement and the permanent injunction achieve this goal."

The exact details of the full settlement have not yet been revealed.

Hotz also expressed relief that the 'disagreement' surrounding his widely-publicised PlayStation 3 security breach earlier this year has been resolved quickly.

"It was never my intention to cause any users trouble or to make piracy easier," he said, "I'm happy to have the litigation behind me."

"We want our consumers to be able to enjoy our devices and products in a safe and fun environment and we want to protect the hard work of the talented engineers, artists, musicians and game designers who make PlayStation games and support the PlayStation Network," added Russell.

"We appreciate Mr. Hotz's willingness to address the legal issues involved in this case and work with us to quickly bring this matter to an early resolution."

Never had a login error on live, ever. And never was live down for 2 weeks. What you're talking about was Christmas time and it didn't even affect me, but I still got undertow free. Looks for anything sony gave me for free for their login error........

George "Geohot" Hotz – the man who hacked the PlayStation 3 – promised Sony he'll never fiddle about with the innards of a PlayStation 3 again. But now he's gone one step further, and vowed never to buy a Sony product ever again.

"As of 4/11/11, I am joining the SONY boycott," he wrote on his blog. "I will never purchase another SONY product.

"I encourage you to do the same. And if you bought something SONY recently, return it."

The settlement between Hotz and Sony was announced on Monday. Sony was "glad" and Hotz was "happy" to bring an end to the bitter legal scrap that began in January.

You'd have thought budding rapper Geohot would take take the settlement and keep a low profile – at least for a while. Not so.

"There is much more to come on this blog," he added.

As I said, maybe a tech savy person, but not intelligent in real life.
13 days after the settlement, he pokes again.

Yes, you read right.Settlement was the 31/3/2011. So Anon attacked Sony after Hotz was "free".
That takes the wind out of their sails!

Gotta admit, I completely skimmed past that little date detail. However it is also interesting to note that clearly Sony didn't seem too interested in making a public statement to the effect of the settlement as they waited 11 days to do so.

One could suggest that the anon attacks encouraged Sony to publicly admit they had already settled with Hotz, if for no other reason than to take some wind out of anon's PR sails.

Clearly that is speculation, but there is an explanation as to why Sony waited 11 days to make their announcement public. Interesting.

There is a difference between reaching a settlement and having it finalized. Could very well be the settlement was reached on the 31st but wasn't finalized until recently.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if part of the settlement was that Hotz would not buy any more Sony items and he is just trying to twist it to get revenge on Sony.

How far spread are these outages? I've been having them sporadically around philadelphia, but they don't seem to be global or even national, but I've been having a more problems the last 2 days it seems.

I posted about this in marketplace but was shut down, asked to move to this area. Why? Wouldn't a "broken" global communication system be relavant in the trading community? What am I missing?

All they'd need to know is that's it isn't working, any further information and discussion is more relevant here as it affects much more then just the trading community like you know, every other system running through PSN and there's no use having 2 separate discussions on GTP about it.

You can play GT5 without using the PSN. You can use the PSN without using GT5. PSN and GT5 are not the same thing, so any issues with PSN do not belong in the GT5 forum as they're not GT5 specific.

EDIT: You posted in the GT5 Q&A, not the marketplace, and this wasn't the thread you were directed to...

I am now getting the Error when trying to start GT5 and any time I even go to GTlife(which takes 30secs to load)

A Connection to the server could not be established(ID = 2:0). 9 times in a row starting the game and then exiting before I got to the inital screen. 10th time I get to the mode selection screen and I get the error there.

Anyone else having troubles/getting this as consistant? Didn't have this trouble earlier.
