PS+ required for online and MULTIPLAYER? Sony is joking, right?

It isn't required for ALL online multiplayer, but it will be for most of it, I assume. On the plus side (pun not intended) PS+ is easily one of the best values in gaming and you'll more than make up the initial cost in free games over the year, especially if you own a PS3 and Vita too.

Let's take a look at the January PS+ update for North America...

Bioshock Infinite lists as $39.99 at GameStop
Devil May Cry - $29.99 at GameStop

With those two games alone you've already saved more money than PS+ has cost you, and you get new games every month.

But, since I'm European, I don't need the prices of the games in North America.

From the EU PS Blog, PS+ members will be getting the following games in January.

PlayStation 4:

Don't Starve

PlayStation 3:

Devil May Cry
Borderlands 2

PlayStation Vita:

Soul Sacrifice
Blazblue Continuum Shift Extend

I don't know the prices of those games where you live but it seems like a pretty damn good update to me. Plus you get 11 more months of free games too, so if these don't do anything for you next months games might.

Dude, it's easy enough to check local prices.

As a new PS+ member (from the EU) I can confirm peobryant's comment. I have Grid 2, Borderlands 2, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Dragon's Dogma 2, Contrast and Resogun - and that's not mentioning all of them...those combined are worth far more than the annual suscription and I'm not even two months into the first year yet.

F2P games won't require PS+ membership though.

Something interesting I just noticed in light of this PS Plus talk. On the back of the COD Ghosts packaging, under the "Network Players" tile, it doesn't state that it requires a Plus membership. Could this mean that not every game will impose a forced Plus membership?

I can't remember too well but I think that, at the E3 conference, it was stated that whether or not a game required PS+ would be up to the developers.

Sony have stated that not every game will require a PS+ membership, it will be up to the developers. Most games now require a membership though and I'm assuming it will stay that way for the life of the console.

Ever since becoming a PS+ member I haved enjoyed countless games I would have otherwise looked over. I always wanted to play Saint's Row 3 and it wad free when I joined so I had an awesome time chucking people into traffic and laughing at the carzy stuff they put into that game. that alone was worth the price of admission for Ps+, not only that, Borderland 2 is sick, so is Grid, I also have Resogun for the Ps4 along with Contrast. The list goes on and on. Way worth it.

I thought that's just a testversion limited to 1h?

I guess I need to check it again... I hope you're right.

Maybe i am a sony fanboy, but i just love my PS4 + Resogun beyond words can describe.

It isn't. Although ps plus does offer 1 hour trials, grid 2 was offered as part of the instant game collection. No time limits to worry about.
No
I do have PS+ and I did check the store for all grid offeres. I see Uncharted, Borderlands 2, etc, but no GRID 2 for free.
There is a testversion of GRID 2 for PS+ members, but that's limited to 1h like I said.

Apparently our stores do not offer the same, although we're both from europe. I can't get the free GRID 2 game, only the testversion.

How long have you been a plus subscriber? Grid was available on the instant game collection(igc) last month. It was only up for a month, but as long as you "purchase" an igc game when it is available for free, you can download it any time as long as you still have plus.

There are a bunch of igc games that I haven't even bothered downloading yet. They aren't part of the igc anymore, but they're still available free of charge on my download list. It's possible that your region didn't get it, but it's also possible that you missed it if you're a new subscriber.

December offer is still running. They'll change it this week though.

To be honest, I downloaded Resogun just because it presented in the menu of the good ole' Geometry Wars... other words, it's like you said... found out that's far too awesome beyond words can describe.

I really should give Resogun a go as I've downloaded it but not yet really played it.
Heard it's supposed to be fun.

I finally got my hands on my PS4 on Xmas day. (Had it bought for Xmas and my 21st birthday)

What a lovely machine, I'm really enjoying it at the moment, I love how everything is much smoother and quicker. Downloading all updates whilst playing games is an absolute joy. Controller is great, feels like a quality product and that pulsating blue and white light.

Only problem, I've had is that the controller's battery doesn't seem to last as long as the PS3's. I had it plugged in from the start and once it stopped charging I took it off charge. Lasted about 2 days.

Still, great console, looking forward to more games coming it's way.

That's about right - it does a lot more (such as the speaker) than the DS3 so I suppose it's only logical that the battery will not go as long as you have been used to.

Ah yes, keep forgetting about the speaker and track pad on it. Haven't used either of them, don't think COD and NFS support those features.

Oh I also love the light on the back, lights up my room when it's dark and when it changes colours!

Anyone played dc universe? Just picked up my ps4 yesterday forgot i had preordered and thort i had mised out till they rang yesterday. Duno why it took so long for them to ring

The trine demo uses the track pad. The speaker is pointless. You can't hear it over the game audio unless you play with it really low. I can't stand that light either. I'm lucky that where I sit I don't see it but at a friends the light reflects on his tv. That would drive me nuts. I would have to put black tape over it or something. There really should be an option to turn it off.

It's all personal taste really - I find the trackpad useful, when implemented. Same applies for the speaker; mind you, I'm used to having one in my controller, because I have a WiiU. It is really down to the game devs what they do with the extra functionality though - the speaker works well with Resogun - that's for certain.

As a suggestion, you could always sit at more of an angle when at your friend's house, that might help.

The speaker is a good idea I guess. I've heard it in Resogun but only after someone told me it worked with it and I turned my sound down to hear it.
I hoped it could be used for things like teammates voices in single player games, or the AI talking to you. Maybe the spotter in racing games. It's just not near loud enough though and so many people wear headsets I can't imagine devs using it for anything actually useful because of the amount of people who would never hear it.
I love the trackpad idea. I really wish they would let you use it to type.

The light though is terrible. If your only option is to cover it up or sit at an angle so it doesn't constantly shine on the tv then it's a bad idea. You should be able to turn it off.

I like all the ideas though. You can't improve things without trying something new. I just can't stand the light though. That just wasn't thought through and shows that they must test this stuff at computer desks where the controller is much lower than the tv.
I wonder what kind of setup most devs use to setup surround sound. Do they have high end systems in mind or stereo headsets. I know back in the ps2 days surround sound seemed better. Positioning seemed more precise and sounds were much easier to follow. Sounds now radiate more from the speakers than the rooms. It makes me wonder if their condo tearing more on so called surround headsets than real surround sound systems than they use to.

Still waiting for the chance to get my PS4, didn't have money when it first came out and didn't pre-order. Sont haven't confirmed there next shipment to Ireland yet either and some shops are stating it's out of stock until the start of March.

I'm surprised that I got it when I did. I was wholly expecting mine not to arrive till January due to the insane amount of pre-orders. Everywhere I checked, I was told that the December shipment was pre-sold-out.

I decided to pay off the rest of my pre-order while on break from work, and was pleasantly surprised when they brought it out from the stock room. I think I had a stupid grin plastered on my face for the rest of my shift.

Can't wait for Driveclub (March isn't it?) to be released, might be able to get it with my PS4 when it's in stock on shelves around July at this rate.
