PENALTY SYSTEM IS STILL A PIECE OF ****!!!

I'm not a huge complainer about the penalty system as I believe with a bit of game Time we can all learn how it behaves after each update and adapt.
However, I really don't understand why they struggle so much to put in place a balanced system. If they are not sure about the rules that need to be implemented and the severity applied, why won't they use thei partnership with the FIA?
They could certainly help design a fairer system.

The game developpers particularly seem to struggle to define who's to blame in the case of a light contact where one car is pushed outside of the track... In case of doubt (steering or throttle input prior to contact unclear, racing position up to debate... Hard to code stuff) they should apply the same penalty/absence of penalty to both cars

I think the biggest issues are that other drivers can give a fair driver penalties and that there are people who go out of their way to simply cause havoc, they dont care to race. I dont know how you police that if Sony doesnt want to suspend privileges.

The penalty system caused more frustration that it was worth for me. Therefore, I gave up driving in those events and instead enjoy racing in the open lobby's.

The penalty system since the last update is absolute trash.
I just lost THIRTY SR in one race while doing race A in a A/S lobby.
All 3 times it was just close contact racing, first lap of the race, tight pack, of course you're bound to tap the bumper of the guy in front of you when you're in a lobby where all players have similar pace and are eager to win or gain position.
The race was absolutely clean, no dirty maneuvers from any driver, yet somehow this stupid game sees two cars touch in a corner and thinks this warrants a loss of 10SR points. And a guy ramming you gets the same SR loss?
At the end of the race, everyone had a red SR.
If the devs don't want people to race each other, they should make every race a rolling start with 500m between distance between each car, problem solved.

I just need +/- 10 more races for #322 and the trophy, and I'll be done with this stupid Sports mode.

Also while I'm here (dug my account just to post this rant), here's a video from a few weeks ago, Gr3 @ Bathurst. Full throttle down Conrod, I get tapped from behind and I get the penalty. Can someone explain this one to me?

The last one is my favourite. I think that really was a massive cut and I definitely deserved to be penalized for it. I think I'm done with Sport mode for good. I can't take this 🤬 anymore. They try really really hard to prevent us from racing in this game.

I think the bottom line is there's too much faith placed in people to race clean. The system simply cannot handle or assign blame correctly among all the absurdity, ghosts unghosting, cars resetting back onto the track and whatever else happening in that video which looked like an SR C/low SR B room judging by profiles I checked. It's equivalent to placing the system in Wreckfest.

Keep your head up. We've all been there.
Racing in the lower level lobbies can be fun, too. 👍

You'll probably rise quickly. Monday morning I was at A/S. Monday afternoon I was down to D/E.
Wednesday morning, I got up to B/S.

this , if you have a good enough quali time you can steam roll most races going up ranks and go back to where you belong

I've been trying to get to 99 SR and race at the same time since monday, this is the result. Currently at 38 SR and two DR resets. The only way is to just stay last the entire race and that is no fun. Well, no more attempts for me anyway. The wheel is already folded and back in the corner.

I will never qualify in this game again. If the player behind you can take you out whenever they like and might get away with it with no or absolutely inadequate punishment, then it's just not worth putting the time in.

I hope the penalty system will be fixed for GT7.

It won't. Unless the system considers control inputs, racing line, position on the track, position on the circuit, braking zones and a million other things, it simply cannot work. GT7 will be the same 🤬 all over again.

So this makes for the 2nd update I missed where the penalty system got adjusted. Since I got my new Ethernet cable I've been debating on setting up my wheel again to play GT Sport, but reading a few posts about the latest update, what exactly changes about the penalty system? Contact sensitivity? Lots of posts I've read seem to indicate even the slightest of contact, such as bump drafting or even trading a little bit of paint during a pass have been grounds for getting a penalty.

Do you think that the problems With the penalty system could be they are using Open wheel F1 rules for GT rules could they be that stupid . Everyone knows contact in open wheel racing most times will take both drivers out of a race . Where in GT racing you can see side by side racing more often and contact would not take both drivers out of the race. Simply put the cars are designed differently and so should the rules.

I’m currently watching the 24h 2019 Le Mans and it’s interesting to know when they flag someone for FIA violation that it’s real actual people not a computer software... could be this game’s problem ...either way I still can’t get with it

I think you are right. All the penalties works well in an environment of races following the rules in the videos. Never make contact, never make yourself look bad.
Unfortunately this doesn't apply to online racing
It does seem a like cultural clash with proper Japanese manners applied to a completely different culture. And culture always eats anything else that someone tries to bring into it.

Wall penalties are the best! This is from a race about 4 months ago. I never even touched another car.
20 seconds!!! :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Amateur. It's not fun until the timer starts increasing by itself for accumulating too many wall penalties  Reminds me of that time I 'qualified' by jamming the R2 button to see if the car would eventually make it around the track.

First it got stuck in the tunnel, then at the back wall

I think it was over 2 hours in penalties in the end. Qualifying time of 279:37.21

Good old penalties

1 sec for murdering another car, 40 sec for scraping walls

Ha ha. Tokyo is the unrivaled king of penalties.

Just had a shot on sport mode after a month away and of course I got a penalty on the first corner after being brushed by an out of control car. Quitted right away.

I'm sticking with F1 2020 and maybe never coming back to GTS... at least the Codies have done interesting gameplay both online and offline.

Seriously PD, you have all Sony's resources to make a great game but still has so little to offer compared to third parties. I'm hopeless for GT7, so I might get an PS5 only when TLoU 3 is released...

Here's a non penalty that blew me away. I completely sailed past my braking point at the Dunlop chicane. I never even came close to making the second turn. No penalty at all! I kind of wanted one, because I felt guilty towards the people who were behind me. :embarrassed:

Oh well, tomorrow we can gripe about 3 other tracks.

Okay, I know that bitching about the penalty system is a rather masturbatory exorcise, but . . . Daily Race C, qualified 9th, punted into the gravel in turn 3, now I'm in last place. Fast forward to end of lap 5 and I have worked back to 10th place and there are three cars in front that I know I can get by. Just before the start/finish some moron goes off track and the shoots bak across the track at a right angle right in front of me and I nick his rear bumper as he shoots in front of me. Result? I get hit with a 4 second penalty for hitting another car! How the system can't tell that I have touched a car that is moving perpendicular to the track is ridiculous.

Haha it was so clean this morning at Le Mans. I ended on a clean streak of 3. First race tonight, dropped straight to SR.B, compliments of our laggy South American neighbors. 300 kph plus lag does not mix, especially not with this penalty system that doles out -10 SR for any lag bumps.

Oh well, next race 2nd place finish with CRB and FL from 16th starting position. SR.B has cleaner races in the evenings compared to SR.S
