Permanent damage!

How casual of a gamer can one be that a simple oil change every now and then is too much to handle? Maybe it would be better for those people to stick with the arcade mode altogether. Or leave the game into the shop and play something less complicated... like darts?

I just think he likes complaining.

Anything for post count...

This looks like a good step in the right direction. Glad to see it.

*Me hours into the game, theoretically*
"Dang, I wrecked my miata up pretty good in that last race. Can't quite afford to repair it right now...
I guess I'll use the MR2 for awhile until I save up enough. Better practice that track more so I don't wreck again..."

In other words: Strategy!

Victory is OURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In all seriousness, we know it's a game, but we each have our definition of the GT series and nothing is exact. I think the physics in GTA V are annoyingly less realistic than GTA IV. I would consider them both to be games. Forza Horzion, game! FM, a great simulator but more of a game than the GT Series. Why? Because Top Gear football, rewind feature, annoyingly overly-done sounds that aren't dynamic.

GT, finally collaborates with a tire and suspension company, but when has it ever had a gamey feature like "rewind" and the lack of weather/wet surfaces, lack of time change/partially :D true 24 hr endurance races (hey, at least there's weather and change of time), lack of karting/dirt/snow racing, lack of the revealing of cars before anywhere else (since the '00s OMG!).
Just to name a few.

Guinness World records ;)

You seem to mistake me for someone that cares about post count.

If oil-changes had anything to do with real life, and weren't a gimmick inserted into the game to increase the amount of micro-managing our garage needs, I'd agree with you.

Wait, so you're saying you never need to change the oil in your car in real life?

I think you're mistaken.

I didn't realize you buy a car fresh out of the dealership, only to immediately change its oil to net a 5% increase in horsepower (which usually takes it to the actual rating its supposed to have right out of said dealership).

Yep, guess I have been doing it wrong!

In real life the dealership usually change the oil before giving you the car (or at least at request)... I guess they don't do this in GT

That's sort of my point; we shouldn't have to do it, and it's a time-sink to have to with each car (and do it every few hundred miles). It's a nice nod to real life, but it's so twisted that it's more of a pain than a good feature, IMO. Same goes with the mileage break-in; cool in theory, but means a whole bunch of time needs to be invested to get a car's HP to peak (especially without B-Spec being in the game now), and plays utter havoc with OLR series and regulations. How many times have you entered a room, done a few laps, and realized your car is now over the PP/horsepower limit thanks to the mileage?

I like the idea. Should improve the competition as none of us want to wreck our rides, right?? :P

On another note, are the credits capped at 20mil?

Assumptions. How do we know racing online will permanently affect damage? It might only apply for career mode.

I carefully worded it to say "if" not "it will be", so no speculation there at all. The part about the cost of damage not discouraging contact...one only needs to run online in partial or full damage rooms to know this will be true.

I wish it was an option to where we can fix are cars while we are in a room online. That would be great if they add that.

hey there might be, or added in a update like how spec 2.0 brought us the option to buy parts for the cars while your in a lobby or race menu.

I thought we were done with calling the GT series a simulator

(unless anyone thinks that sitting in a couch with a controller playing a game for teenagers is the same as driving)
Its time for you to step YOUR game up and get a wheel. Once you go wheel you don't go back. ;) I get on when I can and I'm not a teenager. Jay Leno isn't a teenager. The Top Gear guy's whom have talked about GT on their show aren't teenagers. The Fifth Gear guys did a review actually and they aren't teenagers so your point is?💡

I don't know what this game or not game has to do with anything but let me just post these excerpts from gran-turismo.com

Think that should be an end to that. It's a game.

Good for you. Not really relevant to the point @Magic Ayrton made that there will "probably be an update to remove the features that annoy people the most".

I don't mind the idea of oil changes, what I hate is that we have to manually navigate to a menu to watch a tedious animation each time it needs to be done. There should be a choice to do it automatically, just as with this damage idea. I play games to have fun, not to spend hours in menus maintaining it.

It is if you want your car to be at peak performance, and who doesn't?

I haven't a clue what you just said there, to be honest.

Samus, I think "game" is a generic term for anything on a console as GT still refers to it as a simulator. Considering it's using real world physics and data you would have to allow it to be classified as such

I actually think what you say about oil changes makes lots of sense and agree with your sentiments there needs to be a better way to apply this.

I vote for trivial and automatic. Not that it matters what I think, PD have made their choice. But I know which one is a better design choice for people who aren't masochists.

I will say like that we're likely to be paying money to fix our damaged cars, that's a definite positive step towards encouraging cleaner driving. I just don't see the point in taking time to click "fix my car now" when it's a no-brainer. Put a value on it, take it out of race winnings. Job done. If you're really brutal on your car you'll make no money, but you'll never come away from a race with less money than you started and wishing you just hadn't played at all.

Yeah, I'd take convenient punishment, but it can be a fine line.

Actually pitting during a race and waiting precious seconds in a "come on, come on, come on, come on.... hurry uuuup!!" moment is vastly different to watching a repair animation for the ten thousandth time.

When there's a sense of reward for averting the cause of the punishment, it is more likely to feel worthwhile, and can foster a feeling of achievement. Also, if I damage my car, I want to be thinking "damn, that's gonna cost me", or "damn, can I keep running". Not "damn, that'll be yet another minute of my life I'll never get back".

Staying on track = reward
Saving on repair costs = reward
Not having to load an animation sequence (or whatever it will be) = no sense of reward

So if damage is permanent than what really needs to be done is the removal of the 20M cr limit. If you want limit it make it viable, 100M, 200M so if there are hefty repair bills you are not constantly having to spend to keep under the limit and have funds for new cars and repairs.

I suffered for near 12mths keeping enough CR (14mil to be safe) for a 2J so if it came up in UCD so I could afford it when it came back around as 1st time I only had a mil or 2 and missed out so when it came around again 12mths or so later there was a ridiculous balancing act constantly going on to keep at that.

I've had one (g27) and a rig (custom) for the longest time. The thing is more than 99% of players don't play like that and certainly the game isn't aimed at wheel users looking for simulation.

There are tons of more reasons to believe the GT series isn't about simulating real racing, but in the end as I said it sums up in one word: nitro. Or in one sentence, third person view (that BTW happens to be the default).

Somebody has to pay game for us who want cheap way to run simulator, why not put those teenagers parents pay, so we can enjoy proper ffb on incar view with our wheels. :)

If the renault 5 turbo sounded even remotely like this then it could be considered an even better simulation!
