Other than the Senna events and GTAcademy, I can count the number of times I've played GT6 in 2014 on one hand. Does that mean I shouldn't be able to post in this section either?

I like the series - I don't like where it's been heading the past two games.

<snip>.

I was responding to these words which I took to be hypocritical or at least ironic.
Why do you seem to care more about this place than the game itself?

Of course you should post in this section. I was taking the author to task since he said he doesn't play the game, yet posts dozens of times per day and was taking another to task for caring more about the forums than the game. My comment was in no way intended to deny a right to post.

PD is going to continue modelling cars says Captain Obvious, so if I was PD I would create a website with a giant poll and allow anyone and everyone to log in and vote once for their favourite 10/20/30 standard cars, whatever the number may be, have a limited time vote, and then model the winners [if available] as premiums and be done with it.
Wow... you must think that Premium car list is downright encyclopedic. :P

Earth had a much more reasonable proposition, as he found the essential car makes in the Standard list, which are something like 150 models or so. A number of sub-makes could be derived from them to give us a wide variety of cars that many of us might own, without having the silly single entries like a Midnight Purple Skyline. Plus, if we get Race Mod and that Livery Editor, which we will at some point most likely, having a smaller car list is going to be a hindrance and require workarounds, while a larger list will provide many more options and more creativity, especially in formulating user created leagues with unique standards - did I say standards? ;)

Giving us only thirty cars at most to bring into PS4-land is only going to result in huge fights and resentment.

Hopefully this was more logical, and not too emotional for you...

Except... um... those two things aren't diametrically opposed. They aren't even related in regards to what Simon said. Read the entire conversation.

I don't even own GT6 anymore. Sold it back in March, I think. Maybe earlier. Every little bit helped to buy a new car. I've played it maybe two times since then on a friend's PS3.
That doesn't mean that, since I no longer own the game, my posts in this forum are therefore posts about this forum rather than posts about the game or posts about the series. That doesn't mean that someone who does still own the game is precluded from making his posts more about the people on this forum rather than the actual viewpoints expressed (which was Simon's entire point). Because the two things have nothing to do with each other.

I didn't read Earths post but 150 Standards into premium is the opposite of reasonable if that's what you're proposing. How many unique new cars did we get for GT6 at launch, somewhere around 100 wasn't it? The represents 3 years worth of modeling, on top of the DLC cars we got from GT5. Do you seriously think they are going to sacrifice an entire games new release content x 150% to convert standards to premiums? Are you out of your mind? Launch a brand new game on PS4 without a single car new to the series?

Contracting out isn't an option, at least nothing they've considered for 15 years so that's off the table. 10-30 gives you the most iconic standards and still allows for 70-90 cars new to the series, which is a reasonable mix IMO. Personally, I think you should consider yourself lucky if you get 10 because I don't think you'll even get that many.

As far as the premium car list being encyclopedic or not, you should talk to the guy who put it together, your beloved Kaz. Are you saying he has modeled 400 cars as premiums, perhaps 500 with the launch of GT7 and it's not a good cross-section of automotive history? It's not like he didn't know PS4 was coming for the last 6 or 7 years so he's had plenty of time to put together a premium car list worthy of being called an encyclopedia. If you've got an issue with it, I suggest you post a thread in the Kaz Forum and try to discuss it with him.

The point I was making was that he was down on another member for doing exactly what he himself had been doing. That was the irony. My point had nothing to do with the goodness or otherwise of the behavior of continuing to post about GT6 while not being involved in GT6.

No, you still haven't understood. I wasn't down on Tenacious D for posting here and not playing the game (which is what I'm doing), I was "down" on him for seemingly caring more about what happens here than how good the game is and how well it sells.

Maybe this will drive the Standard haters into Drive Club, Project CARS and other games, which should bring a semblance of peace and reason to this nutty place.

What I took from the above is that he wouldn't care if millions of people didn't buy GT7 because it had standard cars but he'd be happy because that might mean those people don't come here, and he'd have his peace. That is why I said he seems to care about this forum more than the game. He seemingly wouldn't care if millions more people stopped playing the game, as long as there is peace on this forum he's all good.

It's not the same at all as me not playing the game but still visiting here. I still care more about the game series than what happens here.

I'd be incredibly surprised if PD didn't already keep track of Standard usage through GT6's online play (or even the offline career stats).
Hopefully they do, and they can filter out any skewing from events where cars are required or preferred performance wise. I think there's a lot of bang for the buck though in a fan vote. Yeah, you might end up with some wonky results (Kubelwagen anyone?) but you'll also be able to say, "This is what the fans wanted". Perhaps they could narrow it down to a top 100 or something from their own data.

Well, he is picking and choosing, and not playing favorites with certain periods of history, like all the developers do. I consider Forza 5's list to be half disposable too. Kind of like our respective reactions to the list for P CARS, which you love 'em all, and I'm half meh over. And because they won't let anyone new into their boards, I'm not up on prospective cars for future DLC. Or their pricing on that, so who knows.

Plus, there's the matter that many car fiends consider the '90s and '00s to be the golden age of both sports cars and racing machines, with some seepage from both sides of that time band, and I'm of this opinion too. Which also happens to be the timeframe of a goodly number of Standards. I know that some of the new cars from this decade are stalwart, such as the new Vette and BMWs. But not only is the list of real standouts not all that big, we have a few of them already. Since I mentioned DLC already, it would be a reasonable way to get our beloved Standards in Premium shape over time, as they can crank out 40 or so Premium cars a year. And if they beef up the modeling team, even more.

But this is another area in which Kaz is gonna do what he gonna do, so I guess we'll see. By the way, Kaz would have to love my question because this late in the game, it would be lucky to get 10 votes, the way things are going over there. A smidgin of logic over emotion, hopefully. ;)

PD must do new models for the standard cars. But they dont need to do any interior, they can remain blacked out.
This would be excellent option and realistically possible.

As long as they don´t look like this:

And more like this:

I´m quite happy with the upgraded standards in GT6. And since most of my favourite cars are standards and I don´t want them gone, I voted YES!

But for GT7 they should ALL be upgraded to at least the level of that Calibra up there.

Majority are not always right. And still if it doesnt hurt them and 20% are even more happy then why not have them? Does it bother you so much that people can love driving standards? PD cant bring all to premiums is what Kaz says. But because of that he doesnt want those who have favorites there to miss their cars. Wise choice!

80% of 700 people. Also, remove the standards will not increase the amount of premiums.
You do know how polling works right? http://www.ropercenter.uconn.edu/education/polling_fundamentals.html

The weakness in an GTP poll is not the sample size. 700 is more than enough to sample a large population and be accurate within a few % points. The weakness of GTP polls is that they aren't random samples and the questions often leave a lot to be desired.

And removing standards will increase the number of premiums. PD will undoubtedly touch up many standards for GT7 like they did with the Rufs. This requires time and money. How many "touch ups" can one modeler do in a day? A week? Well it can't be really easy, otherwise they'd have whacked out a bunch of them already. Take a week just for arguments sake. That means for every 26 touch ups you lose one new from the ground up premium. Upgrade the whole catalog...lot of duplicates so let's say it's 300 unique cars to upgrade. That's trading off at least 11 brand new premiums. Not the end of the world, but nothing to sneeze at either.

Well not just peace on the forum, but also peace of mind in knowing that people aren't harming the precious sanctity of what I can only conclude from the years on here as his favorite franchise by far. He'd much rather see us disappear and stop saying what critiques we have to say about the game. Because to him GT can do no wrong, and the stuff he has seemed to post that could be construed as "criticism" seems to only be done to save face when these moments arise.

No they just tend to get more pull in nearly all things concerning the world. Also if you expand that to a sells figure, the wise man wont side with someones emotional attachments but rather the group that if they appease to will help them sale far more than the minority.

PD can't bring all cars to premium yet, that's true a method of some sort would need to be used (and there are methods) but they can hack away the fat (duplicate and made up cars) to trim up the game. This can also help in other areas because now the work load of making touched up ported cars is less than if they stick with the current load.

Don't you find it ironic that when TenD's guard is down, and he's just posting and not in "defend GT and Kaz against all reason" mode, he contributes stuff like this which is basically asking for GT7 to be nothing like all previous versions of the series, and pretty much a near duplicate of PCars but with GT's car selection.

And removing standards will increase the number of premiums.
I don't think it will because they will do the same as for GT6 : Adding a lot of new cars and only update a few of them (I am honestly not expecting more than 15 fully upgraded standards and 150-200 "semi-premium" (which take way less time to make)

You know what would take even less time...getting rid of duplicate cars like those that are Standard and Premium (Veyron, C5 Z06). Or duplicates in general that we all know of and don't need to mention. Then you have a more reasonable grouping to work with and control.

You're totally right on this point, every duplicated must be deleted.

Well I wouldn't say everyone I mean if it has an important historical or trim stance I wouldn't mind seeing it stay, but there aren't very many of those. I mean when I talk about keeping a "duplicate" the only thing that comes to mind on the spot is the MKIV Supra with having both the N/A and Turbo. However, even that really doesn't matter because 9 times out of 10* people are going to drive the turbo.

*made up stat don't take seriously

EDIT: But yeah for the most part they need to go they are of the same power rate and other aspects and sometimes the only distinguishing factor that makes them special is a Color or region it was sold in...basically who cares. With the ability of tuning and the mass amount of colors the game provides this can be done on our own
