Perfect Balance's cars | Small update| 05/03/14

If you want to pay shipping, I have a spare 1JZGTE here which would go nicely in it :)

hehehe.

Coming along well!
If all I need to pay for is shipping, then let's make this happen. It will probably run me about the same as the swap I want to buy anyway.

Wow, way to tease a guy.

I hate nuts like that, and got so frustrated at one last year I ended up getting a 6 ft rod on the end of a breaker bar to get it loose. I was actually laying on the bar doing push ups trying to get the thing just to turn, it gave one good crack and basically came off with just my fingers. FUUUUUUUUU

I knew he was kidding, I was just going with it.

I was actually using a 3 foot pipe on the end of a 2 foot ratchet, and was standing on it. It gave one good crack as well, but as you can see it didn't end quite the same way.

Did some good ol' skid racin' in the 240 today at a semi local oval track, should have videos coming up hopefully sooner rather than later.

Thats awesome, and a great looking vid. We have nothing like that here, and our drag strip is 2 tore up pieces of pavement in a farmers field. 👎

Good luck for next time, hopefully you make it home in one piece again.

Thanks guys. We have this oval here but this was the first event they let us do there, but hopefully there will be more, since the next track is over an hour away.

GoPro is the regular HD Hero, not the 2.

What kind of suspension settings are you running? It looks a little too low and stiff to me, especially up front, which is why it wants to understeer. If you're not already, I think I'd try a stiffer rear bar and a little less agressive on the springs. Right now it looks like the car wants to transfer weight as normal, but because of the limited travel and stiffness, it can't take a set as it wants and the whole car ends up getting forced to the outside of the turn, ie understeer.

The tires probably aren't helping too much, either. Really grippy rubber is awesome on a full built 300+hp stripped and caged drift car but all the guys I've know who've been successful in KA'd DD 240s, especially S13s, did it on crappy economy tires, usually from the local used tire shop.

Yes, the car is too low and it's stiff, but the rear is also stiff, and the rear dampers are set stiffer than the front. The reason it understeers is because I have 205 tires up front with 215s in the rear, and the fronts started overheating towards the middle of the day and started getting all mushy. Not to mention I was jerking the steering wheel to try and upset the car, which just made the front plow. I know I can stiffen up the rear/soften the front, but I'm not looking to spend a lot of money making the car oversteer when I can simply change my driving.

Also the car does not have limited travel. It would hit the ground before the suspension bottoms out.

Springs are 10/8kg springs, dampers set to 10/12 clicks out of 30. Camber is 2 degrees in the front with 0 toe, and rear camber is -2.6 degrees with factory toe spec, dont remember what it is exactly. I have the adjustable arms to fix the rear alignment but I'm still missing traction rods to correct rear bumpsteer so I haven't installed them.

The tires were cheap Nexen n3000s running at 55psi. Grip was not an issue lol, it's just a bone stock KA isn't anything special in the first place, and on top of that, mine hasn't ran quite right since I bought the car 4 years ago. I just don't care anymore since I'm going to swap it out.

Nice vid PB, looks like you had a lot of fun. Nice having a track so local to you as well!

Good footage too. I've recently bought a GoPro myself and pretty chuffed with the results.

Oh yeah, the rear camber fix will help a lot. 10/8 is the same setup (TEIN HE) I had on my S14 and I was constantly struggling with understeer, even with a Nismo 2-way. I was running 225s since I did a lot of grip driving in the car too, and they made it even more trouble to keep the rears spinning.

Have you spray foamed your sills, by the way? Back in the day that was the thing to do with S13s, don't know if anybody's doing it anymore.

Fixing the rear camber will give the rear more grip, its not going to fix the understeer. I'm suprised you had understeer issues with an s14, they're not known for that like s13s are.

I was planning on running 225s myself, but hardly anyone makes a 225/40/17, so I stuck to 215s. If I ever do grip driving though, ill be running at least 265s. They have room for them.:D

Sooooo. Got my rear traction rods today to finish off my adjustable rear suspension. Hopefully putting everything on this weekend and dropping the rear 3/4 inch or so.

Also, should have more pictures and video coming.

Its just a bit of the pity the shutter speed makes it look like its parked, apart from the suspension travel lol. But cool nonetheless.

Thatman, the video is on the last page, but I should have a bit more coming.

And yes, I wish the shutter speed was set to show more movement, but oh well.

Here's the video for those that are looking for it. Jordan disabled the YouTube HD tags so it wasn't showing correctly.

Thanks for that. I went back and fixed them.

I guess he disabled them recently? A few people were able to see the video.

On a somewhat related note, I'm having trouble with my rear coilovers being seized up. Went to adjust them and couldn't move them. Have them off the car with penetrating oil, heat, a small hammer and a pipe wrench and was barely able to get one to turn slightly before getting stuck again.

Might have to cut the mounts off and get new lower mounts. This time I anti seize everything.

Part of it is probably not having a long enough lens either. When the car's that small in the frame, getting a good blurred background requires a REALLY slow SS, which means it's way harder to keep the car sharp, not to mention you might physically not be able to shoot that slow in sunlight without overexposing.

So after messing with my coilovers for about 4 hours yesterday, I managed to get one loose, cleaned up, anti-seized and back together, but the other side I couldn't budge. I ended up cutting up the lower mount and confirmed my fear. The aluminum threads had been completely mangled after catching on some dirt, and therefore completely froze the coilover I can I couldn't move it in any direction. New lower mount on the way.

Also, I mounted up some tires for my cousin for his RPF1s, and just for the lulz, lined the up against the side of the 323. Looks pretty cool actually.

Fortune Auto.

I should mention they offered to repair them free of charge, 2 years after my warranty expired on them. Outstanding customer service.

In fact, about a year after I purchased them, one started leaking from the seal around the piston rod, and because the car was my daily they simply had me take pictures of the leak and sent me a brand new shock. :D

Oh yeah, I forgot they used that green color. I was thinking they were just dirty TEIN green, haha.

That's pretty impressive customer service. I like that there are vendors in this business who are actually honest with this kind of stuff, and take care of their customers.
