After a race filled with highs and lows it's now time to prepare for Race 3.
For those new to the ORS series, Rounds 3 & 6 are sprint races. The way these work are simple. I hold 3x12 lap races back to back (5minute break in between each race) with reverse grid based on previous race results. Therefore i still hold the usual qualifying session at 8:30 for race 1, once race 1 is finished (with 5 min break over) we begin race 2 with reversed grid based on race 1 results. Race 3 will follow this with reverse grid again on race 2 results.
Now here is the tricky part. Tyre regulations. Now with normal endurance rounds you must use all tyres in the race, however with sprint races you are not required to run all compounds during the 3 races. There is 1 rule to remember though and that is the tyre limits. You are still restricted to 2x Racing Softs, 3x Racing Mediums and 4x Racing Hards. With 3 races to run on the one night you will need to be mindful of when to use up your compounds. To give you an example of how it would work see below;
Example;
Driver A - Race 1 Qualifies & Starts on RS. Now has 0x RS, 3x RM, 4x RH.
Driver A - Race 2 Starts on RM tyres. Now has 0x RS, 2x RM, 4x RH.
Driver A - Race 3 Starts on RM tyres. Now has 0x RS, 1x RM, 4xRH.
Driver B - Race 1 Qualifies & Starts on RM. Now has 2x RS, 1x RM, 4x RH.
Driver B - Race 2 Starts on RS tyres. Now has 1x RS, 1x RM, 4x RH.
Driver B - Race 3 Starts on RM tyres. Now has 1x RS, 0x RM, 4xRH.
IMPORTANT PART!!
Everyone will need to be mindful of compound limits the WHOLE 3 races as you only have 2x RS, 3x RM and 4x RH (Tier 1&2) total to use for all 3 races combined
If you get damage and need to pit after 3 laps on a set of tyres then that will count as 1 used set.
Example;
Driver A - Race 1 Qualifies & Starts on RS, Gets damage on lap 5 and puts on a set of RM. Now has 0x RS, 2x RM, 4x RH.
Driver A - Race 2 Starts on RM tyres. Now has 0x RS, 1x RM, 4x RH.
Driver A - Race 3 Starts on RM tyres. Now has 0x RS, 0x RM, 4xRH.
Now all of you by now should have noticed a slight change in the tyre regulations which are now effective during Endurance and Sprint rounds. Qualifying and race start will use up 2 tyre compounds. Therefore if you choose to qualify on RS tyres you will also start on RS tyres and have 0x RS, 3x RM and 4x RH to use in the race.
Also Tier 3 drivers now get an extra set of racing softs and racing medium tyres to use during the races to keep them closer to the pack.
Hope you guys enjoy the new regulations and opens up the strategy even more.
BTW - Awesome videos there guys.
