Aww the great memories of SegaGT 2002. Is its spirit in GT6 too? It really taught you how to take care of your cars. :)

Yes, that was awesome.

Well, there's car lovers and there's people that only care about racing.

I love taking care of each aspect in the car life of Gran Turismo. It helps making the relationship with each car, special.

What is the problem with oil changing? It was already there in GT4.
He's Segway person. Oil's filthy.

I see.

What is it?
A small condominium on the South End?
A steak dinner?
A slap in the face with a wet fish?

It's a game.

It's sold as a game, it's on a gaming console, you play it with a game controller. It looks like a game, sounds like a game, and when you ask it if it'd like to come back to your place for a nightcap and some casual sex it slaps you like a game.

So explain where you're coming from when you say it's not a game. Is it just a very good disguise?
Don't get mad at me because you didn't explain yourself well the first time.
"I think GT isn't a game in the sense that HALO/Killzone are games. Other racing GAMES like PC sims are further from being games than GT is, but thus far, GT just isn't a game like NFS, GRID or especially Burnout are."

I would've thought that was enough. I had the same discussion with Scaff, I believe. It went on for only about 10 posts/replies and we still couldn't meet halfway or it simply ended like it was nothing. I got mad at YOU, because I woke up 16 hours ago and someone told me an hour ago to have a good day. :D

Well, seriously, I'm annoyed about the constant nitpicking. Like Griffith500 said, "benefit of the doubt." Instead of going off on a tangent/tirade/small, yet offensive rebuttal, it would have been Nicer if you asked why I thought what i thought. Why do people have opinions? Why was mine so outrageous for you to get all sassy? :D

I tend to agree with you, Gran Turismo is not a game but a simulator, or more precisely a cross between the two in taking the best part of each. So that also mean they must avoid the most annoying things in real automobile life to keep essential fun of our passion. And we don't have all the same point of view about appreciating automobile so it will always be difficult for PD to take a decision about these kind of feature.

I don't know what this game or not game has to do with anything but let me just post these excerpts from gran-turismo.com

More than 120 cars have been added to the lineup, pushing the number of available cars to over 1200 cars. There is a large selection of cars now included in the game

An environmental simulation based on the longitude/latitude position of the track is performed for real life tracks. For example, the Le Mans 24 hour race in the game

Starting from the My Home screen where the game begins

This is the main scenario mode of this game

progress in the game can be matched to your skill

These Events are unlocked as you progress through the game

Think that should be an end to that. It's a game.

i enjoyed changing my oil.*

Good for you. Not really relevant to the point @Magic Ayrton made that there will "probably be an update to remove the features that annoy people the most".

I don't mind the idea of oil changes, what I hate is that we have to manually navigate to a menu to watch a tedious animation each time it needs to be done. There should be a choice to do it automatically, just as with this damage idea. I play games to have fun, not to spend hours in menus maintaining it.

Oil change isn't actually necessary in GT5, though.

It is if you want your car to be at peak performance, and who doesn't?

In what changing oil in GT5 was important compared to the feature we're talking about ?

I haven't a clue what you just said there, to be honest.

It's just a thought I had, and thought it would make sense to avoid players having to pay amount of money to fix certain cars depending on certain prices. :P
Yeah, I know. But if that's really the case, 500 credits in the world of Gran Turismo isn't enough to keep people racing clean. Which would pretty much make repairs obsolete. I'm crossing my fingers for a more unforgiving system, at least as far as GT Mode goes.

I can not be more clear sorry but Griffith talked for me.

GT is officially a game but like I said, it's not really the case in reality.

I thought you followed everything Kaz and PD said to a tee? They say it's a game, retailers call it a game, reviewers call it a game, in "reality" it is a game.

Seems now I might actually have a reason to fear the walls on hot laps (besides ruining my lap). I am glad feature has made it.

i was looking through the new stuff on the GT website and i think i see.... OMG permanent damage on the cars! well, by permanent i mean, crash yer car and the damage wont be magically repaired when the race is over.

I hope that is the case, it would make us drive more carefully & add to a cleaner racing experience when we venture online. If it is like you say, I for one welcome it. 👍

It's not as binary as you think. It's technically a game because it's made technically in the same way a classic videogame is but in terms of spirit and philosophy, it's more than a classic game like I explained in my previous post. And this is interesting to be aware about this kind of nuance because it can help to know wich directions the studio must follow in order to evolving the licence.

So add some "spirit" and "philosophy" and it's no longer a game? Way to be precise and clear as to what makes a game.

It's a game, full stop. There is no "technically" about it.

To be honest it gives as much incentive to do that as it does to ram people off the road.

People already rammed when you didn't have to pay. If they're enjoying that I don't see how giving them the ability to rob you of credits help.

There needs to be an option to disable this online. There are plenty who need no incentive to drive absolutely clean, even in open lobbies.

I welcome such a feature, but still skeptical about the damage model. If it's the same oh no I've crashed at 100KM/H and the bumber is now scratched than it's pointless.

Right. If full damage in a GT race where if you are damaged your race is pretty much over, isn't enough to keep people from being reckless, then $500 in credits won't either. In fact, it'll probably make the bad drivers even more malicious, given they can now permanently damage your car as well.

I've already explained the (very) basic differences between what is a game and what is not in my message adressed to another_jakole. If you had not got the point again, think about classic arcade games and typicall german automobile professions simulators.
I have no longer the time to explain more and I don't have the feeling that you make enough efforts to understand the thinking of your mates anyway so that's all for me.

All you said is "I tend to agree with you, Gran Turismo is not a game but a simulator".

You do realise a simulator is still a game in this context, right? The simulator at F1 teams isn't a game because it's use purely for learning/development progress. Gran Turismo isn't. It's marketed as a game, played as a game for entertainment, called a game by it's creators. Anyway you're clearly not going to take any note of what you're being told as usual so I'm done.

👍
Leave Samus alone. He's not going to let it go. He's one of the people who takes it TOOOO literally in order to make others look like they're talking nonsense. Not everybody will agree with him or us. I like your style though haha. You articulated it very nicely.

WOOOW Sorry but this is clearly not what all I said. If you want understand the thinking of a person, please read the wholeness of his statement, and you will realize that your second paragraph was useless. I begin to understand why people think you're "Mr. negative" here.

I thought we were done with calling the GT series a simulator

(unless anyone thinks that sitting in a couch with a controller playing a game for teenagers is the same as driving)

Price is too cheap though. Make it 10x more expensive, and more for carbon fiber race cars, and that will clean up the driving a lot!

And allow a car to be totalled if it goes over a damage threshold...

over rev the engine, blow it out, engine rebuild as well....
short shift = extra miles before rebuild

Do you play Real Racing 3? The payouts are low, cars are expensive, damage repair and upgrades are expensive. RR3 is a nightmare. Be careful of what you ask for, you might just get it.

Assumptions. How do we know racing online will permanently affect damage? It might only apply for career mode.

Calling GT a game, which is it, is being negative now? Wow, I really am done here.

Not negative in terms of criticism (for me), everybody have his proper point of view, but negative in terms of social relationship in a written debate. It seems that you have really a problem in the ability to understand the others like I have just shown two minutes ago my friend.

Victory is OURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In all seriousness, we know it's a game, but we each have our definition of the GT series and nothing is exact. I think the physics in GTA V are annoyingly less realistic than GTA IV. I would consider them both to be games. Forza Horzion, game! FM, a great simulator but more of a game than the GT Series. Why? Because Top Gear football, rewind feature, annoyingly overly-done sounds that aren't dynamic.

GT, finally collaborates with a tire and suspension company, but when has it ever had a gamey feature like "rewind" and the lack of weather/wet surfaces, lack of time change/partially :D true 24 hr endurance races (hey, at least there's weather and change of time), lack of karting/dirt/snow racing, lack of the revealing of cars before anywhere else (since the '00s OMG!).
Just to name a few.

Guinness World records ;)

How casual of a gamer can one be that a simple oil change every now and then is too much to handle? Maybe it would be better for those people to stick with the arcade mode altogether. Or leave the game into the shop and play something less complicated... like darts?
