Looking Great! You should really get a type x wing. Saw one on a 240 the other day and it looked amazing.
The Type X wing does look really good, but I'm still unsure of exactly what direction I plan to go visually with the car, so I'm going to worry about that later. For now it's an engine swap so I can drive the in the manner I wish to drive it.

Have mixed feelings about this app. I like that the actual programming is better which makes the colors and lighting better before adding any kind of effect, but it only does square photos, so I have to stand very far back from everything I shoot, and the edges of the frame gets distorted from the lens.

Not to drag this too far off-topic, but I know what you mean. I tend to shoot portrait using the normal iPhone camera and then drop them into instagram to mess around with. Shooting portrait means whatever I'm shooting is never too wide for the square...

Well that doesn't help too much since it forces me to crop the photo into a square before I edit it anyway. Also the actual programming is different between the two photo apps, and the colors are better on instagram even before any filters are added..

Well, I will use this opportunity to update this thread somewhat. We had another drift event this past Saturday, and I got a few videos I am going to compile into one bigger video and upload in the next few days sometime. Until then I've got one video of a bad run with a cool camera angle to hold everyone over.

As far as an update to what's been going on, I've recently decided to not go the RB20 route and simply stick to the easy SR route. I've always known it would be somewhat cheaper than the RB, but I wanted to hold out for something unique and something that sounds epic, but bang for the buck it's simply illogical to go that route, and I've been getting a stronger and stronger desire to actually have a nice, capable drift car. The ka just isn't cutting it anymore. I should also mention, parts are far more expensive for the rb. For example, a tubular exhaust manifold for an RB20 that doesn't come from ebay runs about $800, starting price. A tubular manifold for a SR is under $200 from a somewhat respectable company. These numbers just add up, and every thing you might want to do to an RB is more expensive than an SR.

Not to mention I checked out a guy's car local to here who is doing an RB with the swap kit and stuff I wanted, and turns out the mounts and things are kind of trash and don't work very well, which I also wasn't expecting. All in all it seems like way more work than I am willing to do for the same end result of having a bit more power. With the SR you just install it, change a few sensors and wire up one plug iirc, or if you buy a conversion harness you do no wiring, and it's done. After the 323 I think I simply had enough of owning something that is difficult to find parts for and maintain.

On an related note, the Mazda 323 is sold and gone, and replaced with what I thought at the time was a more reliable and in better shape 1996 VW Jetta with the 2.slow engine. The car's paint is rough, but it doesn't have rust and the interior is in MUCH better shape than the 323 was. Since I've had it though, I've been chasing a pretty bad hesitation when warm problem with the car, which makes it extremely annoying to drive. So far no real updates other than that.

Also I bought some PBM tie rod spacers for $10, so I'll slap those on sometime for a few more degrees of steering angle.

So, forgot to update this thread with the full video from my last event. Will do so now.

In other news, the 240 remains in the same state. Nothing really to do at this point other than my engine swap, which I'm slowly saving for. It's not going well.

The Jetta I picked up has sort of been falling apart, which I guess was to be expected, being a VW and all, but I'm still attempting to try and fix it as much as possible without spending any real money on it, since I never planned to keep the car for long in the first place. I feel as though it's a losing battle and I might have to suck it up, spend my savings and get something else to drive. I can afford a car payment, but then I won't be able to afford anything else, so I'm trying to avoid that if possible. I have a co-worker who's sister traded in an older Mitsubishi Galant for a new car recently, and she apparently took good care of it. The car appears in fantastic shape for the mileage and age, although the paint needs buffing, it doesn't appear to have any body damage at all, and other than the trim on the passenger airbag kind of peeling from being in the sun for nearly 20 years, it seems promising. If I can get into that car for roughly the same amount I can sell this Jetta for, I'm going to hop on that deal.

What I REALLY want is an early 90's Lexus LS400, and they can be picked up cheap, but in the back of my mind I know it's a bad idea at the moment, where I need something to drive, and I'm already thinking about the next project....

Meh.

Anyway, here is my video.

Nice runs, the third in particular. Also has me wishing I had a nearby racetrack to rock up to. Not that I have a car at the moment, but still...

Find it funny to hear how much problem people have with VWs out there. They certainly aren't perfect over here, nowadays at least, thanks to all the complicated technology, but back in the 90s and earlier they were generally pretty solid. It's the whole reason they have a reputation for reliability over here, even though the modern ones aren't all that great.

And I feel you on the LS400 thing. Have considered them on a couple of occasions - not difficult to find a half-decent one for £500 over here - but always reprimand myself for being an idiot, wanting a 20mpg, complicated luxury sedan when we pay $8/gallon for gas...

I think it might be because a lot of ours are made in the Mexican factory, so they might not be as good or something, I really don't know. I do know that they generally fall apart in the US. The old ones not as much, but I seem to have gotten a bad one.

The LS400 wouldn't be so bad, considering our gas prices are half of what yours are. That's not what I'm worried about. What I'm worried about is the few thousand dollars it's going to cost me to fix it every time something goes wrong. It's not a cheap car to repair.

Don't do it! I specifically turn away LS400's as I don't want to work on them. You can't even remove the starter without dropping the transmission. I basically rebuild the starter in the car. Starter is under the intake manifold, just so you know. This is one on a long list of "not so fun to fix" for LS400's.

I at one point found a great deal on one, only to remember how much I loathe doing the starter job. I've done 4 or 5, never again...

Well I mean, as much of a pain it is to work on, that part is free. The parts however, are not, which is what I think my complaint would be.

True labor is free. It's just one of those cars that's odd because you'd never imagine to order intake gaskets to do the starter. Amongst other oddities. Guess every car has it's quirks. Just more to the parts bill...

Yay cool picture of my car.

Your RPF1s are still super awesome. We never got to try them on though, I wanted to see what my car would look like.

Nice car! I'm hoping to pick up a s13/240sx when I can drive. Is this the same track where the drift union guys go? Not evergreen, but up in Canada.

I wanted to see it too but we ran out of time. They're only 5mm higher offset than yours so at least you know they'll fit the same with spacers.

Thanks, and no, I'm on the other side of America, east coast, so not the same track. Wish the tracks here were as laid back as the ones over there though.

Well it was less about the fitment and more about how it would look. I wanted to see my car with RPF1s, and yours with my gold 5 MBs.

On a side note, for those that don't know, the Jetta seemed like it was going to be a never ending battle with that car to make it run good/keep it running. I wanted to get out of that car before it died on my and wasn't worth anything anymore, so I was browsing craigslist every day looking for a good deal for a daily beater car. A 1997 Geo Prizm popped up without any real information about the car and I hopped on it, went and looked at the car and bought it the next day.

So, while I don't have any real pics yet, it's a black 1997 Geo Prizm LSI (basically a Corolla but more ugly) with 160,000 miles, and fortunately, as I happened to learn later as I found out more about the car, it seems I got my hands on a top of the line, fully optioned out one. The bigger 1.8 engine, the 4 speed tranmission with overdrive (instead of 3 speed), cruise control, banging A/C (Keef can attest to this), factory CD player, power everything, aluminum wheels, ect. The paint is bad and the tires make noise, but mechanically it's sound and runs great. So now the Jetta is up for sale, although less people are interested in that car than I had interested in my 1988 323 listed for the same price.

First thing I really did on the Geo is sand down and clearcoat the headlights, which I've got pictures of. You can see the condition of the paint here, but meh, I don't care as long as it runs good.

And after:

The light didn't really get brighter that much, but they definitely became much whiter and crisp. Also, yesterday I washed the car by hand and waxed it. The clearcoat is still missing, but overall the car is so much more shiny. From a distance it really looks a lot better.

My old Escort didn't look much better, and as long as it gets you around, that's all that matters. 👍

EDIT: Also, on a related note, I recently did some suspension adjustment and my steering wheel was a little off center. I noticed after the drift event, the steering wheel was more off center than it had been before. I didn't hit anything, so I think the steering rack might have moved a bit during the event, in one of the many time I hit the steering locks. I figured after 240,000 miles, now would be as good of a time as any to replace the steering rack bushings. So I put in an order for some Energy Suspension bushings just now. I guess I'll also use that time to install my tie rod spacers for a little more steering angle...

Does that sticker say "Dem boys is skid racin'"?

That is the coolest thing I've ever seen. Want, no wait, need one of those.

It does indeed say them boys is skid racin'.

I saw that phrase a few years back in a picture someone had online, but it was a tiny sticker. I had to have one, so I had one made. :)

What's the status on your cars anyway? Last I remember your s14 had a tweaking chassis and was destroying driveshafts.
