So will this years's yearly games be released still on the PS3 and 360?(Fifa 14,new COD,etc)

Well I can only speculate, but I believe they will be. It's possible that they'll also get a next gen release, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was the exact same game with a little extra graphical polish. I really hope there is at least one essential launch title, but I'm not holding my breath. I'll still buy the console on day one, but only because it may be my only chance to experience a console launch in Tokyo. I'm not expecting any proper "must have games" until at least six months into the system's lifespan. Unless Sony have a really cool first party title.

As I was reading, I got more and more excited as the rumors were verified, until we got to the incompatibility of PS3 games in the PS4. $400-$500 isn't that expensive, but that fact (rumor) is really killing it for me.

Guessing that will be the case aswell, but there will definitely be big exclusives a few month from launch.

Oh and since we are in a bidding war  the PS3 released at 1500$ which cost 8000 Egyptian pounds back then.

Considering that not including BC would mean that there would be a large shortage of games during the initial few months after launch that the PS4 could play, I doubt they would leave it out. However, if it is left out, I could absolutely understand their reasoning behind it. It would simply be because PS3 games would be incompatible with the architecture of the PS4, which is ditching cell IIRC. But considering the price drops of the PS3 on the used and new market, and with the launch of a new console imminent, I could certainly see that buying a PS3 wouldn't be the large investment it was.

Yet you expect Ridge Racer to be drastically different than any of it's previous releases? :odd:

Ridge Racer is the only game ill demand to be exact as it is since 1995. Obvious exception is Ridge Racer Unbounded which is desecration if this beautiful brand. Ridge Racer has it's magic man, it's a specific even sick arcade racer. Simple, fun, without 0,00000000001% of anything that is simulation related :) And it's target it for those fans who love it. 👍

Why, is it a good news? You can keep your ps3 and buy new system for less money than you have to pay for backward compatibility capable game console. Among many speculations this news is great for me. I want to keep it that way.

What should really killing you is inability to play used second hand games, or if then forcing you to pay some sort of unlock key to play second hand used games. This is what really freaking me out. 👎 :irked: 🤬

I'm just having trouble waiting for the 20th honestly, I always get caught up in the anticipation.

12 days <3

$400-$500 isn't that bad for a new console, seeing as some people spend that much on computers/phones/televisions. I hope those rumors about the PS4 not having backwards compatibility with PS3 games are just rumors as it will be a bad move by Sony if they don't support PS3 games on the latest console.

I wonder how they are going to re-design the PSN for the new console, hopefully it'll allow us to carry over all of our games/dlc that we purchased on the store.

According to a dev of Project CARS who clearly knows more than I do on the matter there is no way the rumoured Jaguar CPU will be able to emulate the CELL.

here isn't an 8-core x86 part at the rumoured 1.6ghz on the planet that could emulate Cell running at it's peak rate.

At the PS3 clock rate of 3.2 GHz, each of the seven SPU's gives a theoretical 25.6 GFLOPS , or around 180GFLOPS in total. (~155 with the six available to developers, assuming Sony isn't being too hardcore with the system reserved SPU)

Now look at the specs for one of the fastest, power hungry desktop CPUs on the market:

http://download.intel.com/support/processors/corei7/sb/core_i7-3900_d.pdf

153.6 GFLOPS at 3.2ghz.... with a TDP of 130W.

Besides these basic numbers, there are vast complications to trying emulate CELL - it's bus and DMA engine and linkage to the RSX would almost impossible to emulate with the accurate/real-time timing that existing titles have used. Much better to use the hundreds of million spent on Gakkai and some 'cloud farms' of PS3s -perhaps 1 per 500 or less users, adding only a dollar or two to the PS4 unit cost.

That means there are only two ways you'll be able to play PS3 on PS4, either they include the CELL as they did the PS2 EE on early PS3 models or use the cloud.

European version is more expensive by default, different license cost for PAL and probably taxes and just a different distribution model that costs more. Wonder if Europe will get PS4 this year or we will wait 3 months after US/JPN.

Isn't the CELL usually measured with single precision calculations? That's what it excels at (and beats out your usual CPU), but when it comes to double precision calculations (which is standard when measuring contemporary CPUs, it seems), it would seem that the CELL falls off drastically.

Some sources I've found claim that the single precision performance of the CELL is ten times as high as its double precison performance - which is absolutely uncommon for your usual CPU.

I'm not going to question one of Project CARS's devs. Just saying that the astronomical performance figures of the CELL aren't really comparable to what an x86 processor does, as their performances are measured under different circumstances (form what I've found so far, that is). So, yeah, I'D say that it's not actually the CELL's outright performance that's the problem. It seems to be more along the lines of emulating that... peculiar architecture.

According to an article in a japanese newspaper, the next PS will have a touchpad, a share button to connect to various social networks, will carry a hefty price tag in excess of 40.000 yen, and will be launched before the end of the year.
Why people have to put social media to everything!?

Some people. Want backward compatibility for all cost despite fact they already had ps3, so why another one.

Cause it's inconvenient to havr your old consoles stacked up in your living room (which should look ncie and clean and all that), hassling cables and whatnot? Not like the two HDMI slots you get on your usual TV aren't taken up already or anything.

Plus, you could at least sell off your old console and put the funds towards the new one.

Maybe they don't want to have multiple consoles taking up outlets and connections. Maybe they plan on selling their PS3 to take advantage of the numerous trade in sales that pop up every time new hardware comes out. Maybe they don't want to split their PSN account around two systems. Maybe they would like to play their old games on the new hardware without paying Sony for the pleasure (see: PS2 Classics). Or maybe they aren't even sure if they want a PS4 or a NextBox yet, and having access to the games of their PS3 would just be a thing to push them over the edge (just like it was for early PS2 adopters, and early PS3 adopters, and early Wii adopters, and early adopters of every system that has BC on it before new games start hitting that actually sell the system). Maybe they even want to keep buying PS3 games as they keep being released.

Is that "simple" enough for you, or should we go phonetically?

I would buy it. I don't think it's a good idea to implement but really it doesn't affect me. I buy all my games new and don't share games. If I don't want to buy a game at full price I have no problem waiting until the price drops.

Poll, or sort of:

How many of you will buy PS4 if it's no longer possible using 2nd market games?

Oh those games would have to be like half price of current games for ps3, then yes. If price is not like that then Ill seriously consider selling mine ps3's and build my self gaming PC

The problem with new games is a disk become "used" as long as you open it. The advantage of 2nd market is if the conditions are "perfect" or "good" you can keep buy and keep selling them over and over again. Recently I purchased Grid for 11 euro shipping included from UK, I can probably sell it for a similar price in a couple of months which is cool.

I can eventually understand a 5 or 10 euro "online pass", I do not like it (in fact I'm buying only non online pass games) but I understand it could make sense for the publisher.

What I will not accept is the "only new games will work".
Aside frome the obvious "will force people to spend more money", another problem is you cannot longer loan stuff to friends. I gave my GT5 copy to my cousin and he bought Spa DLC and other stuff.

I would buy PS4 even if you couldn't buy second hand games.

You don't need to be a developer to know this. Software emulation of PS3 will be highly unlikely in any future Playstation platform until there is some crazy fast technology fast enough to emulate it comes out. Hardware wise it will be possible if they go back to using PowerPC CPUs or including a Cell processor. Developers will most likely do re-releases / remakes though which shouldn't be hard to do and means more money for them.

I think personally there strategy will be launching a very cheap PS3 and also making use of Gaikai technology I doubt we will ever see a PS4 with Cell processor included. I think they will be aiming for a console probably similar / slightly bigger than the first PS3 slim at the moment. I wonder if they will attempt also a higher price subscription model for potentially a PS4 cloud gaming service too.
