Do you really care about little details? You're wrong about the graphics thing. Games nowadays are based on if online play is available. And if so, how good is it? Considering XBOX-heads, XBOX Live is perhaps the best online system available on consoles. Perhaps even the most popular. I'm not going to further debate on online play, I'll save that for some other time.

As far as graphics go, they are good, but not great. I'm not ranting GT4, but graphics are secondary to gameplay. Photo Mode is just a brillant showcase of what the PS2 can do because some of the pictures look like renders from expensive computers with 3D Studio Max on them. In the past, a Silicon Graphics unit would show off impressive 3D images. Some, even, make it into other types of media. Remember "Toy Story" and the "Reboot" cartoon series (America only, unless this cartoon was available elsewhere)? And as far as racing games go, we've graphically went from Pole Position, to Hard Drivin', to Ridge Racer Classic, and all the way to Gran Turismo. Each GT after that improved on graphics quite a lot. But just because a game looks good doesn't mean it's a good game to begin with. That's like saying you love your girlfriend/boyfriend because she/he looks good. So, can that crap about graphical details. I don't want to hear or read any excuses as to why Gran Turismo 4 is going to be the worst showcase of three-dimensional talent. And if the rims look subpar, boo-hoo. Cry all the way to PGR2. And if something doesn't reflect very well even if it's right next to something, then I'm sorry. And damn it to hell, if you don't like this Photo Mode you're seeing, get the hell away from GT and learn to appreciate what gameplay is like in the GT series, then come back to GT. And if you're a little behind afterwards, you're on your own to catch up. So how long are we going to hear constant complaints and b*tchings about the graphics (and I'm talking about the NEGATIVE talk about the graphics)? I'd rather play a game with graphics as old as Pong and enjoy wonderful gameplay rather than play a game as vivid as Project Gotham Racing 2 with the AI of Pole Position. Get off it and grow up. Gran Turismo 4 will be the greatest example of graphics, gameplay, and entertainment. If you can't appreciate that, why the hell are you associated with Gran Turismo in the first place?

I'd have 3D spectators any day over 3D rims......at leats I can see the people when I drive.....I don't think that the 2D wheels looks overly bad in motion anyway.....as I said, at high speed real 3D rims blur into 2D disk shapes anyway......

I think It'd be cool if photomode incorperated some other modes as well.
Museum mode....you could navagate to whatever car you wanted, take shots from any distance angle ect while using all the photo filters mensioned at E3. Also I hope prize cars (depending on make and model) will not only be awarded in the garage but also museum....Basically a glorified garage as well.

Pak: I'm pretty sure that's a CG render, but with some luck the real pit crew may yet look quite similar. That pic got posted quite a while ago, someone like live4speed could clarify, but thanks for posting it 👍

It looks good enough to be a CG render but then again Gran Turismo 4 will look very good. The image has come from an article with some of the e3 2003 era and later press release images, note this one with the Ford GT and the lack of anti-aliasing. I personally feel pit crews of that and/or due to limitations lesser detail will be included in the final game but honestly nobody owns. It is open to interpretation.

I've heard this somewhere before. Maybe PSM, but in PhotoMode, aren't the shots more realistic b/c the pixels don't run as fast or there are more of them, or something like that?

To get super realistic CG pit crews it doesnt have to be strictly in game.......as you roll into the pits its switches to a cut scene where you have no control.......this way all the graphical power has been transfered to the 'mini video' That way you would get detail and quality similar to the opening video in prologue!

I don't think it's CG, but I could always be wrong.
Look at the polycount, the characters are probably using 4000 poly's and they use less when they're farther away from you (look at the helmet of the pitmember standing righthand in the back). There's no reason to create a CG movie that lowpoly and the environment looks ingame too. The road uses the ingame texture etc.

Yeah but if PD want it to look as realistic as possible I think that the only option would be to have a cut scene movie......they would have to do one for every car in the car......because of filler cap sides, wheels etc.....as mentioned...... I would rather have a cut scene whist the car in being jacked up, tires changed and stuff rather than it look rubbish with in game graphics.......

Just look at the GT40 pics below......that is how it should look

Those pit crew shots are over a year old. They were first posted at a Playstation forum website on the topic of GT4. Actually, it was video, but Sony got rid of it, but not before a couple or screenshots were taken out.

Yes but since then we have seen more pit crew moddeling and adjustment...at least when the pics I showed were taken PD was tryingto do a pit crew.....I just hope they it is of the same quality.....I don't really want it in game...just a cut screen

Do you remember these old images of Tokyo Motor Show '03 pamphlet?

Definitively concept renders but could be part of the game.

It's all CG, even the ingames graphics are CG by definition, that pit crew scene was part of an FMV movie last year, the scene with the GT40 is FMV from a movie I still have. If you saw the movie at a good resolution you'd tell quite easily that it's not ingame but in thoes pics it doesn't look much different to the photomode graphics.

Ah ok. :)

GT40 screenshot is easy to tell it's not ingame, but because of the low-poly count and low-res ground texture on the screenshot I posted I thought it was ingame. Ah well, maybe it'll still look like that. :dunce:

Btw I was saying CG cause others were saying CG. :P I should've said pre-rendered instead of CG.

I really do want something like what Zero has shown.......The more CG cut scenes the better.......remeber Prologue when you win a car...that kind of stuff is amazing!!......I don't think PD would do all these for nothing.......

Hey Zer0, do you mind attaching those images, so I can enlarge them? I want to get a better look at those. Are those game shots, cause those look like them, but then like real shots.

Right, if the game doesn't have real-time pit crews and has these people below in some sort of FMV... Then it as to blend seamlessly when crossing the pit lane entry. So when you're racing you bring up the pit menu by pressing the select button, select your tires etc. when the cpu takes control of the car it has to switch over to the pit sequence without any loading screen, if it does then... :grumpy:

Thats the scene from after you've got gold in a school mode test in GT4:P, as for the pit crew, they will not cut to an FMV of each car for the pit, that eats memory and to do a decent FMV takes weeks, thats for each one, times that by the number of cars, then work out how much disk space there is and you'll find they need a couple of DVD's for the FMV alone, then the rest of the game on top of that.
