PENALTY SYSTEM IS STILL A PIECE OF ****!!!

This is a good place to start making us better drivers in online racing.
Aaaaand your own source tells you that you're wrong:
5. Passing on Straights
On straights, the lead car is allowed “one safe move”. It can choose a side, but cannot move back, and cannot move over in reaction to an overtaking car if late enough to invite contact. It must leave a car’s width (plus 6 inches) of racing room if the overtaking car has already committed in that direction and has achieved an overlap next to the leader. No weaving to break the draft or to block; that is more than one move. On straights, as opposed to corner entry, it is possible for the lead car to look into its mirrors and see the overtaking car, so if the overtaking car gets even a small overlap next to the lead car, the lead car must give the overtaking car room to race, and can no longer move across the track.
Troll confirmed.

This is why people complain about the new "no" (there's is, just hard to get) Penalty System. :ouch:

and

Just nonsense that all this is allowed and yes I shouldn't have pushed them back really but it was safer than trying to pass properly. The game gave me a clean race bonus too.

If you really want a penalty you can still get one, you've just got to hit them from behind hard enough that they go (what the game must deem as) too far off the track, like this.

:gtplanet::cheers:

It's nice the "ignoring track limits" penalty still works when you get pushed off the track :banghead:

I couldn't resist the 787B, so doing a couple races again each day. It's nice not to get reset for just racing but otherwise, same as always. I guess it's an improvement not to get a penalty for getting rammed. Plus brake checking a habitual bumper is all allowed as well. Just don't get pushed wide, since that counts as a short cut

Btw BS penalties still happen. Last night, going into the pits, the car in front of me steers in too early and clips the inside wall in the chicane. He ghosts, I go through his ghost, no other choice there nor could I stop to avoid. It seems alright, but when I come out of the pit, SR Down, 3 sec penalty.

And when you are part of a pile up, ie a car coming from behind plows through traffic, and you have the highest DR in the group, penalty is yours. Same as always. They do still trigger sometimes when a car is hit from behind and goes wide enough.

1 SR Down on Sarthe gives you a white S, negating all gains from 6 laps. 2 SR Downs in one race brought me to SR 89, into the chaos. There is a big difference now between SR 99 and those that 'took the effort' to get below SR 90. It was late as well though, could have been the time. As when I was back in 99 there were plenty terrible drivers as well.

However, unlike last time on the Nord, I did meet more clean skilled drivers this time than people that just want to run you off. Speed is a good steward as well, much more time to be lost by driving dirty in GR.1 compared to N300. Also much more separation in GR.1, not that much close driving. Plus the different pit stop strategies with ultra long pit stops keep people apart as well. I can put the controller down, walk to the kitchen, check my mail, have a sip of my coffee and come back for the wheels to get swapped

I really find the penalty change ironic. I was racing at 99 and then had a day were I went to 72 and did not feel like I did anything too bad. But, i was still motivated to keep a clean rep and get back to 99, and I did and am still there. Yesterday, I got a bit ticked off and took some revenge on two very aggressive and persistent drivers, and I got a clean race bonus on both races???? I want to take ownership here. I was being the kind of driver I don't like seeing. The new system did not cause that. But, what the new system did do is tell me that I can force off a really abusive driver if I want to, and if I do get a penalty my rating after the next race or two will be back to where it was.

So, I face very little justice for retaliating. I am not the only one. We see the same names in races and we can all tell who is clean and not, and I see other clean drivers like me having the same "I have had enough of you moments."

The incentive to not retaliate is almost gone, imo.. And, there are tons of ways to retaliate that won't cost you a penalty.

That is not a good thing.

I could be. Last time it was like this, around X-mas 2019, the dirty drivers calmed down a lot when they realised that if they where dirty they got a dose of their own medicine. It was some of the cleanest racing I have ever had in GTS.
It got to a point where it was time for payback no matter what happened. I saved that race. A few races later they were clean.

What's really tiring is getting "ignoring track limit" penalties for giving people room. I drive the 787B, slow in and out of corners, so I try to leave room for those hybrids to get by. I'll catch them on the traights with a nice speed boost. But not with those pesky penalties cropping up every time I go slightly wide not to get hit by a hybrid sprinting out the corner. I guess PD really wants me to play the blocking game :/

Hvn't done GT Sport for almost 4 months now becos of the previous penalty system, need some time off to detox and get rid of that rage.
Seems like now they turn it all the way back to vigilante mode again lol???

That’s a good document but your points about blocking were quite uninformed. You should’ve read up first before stating blocking is part of racing, instead you doubled down and rubbed people the wrong pay.

Sometimes or often saying “ I see your point” is better than doubling down I have found, unless you were trolling..

Didn't save the video, but in daily race B (spa), right off the start an F-Type and Ferrari ahead of me are going at it trying to push each other off, mostly the f-type pushing the Ferrari to the edge of the track, I'm maybe a second behind trying to keep out of it.

We get round to Pouhon and the F-type pushes the Ferrari off to the outside, I'm on the left side of the track as we're approaching Fagnes, the F-type realises I've gone past him so sweeps from the right to the left, sideswipes me, I bounce off the left barrier back on the track sliding sideways, just in time to hit the recovering Ferrari, I get a 3 second penalty, the F-type that started the whole thing and had been barging the Ferrari around for half a lap got nothing.

Appreciate its never going to be perfect, but bar trailing those two until they properly look each other off there was nothing I could do.

I'm not seeing the cleaner races in A/S yet. And as always A/S has no imagination, it's a HDI fap fest on Sarthe. I'm enjoying the 787B, but need new rear bumpers every race. Bump bump bumpi di bump.

I did have one person that slowed down to let me pass again after accidentally bumping me off, and a couple dozen that just hit 'n run. I'm not perfect either, sometimes I slightly miss my brake point when off the racing line. Kinda sucks when nothing really bad happens, you slow down to keep out of the way of the car you bumped, yet still get 3 sec penalty or an ignoring track limits penalty for trying to avoid. In a tight pack positions jostle around through corners and I guess the positions changing still triggers penalties after bumper to bumper contact.

What works is the long pit stops, keeps people separated. All the faps pit in lap 1, I still go last to 5th in lap 1  (I pit in lap 2, a DS4 shreds the mediums in the 787B, 5 laps is too many)

Yeah not that I've played much the last couple of days, but to start 5 laps was fairly easy, but as I got quicker 5 just isn't possible anymore. Just a shame everyone copies me and is using the 787B, I started off with it before it was even on the top 10 board.

Odd, I don't see many 787Bs on the NA server, a couple per race, 962C and C9 also get used. 90% is faps though. I had a couple great races with another guy driving a 787B, same skill level as me, fun close racing. B/S lobbies are more varied, each time I get sorted into the A+/S to A/S room it's a fap train.

Both me and @Norrin Radd are below that. In our lobbies there are about 40-50% 787B's, maybe a Sauber or a Porsche 962 , a Mazda VGT and the rest is hybrids. From time to time there's a 908 in.

It's not working, dirtiest sunday evening that I can remember and I'm in all the A+/S rooms. The game is engineered to encourage maximum contact. Try to leave room and you get a ignoring track limit penalty. Swiping people off is fine. I just got swiped off right before the braking zone, can't brake on the side, end up in the wall with a 1.5 sec wall penalty. Before that rammed into a reset at the final chicane. Before that run off in the chicanes on the straight to receive ignoring track limit penalties.

This game is shelved again after today. Broken beyond repair at this point. A+/S rooms feel like B/B rooms tonight. Bunch of clowns! My block list grew by over a dozen again this week

So weird, after the above I dropped out of the A+/S to A/S room and drove with the low A/S B/S crowd. Very clean, side by side through mulsanne and indianapolis with plenty room in between, contact free. Sure people still mess up, I got accidentally run off through indianapolis in one lap, the other driver got a 3 sec penalty, still pulled over in Arnage to let me pass again.

Another race side by side through Mulsanne with a 962C, he didn't quite leave enough room for me (I'm on the outside) nothing bad happened except the game gave me 0.5 sec ignoring track penalty, thus I got pulled back after arnage and out lovely battle was over. He apologized for that after the race!

I guess the higher the DR, the more desperate people are chasing DR. Looking for DR gains instead of clean racing. A+/S high A/S rooms were also 90% Hdi Fap, low A/S B/S much more variation. The last couple races last night were very enjoyable, racing with plenty other GR.C cars.

The game is still shelved, Autopolis GR.4, I rather have a root canal, and sprint races are always too desperate. DT Seaside with side swiping allowed, good luck!

I just got another clean race for ruining someone's (and my own since I waited for them) race, I accidently ran straight into the back of them and they went mostly off track and then spun and the game just does not care anymore, I could have finished 2nd if I was a total 🤬 and did not wait for them, which is the least I deserved. 👎

So you don't play or don't think it's broke? Either way strange that you bother to comment here.
I've been here since 2010. I can clearly comment on anything I want. You might want to look back at my previous posts to see how much I supported PD. What's strange is the same people doing the same thing over and over again. Same result, same broken system. Carry on.

Penalty system still trolls even with next to no contact penalties.

No idea why I got it and no reason came up. Could be for a yellow pass (it had gone though) or it could be for driving through the car that caused it all, that didn't want to drive and couldn't decide if it was ghosted or not, or it could be for "brake checking" the driver behind who ending up pushing me through the ghost, I've really got no idea.

Remember folks, ramming is mostly fine but this (whatever that is) is really bad.

You didn't acheive overlap... Sorry I need to let that go.

In all honesty it's most likely for the tap to your rear.

Looks like you hit #16 (German) one ms before he ghosted. What a mess. And yep, bumper to bumper contact where one loses position is what still triggers penalties.

Penalty system is trolling you for choosing the same car as everybody else despite your lines and inputs suggesting you're not a Formula 1 driver who will benefit from "the best car". Apparently the entire field thinks they could win at any moment eh. If they chose the car that has by far the best braking points for this race then why aren't they hitting those braking points?

Edit: It looks like you might have gotten that penalty because you were on the racing line but brake checked the person behind you for no reason. As for the red person not getting a "penalty", the game did ghost him and allow three cars to pass without worsening the accident. It was a bit dramatic but the game successfully solved the problem of him being in the way of literally everyone.

We must be watching different video clips.
It's obvious to me that he brakes for the unghosted car in the middle of the track. Then the car behind him has apparently not noticed what goes on and fail to slow down when an obstacle is in the way, pushed him into the car a millisecond before it ghosted.

Yeah you're right, I had to slow the video to 1/4 speed to see the movement.
