Crazy ideas:
Line out. Connect controller to a stereo and have sound streaming.
Line in- connect phone to use it as a portable speaker.
Speakergrill? In that case, there is a possibility you can use the controllers without PS being on. With touch it may be used with tv's or phones.
Mic in: Use it as a microphone in singstar. Or as Nintendo DS, interactive..blow things down.

Or final one: The top grill is a venthole and bottom hole is airintake to cool it down ;)

THey must show the PS4 20th, E3 will be all about the games and no hardware. So 20th = hardware, E3-all focus on software so the hardware doesnt steal all the attention.

If they decided to turn the tables upside down on the next gen and release the PS4 immediately after the 20th, it would still sell well (in the US). Tax refunds have started rolling out. I think my wife is about to pull the trigger and get me a white PS3 instead of getting Fat Boy fixed. I'd have an extra 500gb HDD :)

Wow! :D I'm hoping that's true because I think that's a great haha, be waiting for Feb 20th to arrieve. :)👍

It would be good but if you wanted to get rid of your ps3 and have your games on your new ps4 you would have to pay again.

I might just keep my ps3 and leave the ps4 to run only ps4 games.

I don't mind, I don't buy much games anyway. ;) I may even hopefully buy GRID 2 and pCARS through PS4's stream (if its true first of course). :D

See I have 50+ games on my ps3 so that would be a big expense to stream them.

But games I dont own on ps3 I would probably stream.

WSJ are known for having very reliable information. The fact it's not tagged with rumour seems to suggest this is happening.

Streaming is probably the only way PS4 could include any sort of BC for PS3 games and maybe PS2 as well. I've seen the same people suggesting that it should launch for $400-$500 also suggesting the PS4 should include the cell architecture

If it's true I'd be interested to see the quality. Most PS3 games are 720p anyway but some are higher resolution and also the compression needs to be good. I'm still skeptical that streaming games can look as good as an original version.

Thats a good point would they substitute quality to allow the games to be steamed easier?

Well I read that so far in any tests/running Gaikai has been limited to 720p, obviously it's been a while since Sony acquired them so things may have improved. I've personally not seen any details about compression levels but I remember reading about OnLive and the video quality was said to be about the same as watching a 720p video on Youtube, not amazing.

I imagine the quality varies dynamically, like Netflix (on my connection it turns into a mosaic whenever someone starts downloading something), but the resolution will be mostly 720p. I'd be surprised if Sony decided to bother allowing 1080p for the handful of games that actually use it.

It's a smart move, though, it allows Sony to keep the cost of the hardware down yet simultaneously potentially offering the PS3's entire library for you to buy again.

On that note I think people would be annoyed if there wasn't a system to enable you to stream any game you already own at no extra cost. I can't see many people taking them up on PS3 streaming if they have to buy everything again.

In not sure how steaming works really. It's sounds as if you have to be online to play, am I right? If that's the case then surely you can't be expected to pay to own a game that your not fully in control of, maintenance to servers etc.

Maybe rentals?

It's basically YouTube but instead of videos you're playing a game, it's your controller and Internet access point but their computer is playing the game. There was a service called OnLive, it sold games and provided rentals but it still charged full price if you wanted to 'keep' the game.

The advantage is there's nothing to download so you can play immediately, the downside is the quality and latency.

But yeah, maybe it'll be a Netflix sort of thing, you pay a monthly fee and play whatever you want. Works for them, but seeing as it's console games we're talking about then it'll definitely be more expensive than that.

Probably not, but I can imagine a lot of people buying at least one game just because it's something they can do. Some will get hooked, others will want to sell their PS3s, other people just want one console... This sort of thing is worth money to some people. I'll be keeping my PS3 but when it dies I'd probably re-buy the two or three games I actually played as that's cheaper than replacing an out of warranty PS3.

Is anybody subscribed to WSJ? In the original artical, it mentions something about streaming games from optical discs. This is confusing. If it's what I think it is, it may mean you can stream PS3 games by having the optical disc inserted??
