as long as new games are sold for over $30 its unacceptable to buy buy any game new...i bought gt5 platinum, worth every single penny, new for 60, yeah right.
Simply restating your argument on a different thread doesn't make it any more valid - especially as you didn't bother answering or expanding upon your comments on that previous thread.

You seem to have a very black and white view of the gaming industry and what is happening. Nowhere near all developers are involved with DLC - be that content already on disc or otherwise. From my experience and in a couple of cases that tends to be down solely to the game publishers; EA is the favourite example.

As for offering less for more, Toronado and Zoology's answers explain that nicely.

I'm not sure what you're saying in the last bit I quoted above - not worth 60? Could you clarify please.

Aside from all that, Sony at CES had a GT5 4k demo again. Sony is pushing 4k hard. I think this may be a feature to look into as a possibility of the new Playstation.

Even if the PS4 doesn have 4K ability from the sart it can always be added in an update later. I highly doub we will see 4K gaming nex gen or even the gen after that but probably some 4k video content

How can it be added as an update? You would need the hardware. 4k video yes, 4k gaming no, except maybe small PSN games.

Welcome back to the 4k topic.

Thats why I get my games from online vendors brand new games are much cheaper.

Living in australia as well how can it be I went to big w and they had forza horizon brand new just released for 15 bucks cheaper than eb games?

EB is the worst for prices! I remember I went to get Modern Warfare 1 about 6 months after it came out, EB $120 JB Hi Fi $79. Both brand new. Basically everything in that store is overpriced

Just the option to select the resolution for the XMB. The hardware should be able to handle 4K resolutions. 4K is only 4x the pixels of 1080, and I expect he hardware to be a least 4x stronger then what we have now

It's really not that simple. Find some of my old posts on the matter.

if you do a bit of hunting you can pay alot less than most retailers.

Nextgen consoles will not be able to handle 4k resolutions for games; which I am sure has been said before now. They will be lucky to squeeze out 60fps at 1920x1080, let alone over twice that resolution.

As far as video; sure.... if you have a 1 TB drive lying around for storage (for each movie), a new optical storage format is released of that size, and you don't mind downloading a movie for several days straight.

Completely agree with you generally but on the last point it's expected that a 4k movie, whether download or on a disc will utilize the upcoming HEVC compression format, the successor to H.264 that most Blu-Ray discs currently use. As well as being able to handle up to 8k resolution and having generally better quality it is also purported to have double the compression efficiency of H.264 so it won't require bitrates much higher, if at all, than the current Blu-Ray limit of 40Mbps. Therefore the 100GB Blu-Ray discs will be sufficient.

The hardware we have now can't do 1080 anyway.

Even with HVEC its still 128-256 GB per movie depending on frame rate.

Compressed streaming would still require a 100 Mb/s constant downlink which is far beyond the average consumer's connection speed (granted 4k won't be for the average consumer).

Not to mention the player/upscale requirement... which there isn't besides Sony's preloaded drive(s).

Don't get me wrong I would love for 4k to come out with a vengeance... we're just not ready.

And here everyone goes fantasizing about 8k and I have yet to lay my eyes on 4k lol.

Well a few games can, Rayman Origins for example runs in native 1080p but still it really isn't as simple as "4x the pixels so hardware 4x as powerful will be enough".

Well that should end piracy

I don't believe that figure. Current BR movies without the extras are usually around 40GB, that's with a max bitrate of 40Mbps. Even if they were to double that for 4k you're still only at 80GB. Nobody can say for sure though yet because HVEC is not a finished spec so nobody can say for sure what bitrate 4k movies would need with that compression format. It could be 60Mbps, it could be 100Mbps+. We'll have to wait and see.

Anyway it wouldn't end piracy, the most popular pirate formats at the moment are x264 encodes of Blu-Rays at less than 25% of the full size. The same would happen in the future I'm sure.

Engadget had some info on the size of a 4k movie compared to a Blu-Ray. It wasn't twice the size. It was more around 1.5 times the size. You'll see in the near future the push that Sony will do. They have major influence also since they are huge in the motion picture scene with Sony Pictures. Don't forget that their TV's in the future will be able to upscale 1080P to 4K.

Yeah but not yet. All Sony Pictures can muster up for now is the purposefully confusing "Mastered in 4k" series of Blu-Rays that are still 1080p. It's entirely possible the PS4 could be the first piece of consumer hardware from Sony capable of playing true 4k discs though, using it as a driving force behind the tech just as the PS3 pushed original BR. The issue for them though is that even 18 months from now 4k TVs are going to be hella expensive and out of reach from mass market, not like 2006 when HDTVs were fairly affordable.

Really? The 360 got 1080p capability through an update. They added 3D to the PS3 through an update.

Apologies for not being clearer. Im speaking of video playback on the XMB. 4K gaming will be to PS5 what 1080 was to PS3 IMO.

Movies in 4k
Games in 1080p on PS4.

Damn, how the hell did I miss that?

I've gotta go back tomorrow to check that out.

Gives me a headache just trying to figure out what's going on there. 360 degree view of GT5. I assume it's not 4K however? Not really knowledgeable on the tech and if they could do that with it? Can you imagine owning a room size version and having to use real mirrors to see what's going on to the sides and behind? Talk about head tracking.:dopey:

I cannot WAIT for a feature film that is shot in portrait mode! It will show the world how idiotic some mobile "users" can be. Some people need to be forbidden from using technology!!!!! Then again, maybe their eyes are on their forehead and chin.

I keep telling my kids to be "owners" and not "users" of things. "Users" are clueless, "owners" typically have a thorough knowledge of how ad why to properly use their stuff, and how to take care of it.

YouTube is full of videos shot by techno-dregs!

Now, if SONY is going to hike up the price on the PS4 to force feed us 4k, the system will be a dud for a long time.

Yes but my point was the hardware has to be there to enable it, so if the PS4 does have hardware capable of 4k video why wouldn't it already be enabled at the start?

Also I thought you were talking about games, that's why I said it's not that easy. I agree it's likely to be able to do 4k video.

Is it possible that GT6 could be run in 4K on one tv using multiple PS3's? Could it be a feature like triple screen capability on GT5? Just wondering put of curiosity because of all this 4K talk.

Technically I'd say yes if they wanted to but I don't really see it being pushed as a feature. Even if someone can afford multiple PS4s the actual 4k sets are going to be out of reach to consumers for a fair few years yet.

Without getting too technical about it, yes. You'd need a TV that supported it and it would need to be programmed into the game.
